  1. You can boot from the vista dvd and have it repair the boot errors, although that could result in data loss. -gosh
  2. right click on sr.inf and select install -gosh

    File types

I dont understand what you are talking about. Log in as administrator and try changing the file type -gosh
  4. It's probably the display driver as safe mode in xp still loads your 3rd party display driver. If youre getting file corruption issues it's probably a hardware issue or some program such as antivirus is corrupting files. -gosh
  5. Does it happen in safe mode? Make sure disk caching is enabled on the drive
  6. http://arstechnica.com/news.ars/post/20080...even-years.html I've known Dolan since 98, back when he was 14. It's so tragic, nothing is worth 7 years in prison. This morning he IM'ed me saying bye, it's sad. He originally got me aim sn gosh back in 1998.

  8. Make sure youre not building it on fat32 because fat32 has a file size limit of 2 or 4 gigs. Second, when you build the iso make sure you are creating it as an UDF ISO. If you create an iso greater than 4 gigs without specifying UDF itll be corrupt. -gosh
  9. Try the basics: Does it happen in safe mode? Does it happen in a full clean boot using msconfig to disable the startup items? It also sounds like you might have an autorun.inf on your C root. -gosh
  10. meh11 is right, just change the driver letters in the registry. Windows XP adds the drive letters as they are enumerated. During the beta of XP this was seen as a zip disk being assigned drive C or D. This was never fixed, probably because it would require so many changes it would be better to fix it in windows vista. -gosh
  11. There is a flag on your hard drive. When you shutdown properly the flag is reset. If you dont shutdown properly it isnt reset and autochk.exe runs on startup. If you keep seeing autochk run, just simply delete it from the registry. Simply delete autochk.exe from bootexecute http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechn...7.mspx?mfr=true -gosh
  12. Actress Jessica Alba has given birth to a baby girl three weeks after marrying long-term boyfriend Cash Warren, her publicist confirmed on Monday. Honor Marie Warren was born on Saturday in Los Angeles /what a name -gosh
  13. Just use any hex editor to remove the _x like he said. -gosh
  14. So if you run the script manually does it work fine? If it does, see what user account youre running the script under. Otherwise, use filemon or regmon to see what it's hanging on. Check event viewer. -gosh
  15. I seem to have misplaced my product key, does anyone have a program that can read the server08 product key? -gosh

  17. You need to manually remove printing. To do this, delete HKLM\System\CCS\Control\Print. Also, in the printers and faxes window, right click and go to server properties, and remove the printer drivers here. Stop the print spooler service before you do this. -gosh
  18. You can use netsh to get the GUID, then in the registry change the name under the GUID. Network connections are stored under HKLM\System\CCS\Network -gosh
  19. I would first check the settings for the NIC - including the DNS and default gateway. Netdiag, dcdiag. There should be a userenv log file. There are MS articles on troubleshooting DC issues. -gosh
  20. Server 2008 x64 should see all 4 gigs fine. I run server2008 x64 at home with 4 gigs of ram and it shows all 4 gigs without any problems. I've never used any switches such as /pae to get it to work. What does it report for the ram? Remember some onboard components might use ram, which may cause windows to see less. -gosh
  21. for win2k/xp/2k3 the root permissons are controlled by a special file, it's an inf but i forget the file name. There's really no reason to change the default settings for the root, and doing so can have disasterous consequences, you really should leave the defaults alone. -gosh
  22. Just to confirm: i got it working over the weekend using the legacy nic, not the normal NIC in hyperV. I was able to setup a win2k forest without any probs. -gosh
  23. If it's a dynamic disk only the actual space used will be reported, even though the disk can grow to a much bigger size. -gosh
  24. The CD key has to match your XP CD. Take a screenshot of the screen you get when you enter the product key. Run xp setup within windows, and when you get prompted for the cd key, take a screenshot and post it, and i can verify what version you have. -gosh
