  1. I will do an update of the firt post today or tomorrow, but I will be away for a few weeks. So keep posting them up and I'll include them to the list when I get back.
  2. Just for the record, you don't have to include it in a CAB file. Any file in your WIN98 folder will be used instead of those in your CAB files. This is a simple way of slipstreaming files where a direct replacement of a file is all that is needed (it doesn't work for adding additional files to your Windows installation)
  3. Yep, if you cancel scandisk you'll be fine. Alternatively, copy your windows cd to your hard disk add the patched ESDI_506.PDR into the WIN98 folder burn the files back to a cd and it will slipstream in the new patched version of ESDI_506.PDR
  4. Agree. Gapes Service pack in comparison is lean and mean. USB support would just give it a crucial feature that I'd assume most users would appreciate.
  5. Thanks xrayer . Could you write a quick step to step of how to install and use this Expanded Memory Manager This will come in handy more and more in the future, no doubt.
  6. Wait a sec, do you have LLXX's 2226 patch installed? If so you would most likely be ok, but if its the standard Microsoft 2226 update, you will get data corruption.
  7. mate Gapes service pach has the 2225 fix in it http://www.msfn.org/board/98-SE-SP-30-BETA-1-t61749.html yes you should be using 2225 Don't even use the 2nd partition before adding the patch. You will get data corruption!!!
  8. I don't want everything added, but I really do think USB support would go along way towards making 98SESP the ultimate update and provides a feature most people would add anyway. It also makes it a simple option for Win98SE noobs. One patch that basically does the lot. I wouldn't recommend adding too many other updates. But this one I think is highly beneficial. Even make it option on installation of the Service Pack. I would love to hear what other think.
  9. your challenge is to make one better than TheGunn http://www.movsd.com/thegun.htm
  10. I think including a USB driver like NUSB 3.3 would make your Service Pack complete. - Official and Unofficial Win98SE updates / fixes - Native USB Storage Device Support - Copy files larger than 2GB - Use Hard Disks Bigger than 137GB It would be the ultimate and only patch 90% of Win98 users would need. I'm all for you including NUSB
  11. Oh..... Don't you think it would be a good idea? Giving Win98SE native USB support would very much appreciated by most users I would imagine.
  12. Any idea GAPE why your service pack didn't automatically find my USB drives but manually installing NSUB 3.3 after your patch did? I thought you included NUSB 3.3 into your Service Pack?
  13. Does 98 SE SP 3.0 BETA 1 support USB thumbdrives still? I did a fresh install of Win98SE, then installed this Service Pack, then plugged in my USB Thumbdrive and I couldn't get it to find a driver. I asked the driver installer to check C:\windows\system and c:\windows\inf with no luck. Any help would be appreciated. EDIT: I installed NUSB 3.3 and the drives were detected and drivers installed immediately. So why doesn't SP3b1 detect them?
  14. yep, it should work. Just as soon as you install Win98SE install LLXX's 2225 patch or Gapes Unofficial Service Pack 3 beta 1 Personally I'd divide it into at least 2 partitions, each no partition bigger than 120GB (you still need the patches though)
  15. This is very similar to Microsoft's Zune Theme. http://www.downloadsquad.com/2006/11/03/wi...-xp-zune-theme/ Download Zune Theme from here... http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=75078 an enhanced version of Royal Noir can be found here..... http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/44294818/
  16. I'm not sure if the latest DriectX updates actually improve anything on Windows 98 Either way, you must have the December 2006 DirectX 9.0c or earlier installed first, then you can update it with the latest DirectX 9.0c releases. Releases later Dec2006 will fail to clean install on Win98 as they have been stripped of Win9x components. Newer releases can only be used to update existing installs. Either way just go here: http://www.mdgx.com/dx.htm
  17. Keeping it under 120GB keeps many utilities like Scandisk happy. As mentioned above, You must install Windows on a Hard Disk below the 137GB physical limit. For example, You have a single 240GB Hard Disk divided in 5 partitions. C: 50GB = Physical 0 - 50GB D: 30GB = Physical 50GB - 80GB E: 50GB = Physical 80GB - 130GB F: 60GB = Physical 120GB - 180GB G: 60GB = Physical 180GB - 240GB You could safely install Windows 98 / 98Se / Me on Drive C: D: & E: You probably could install it on F: but if any data went beyond the 137GB limit problems would arise. You'd probably be safe though if you installed Windows and then applied the patch straight away. You would get errors if you installed it on drive G: as it is located beyond the 137GB limit.
  18. In general on Win98 you want to keep your partitions at or under 120GB I personally use a Windows Me bootdisk to do my formatting and partitioning as it supports larger drives.
  19. I've got XP running quite nicely on my Pentium 2 333Mhz so I'm sure you can get it going pretty fast on your machine. Some good tips are here: http://www.tweakhound.com/xp/xptweaks/supertweaks1.htm The easiest performance boost is a function built into XP to do most of the hard work for you. Control Panel - Systems - click the Advanced tab > under Performance click the Settings button > and select Configure for Best Performance
  20. We have been compiling a list of certain programs that we know work with Windows 98 Second Edition. http://www.msfn.org/board/Versions-Softwar...SE-t105936.html Fireworks MX 2004 should work, but newer versions may not.
  21. I am a little rusty but I think this is it. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong. From memory windows starts to install, but on its first restart it crashes right? So let it start to install as normal, then when it gives you the error about not enough memory to initialise... You have to use a boot disk to get to a command prompt. Put in a boot disk, press Ctrl-alt-delete to restart the computer Then type EDIT The press "Alt F" to open the file menu. Scroll down and select OPEN Browse your file system and find system.ini in your WINDOWS folder. Add the line: MaxPhysPage=30000 save Close press ctrl-alt-delete to reboot again Windows should continue its setup process.
  22. Your system should run fine on 98 and XP. You just have to tweak XP a touch. Turn off the fancy graphics and effects etc, make it look more like 98. You can get 98 drivers that support your graphics card Have you considered dual booting? That's what I do. That way you can use both OS. You just pick the one you want to enter when you boot up your pc.
  23. I have updated two computers so far with 3.0 Beta 1 without any trouble, and so far the systems have been rock solid. Two thumbs up!
