I can confirm that, not directly with storage devices but with USB2 controller drivers. One of my machines had the Orangware/Intel USB2 drivers installed before I installed NUSB. Even though I removed them from the Device Manager to install NUSB, when the machine rebooted, it reloaded the Orangeware drivers for the USB2 controller instead of the NUSB ones. Once I found out that the Windows 2000 USB drivers worked, I deleted my Orangeware drivers completely, INF files included. The Orangeware drivers didn't add any special functions nor did the Windows 2000 drivers. IMO they are considered equal. I didn't gain anything or lose anything. I decided to stick with Windows 2000 drivers instead of having both on my system. An old screenshot of my USB 2.0 using the Windows 2k drivers. I don't even install the Orangeware drivers because there is no need. SP3.x handles all my USB devices ATM thanks to NUSB 3.x .

You need to identify the device brand.

I agree 100% I have just added the README.TXT with proper installation instructions. Thanks
-
Thanks rloew Instructions also states that if no new USB drivers or USB files have been added, the procedure only needs to be done once. Hopefully this will help others in the future. At the same time, its a waste of time because if they don't follow them on the homepage, they aren't going to follow them on the forum. At some point, I find a lot of us constantly repeating ourselves for nothing. Thanks again

I have found TOUCH.EXE 5.0.1754.1 to be very useful. I have added it to SP3.7. I like files patched or not to have their original timestamps. Theres no need to change the timestamp if the version is changed. This will help users identify the newly patched version. When you use SP3.x and choose the change icons options, the original attributes changes. So I added the tool to fix that problem. If I patched a file on Win98 it always changes the timestamp, that same file patched on WinXP, the original timestamp is kept. I use resource hacker 99% of the time to patch files.

Maximus-Decim Native USB Drivers
PROBLEMCHYLD replied to maximus-decim's topic in Windows 9x Member Projects
Apparently it must be a hardware problem then since you follow instuctions. -
Thanks dencorso, LoneCrusader, Dave-H for shedding some positive input on this topic. Here is my thing, I don't have a problem with users input, my problem is when its only one person that wants something changed. This is why I fixed the icon issue because it was multiple complaints, not just one. If more people want it changed then I will consider it. One person is not going to do it. It was a hell of a challenge to add USB drivers and to just take them out, move them around aint easy. I apologize to the others members for my rants and ignorance. I think the key thing is, if you don't like it, don't use it. BOTTOM LINE.

Maximus-Decim Native USB Drivers

This tells me one or two things, you either have a hardware problem or you didn't follow instructions. You seem to be the only one with the SP3.CAB scanning issue. Since I can't reproduce the problem you are having and others are not witnessing, I can't help you. -
You want the spotlight, you just got it Mr. First of all, you are NOT the only one who has contribute to SP, so why do you feel the need to get special treatment? I told people if they wanted customize packages then donate $ 5.00 to the forum. But no....... You want to b***h and whine about SP. You have had many options to choose from but you didn't, now deal with it. Name one place in the world where you can go and get anything customized without a fee. Why you're so busy trying to point out what you did, you need to focus on SP 3.7. There will be no cheese with your whine. Sayonara P.S jds, you are banned from using SP3.x, delete it off your system immediately and never download it ever again. Ciao

I'm going to bed right now, but you need to believe I will be at your head later. Thank you for using SP3.x

The second spoiler should definitely be handed to many members on the forum. Thanks

This is why other alternatives exist.Unofficial Windows 98 SE Upgrade Pack (WUPG) Dozen Afterlife Edition November 2010 Unofficial Windows 98 SE Auto-Patcher v2.60 Unofficial Windows 98/98 SP1/98 SE/ME Power Pack (W9xPP) 5.01 Unofficial Windows 98 SE Service Pack 2 (SP2) I have said if others wanted this approach then speak up. So far he is the only one, and I'm not about to rearrange the whole package on his behalf. He could have said something 7 months ago when they were first added. I agree with you, its time to move on. If I could just picture your facial expression saying, its time to move on, I wil be lmao

