Put it this way: although Core2Duo and Core2Quad are multi-core processors they still are 1 single physical processor (2 logical processors, respectively 4 logical processors). The term "2 cpu's" in EULA means 2 physical processors. Hope I made it clear enough.

What happens if you do a clean install of w2k and restart a few times with no other software installed?

Nero installer acts like Vista, it installs features based on the key you enter in the first part of the setup. I'd say to uninstall Nero and reinstall using typical options.

It would be about d/-\mn time.... All we got so far are promises.

My reccomendation is to set the BIOS to default values, restart, enter BIOS again and set the correct parameters manually.

Set the SATA Native Support <enable> to SATA Native Support <disable>

Install ffdshow and see if the issue remains...

AFAIK you can only install dancers onto Windows XP Media Centre Edition. There is a thread here on msfn though about installing media centre components on top of xp professional. Just search the forums...

I'd recommend you R-Studio but it's not free. Still, it's a great piece of software (just ask Digerati Prime). I use it quite often and it has never let me down as I managed to recover a couple of files after 2 formats.

I don't encounter them on my pc's at home at all (unless I trigger them on purpose)... At work it's different, but thanks to cluberti's directions and WinDBG I manage to find the culprit and get rid of them.

I don't see TraxData in your list. I must have burned over 500 discs over last few months, only 2 or 3 flopped (IIRC )

The problem is explorer.exe. Run a process monitor utility to see what causes explorer.exe to lock down.
