There are none, becoming a hacker is simply a matter of telling people you are a hacker, usage of the term is not regulated by any governing body and as such anyone can claim to be a hacker. I don't care what other people have on their computer if i did i could just break in their house, but thats not my objective. But what do you want to strip down more? When you set up NT4 you do have options what to install - just don't select anything you don't need (like ancient "wallpapers" or such). Don't select anything, and you'll have almost bare core NT4. "i want to do is only install the core system files meaning no IE, Direct X, Media Player etc..." none of it is ever installed, except for IE3 (which is harmless for as long as you install i.e. K-Meleon and set it as default browser, or you can remove it manually entirely). I suggest: Setup NT4 Install SP6a Install SRP1 (Q299444) done Then do patching manually (either install post-SRP1 patches one by one, or extract them and combine their newer file versions into one single "superpatch" - it'll save you doing it again and again if you plan on doing similar installation in the future) Thanks alot all you guys as i said before i'm not too familiar with NT4. I think i got it from here. One more thing, how do I install it on a 80 gig harddrive?

I'm aware that hackers are secretive, but guess what? those same hackers have learned their skill from someone, something or somebody. A person don't wake up and decides he or she are a pilot. They have to be taught how to fly a plane or they will crash. Same with hackers, they don't wake up and say i know how to read a source right off the bat after only seeing it once. So in other words in order for me to become a hacker i have to learned the fundamentals/basics etc..... I'm sure when i do become a hacker i'm not going to walk around with a sticky saying I'M A HACKER.

I was just reading a headline on my cell phone about the U.S. Cyber Challenge. Now these skills i wish to acquire is not for illegal benefit. I have also learn that hackers are very intelligent people. So i want to become a hacker. To my knowledge hacking is not illegal. I am still a amature to the computer world but i have learned over the past years. Where do i began.

Sorry I'm quoting myself but when i replace the files above manually i didn't have any error messages, but then we are all using different motherboards/chipset, btw mines is intel p4. Further testing is appreciated. My USB flash drive is a 1GB Sony MICROVAULT. Thanks to all you guys.

I wasnt too sure about XPSP3 but i didnt have any problems using XPSP1 files

Did you also see the usbvideo.inf it also has drivers. Did you guys add these updates?

Well I have some good news, my Dell C600 Latitude has NT4 Server drivers. I'm going to take Windows XP off and install NT4. Before I do this I want to install only the core system network/server drivers. I need someone to help me strip it down to the bare minimum, that includes all the service pack updates. I hope you guys understand what I am saying.

Yes i do a have a Win 2000 Pro cd but i need it to be ran as a server and i don't know how that works. Can a Win 2000 Pro system act as a VPN server because i read only a server can act as a server. Thanks to you all.

One reason is for my own personal server. The other my sister just passed the bar exam and is about to start her own firm. Also name one product from M$ that didn't have vulnerabilities. IMHO there really is no safe Windows, some just has more problems than others. I'm not going to keep buying Windows Software just to have them not fix the stuff thats broke. WinXP/Vista/Windows 7 has vulnerabilities. You guys are just paying a lot more for them because i'm not. The retro versions of Windows do just what i need. I don't need all the fancy although i love the eye candy.

Is it possible to have a NT4 sort of like this Win98 setup here? http://www.winimize.com/ Do you guys think the USB drivers from Win2000 will work because they work on Win98?

98lite does not remove all the files from IE nor does IEradicator.

Is there an easier way instead of the complicated slipstream method. Sort of like packing all the updates inside a cab file and just altering the inf setup files.

Hey guys I'm new to this neck of the woods. This is what i would like, I have a old compaq armada 7380dmt and i'm going to install NT4 on it. The specs are 4gb hdd, 128mb 233mhz. This is the hard part what i want to do is only install the core system files meaning no IE, Direct X, Media Player etc... But i would like the updated system core files. I know there is no nlite or something for this particular version. Now i'm going to attach a USB HDD/DVD drive through a USB PCMCIA because it don't have usb. And this will be my server. The only thing that will be shared is the external devices. Thanks for the heads up.