I'm sorry, but since the SP doesn't suit your needs and probably won't and (others), you should look into these packages. Unofficial Windows 98 SE Upgrade Pack (WUPG) Dozen Afterlife Edition November 2010 Unofficial Windows 98 SE Auto-Patcher v2.60 Unofficial Windows 98/98 SP1/98 SE/ME Power Pack (W9xPP) 5.01 Unofficial Windows 98 SE Service Pack 2 (SP2) You seem to not want to follow instructions like you are exempt. They apply to you too. It doesn't matter what board/chipset. Follow the f***ing instructions or don't use the **** SP. I have giving you 11 months of updates, so whats your point? Sorry, but its not going to happen. Thank you for your input. All one needs to do is follow instructions and all will be fine. Most people that have USB problems are due to not following instructions. We had a big discussion about this already. One user was able to fix his USB issues by just replacing the standard USBHUB20.SYS 5.0.2195.6891 with a VIA version and haven't reported problems since then. The user(s) that don't like it, has the option of not installing the SP or installing the following other packages. Unofficial Windows 98 SE Upgrade Pack (WUPG) Dozen Afterlife Edition November 2010 Unofficial Windows 98 SE Auto-Patcher v2.60 Unofficial Windows 98/98 SP1/98 SE/ME Power Pack (W9xPP) 5.01 Unofficial Windows 98 SE Service Pack 2 (SP2) Why are we even having a discussion about the icon issue? They are optional. If you don't want them, then don't check the box, if you do want them then check the box. This is exactly what I was talking about. When you have the option to do either people still aint happy. I give up people. I see now why people abandon their projects. What some people are doing is not even feedback, its bul*****.

I haven't found anyone to get me that list that I asked for. Either people don't use the pack, too busy or just don't care. I don't have the time ATM to do it, thats why I asked for some help. I can start working on the pack as soon as I get a list. It is you guys who can motivate me to get the ball rollin. If you lack, then its makes no sense for any of us to waste our time.

3.7 will be out soon.

Maximus-Decim Native USB Drivers
PROBLEMCHYLD replied to maximus-decim's topic in Windows 9x Member Projects
It was very useless to point this out because I already have. I know I fly off the handle sometimes although I'm not the only one. I have admitted it already. So what was the purpose for your post? -
I decided to take dencorso file version Approach. The reason for this, most of the files listed below were patch, modded, hacked, tweak etc....... but the version wasn't change to show that the files are not originals. So I fix that problem. Some files has very high version numbers which IMO was unnecessary. The specific files will be in the final of 3.7 to reflect their changes. Patched Original COMDLG32.DLL 4.72.3510.2300 = COMDLG32.DLL 4.72.3510.2305 Patch File Patched Original EXPLORER.EXE 4.72.3612.1700 = EXPLORER.EXE 4.72.3612.1705 Patch File Patched Original HOTPLUG.DLL 4.10.0.2224 = HOTPLUG.DLL 4.10.0.2225 Patch File Patched Original KERNEL32.DLL 4.10.0.2225 = KERNEL32.DLL 4.10.0.2226 Patch File Patched Original MPR.DLL 4.10.0.1998 = MPR.DLL 4.10.0.1999 Patch File Patched Original REGEDIT.EXE 4.10.0.1998 = REGEDIT.EXE 4.10.0.1999 Patch File Patched Original SHELL32.DLL 4.72.3812.600 = SHELL32.DLL 4.72.3812.605 Patch File SHELL32.DLL 4.72.3812.634 + 4.72.3812.719 Combined Patched Original SYSTRAY.EXE 4.10.0.2224 = SYSTRAY.EXE 4.10.0.2225 Patch File

Yes, the new version does replace the Windows ME icons with the old Windows 98 icons, but you have to installMain Updates to replace them. No, you do not need to do a clean install. You can just install the necessary options.
-
I see no point in what you are saying. If I remove them, and make them optional, users will still have to follow the USB instructions regardless if its optional or not. If I were to remove them altogther, users will have to download NUSB package separately and they still will have to follow the instructions. As I stated on the main web page, the procedure only needs to be done once, unless new USB drivers has been added. From the looks of it, you seem to be the only one to benefit from this. I'm sorry, but it is not going to happen because there is no gain in it. Now if more people want the same approach as you, then I will remove them altogether. There will be NO OPTION for it Next thing that will probably happen is requests to make other packages optional. I'm going to make it my duty to make 3.7 the last version.
-
Yes, and me and the forum greatly appreciate it. Thank you Why are you so adamant about removing the NUSB? It has always been part of main updates and has been there for a while now. What is so special about your intel drivers? Maybe we all can benefit. ATM you are being selfish because you only want them remove for your benefit. If the drivers are causing you problems, then thats a different story. I don't think they are though. If I remove them, then they are gone for good. I'm not going back and forth with this. You have a beautiful day and thank you for using the SP.

This is about all you going to get which was over 5 months ago.
-
Thanks to all of you guys.

A new version has been released with original icons. Version 3.6 is what you might want.
-
I understand if some prefer the original icons. My point is, complaining doesn't help any of us.EXAMPLE 1: I don't use Win Vista, but I'm not in the Vista forums whining about I don't like this, I don't like that. I have nothing to say about Vista, good or bad. EXAMPLE 2: I don't know if you, jaclaz, rloew, and dencorso use the SP or not, but in some way, form or fashion you guys have contribute to the cause. Where I'm from, you put up or shut up. You guys tend to put up. Thats why I respect all of you. If you put in, you are entitled to take out. This is what I meant when I said if you don't use the SP don't bother to comment. Lets hope the whining stop after 3.6 is released.
