Ahh no wonder I couldn't mimic that. I guess I tried with a dozen or so crap boards. All I could get is extreme melt down. lol

Also make sure you have a DVD burner! I have a few clients that believe they can burn DVD's with a regular CD-Burner. lol

"The quick and dirty way to solve your problem is to browse through the hidden folders on your iPod after mounting it as a hard drive on your system. However, browsing through the folders on the hard drive increases the potential for corrupting the iPod database, which may result in losing all your songs from the iPod before you transfer them to your PC. Use this method at your own risk." Sounds a bit risky to me. I suggest paying $14.99 for a small software app called "iPod Access" You can try it for free from this site -- http://www.jakeludington.com/downloads/200...or_windows.html

I know you said that you don't want a lot of useless codecs but I have found that this codec pack is one of the best if not the best one out there. It is called "ACE Mega CodecS Pack 6.03 - Professional Edition" I have used this since it came out and know that it is not full of crap ware (spyware/malware/trojans/virus' etc...) And during install it gives you the choice of what you want installed. Here is the link to it but be aware it is 49.2MB large -- http://www.free-codecs.com/download/ACE_Mega_CoDecS_Pack.htm

For the price of a House with a Car and Truck you can own a computer that makes you look like a total wiener and a total waste of space.

Thats what I thought also. I just thought that maybe someone else might have ran into this problem before. It was a first for me and I have been doing computer repair for over 8 years now. It just tripped me out that it would read a burnt disk and not a commerical disk.
-
This was suggested to me by a close friend so we tried it a few days ago but it didn't work with his burner although it did fix a problem with another clients cd rom. Great little package it is.

Well I have now talked him into a new computer cause he wants to make DVD's of his family and send them out to his grandchildren. so I am in the process of building what he wants. Thanks guys for all the help.

Well what gets me is this same cd drive used to play the same disk that I have tried. The Windows 98 disk that came with the computer used to play in this drive and now it dont even see that the disk is in the drive. I can put a disk that I have burnt in the drive and there is no problem. So I am inclined to believe that it is something other then some disk copy protection. I think I have talked him into buying a new cd burner or even a whole new computer. (I think that if a computer is still running Windows 98 it is well time to upgrade to the now times instead of living in the past times)

Somewhere around 90 -100 different disk. lol Like I said I have never run into this problem before. It will not even read the original Windows 98SE disk that came with the computer. We could not even get it to read a regular music disk.

Hello all I have a client that has a problem with his CD/RW drive. He is running Windows 98SE and this drive will not read a store bought disk but it will read any disk that has been burnt. So I am puzzled at this one. I have had drives not read a burnt disk before but never a drive that wont read a store bought disk. Is it just that the CD ROM is dying?
-
@Jeremy What type case is that? I have been looking for something like that one.

I use Fine Thread Hex Head Screws for most of my motherboards as long as its ok with my customers. Other wise I use what they request.

Those are really interesting as I had a client bring in her computer that wouldn't work so I could fix it well the AMD Athlon was completely melted as well as part of the Heatsink. I need to show her those so she will learn why you don't unplug the "Noisy Fan"

ERR | Could not read CD/DVD w/ several PC's
phatcat42141 replied to AltTeo's topic in The General Stuff
I also had this problem even after I downloaded all the latest drivers and so after screwing around on about 30 different computers I noticed that the drives that would read it ok was set to cable select and the ones that could not read all the time were set to either master or slave. So I set all the drives to cable select and have not had a problem since then. Hope this helps. -
Geez you might need to ducktape it also and use a coat hanger to get it to stay in place. Really though that is one huge heatsink. I believe I might be getting something like that one on my next custom build.
-
Geez it sounds like you have one of my clients. lol I have at least a dozen clients that refuse to update no matter what I even told them that I would upgrade thier computer to Windows 98SE for free and they still turned it down.

SpyAXE is a very nasty piece of malware. It can hurt your computer if you don't remove it. I have tried the removal instructions on bleepingcomputer.com quite a few times (I own a computer repair business) and have never once had a problem. You really need to get rid of it.

Have you tried the FIXMBR in the recovery console? It sounds like its your Master Boot Record that is messed up.

Too many popups?? In Shareaza? Umm where did you get your shareaza at? Or do you mean the chat popups? I am confused on the popups as shareaza is a spyware/ad-ware/malware/trojan/virus/etc... free software.
