okay so after like...10 hours of waiting for someone to tell me whether or not i can reformat and not have to reactivate, and if that would work on windows office xp, i decided to move on. because apparently its complicated...i dunno. so i decided to simply try reinstalling XP. i dno...why not. couldnt hurt to try. im at my wits end. im breaking smashing the thing. id love to reformat it but i DONT KNOW WHETHER OR NOT I HAVE TO REPURCHASE XP. so i tried reinstalling it. i got a message saying i needed to be administrator. which is weird because im the only account on my pc. then i remembered that for some reason when i boot in safe mode another account appears called "administrator". so i did and...voila. there it is. so im in safe mode and i reinstall xp. it boots. and...it boots in safe mode. i guess its stuck because to put it in safe mode i ran msconfig and selected safe mode from the boot.ini tab. its the only way i know how to do it. so it reboots in safe mode. and i get a message that "windows cannot install in safe mode. windows is rebooting"so i click okay. which is the only option. and it reboots. in safe mode. same message. so now im completely stuck! endless cycle! HOW DO I REBOOT WITHOUT SAFEMODE HOW DO I REFORMAT MY COMPUTER, ONCE I GET ACCESS TO IT, SO THAT I WONT HAVE TO REACTIVATE?WILL IT WORK FOR MICROSOFT OFFICE XP 2003 PROFFESSIONAL? please...please help me. i need this computer. i need those files!

right, so i got a very problematic trojan. it doesnt seem to actually be doing anything, but NOD32 and Norton both have permanently plastered notifications centred on my screen. so im intending to reformat. t doesnt seem like a big problem to me because i keep all my files and installers well organized. so i can put them on some dvds and away i go. now i have adobe photoshop and ive found a very handy "transfer activation" feature. it closes down the activation on my current pc and brings it to a new pc. why doesnt Windows have that!!!? ive read something about copying the wpa.bak file, but apparently theres two files you have to copy? i only found one, and it didnt work when i tried it (i ended up just repurchasing XP) i dont have that kind of money this time though. so could anyone give me a quick step-by-step on how to do that? will ti work for my Office XP 2003 Proffessional edition too? ...hmm...sorry if im all over the place. i meant to add in there the trojan i have, because it might be easier just to fix the trojan. but i dont thinkso. its apparently called "Trojan.Adclicker" by clicking on the error message it brings me to a seemingly handy guide to getting rid of it (http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/trojan.a.d.clicker.html). I followed the instructions until it got to the registry edit window. I couldn’t find any files in the editor that matched the corrupt file name from Norton and NOD32. I know that all I have to do is delete the right file from my registry and all will be well, I just…don’t know which one… Please help?

i spent a few days networking my house, running cat5 cables all over and all of them lead to my bedroom, and my computer there. as of right now mine is the only computer running off this router, and it is hokked up to it with a 3ft. cable. im running windows XP Pro. NOD32, Zonealarm, Norton Antivirus, and usually Firefox. its took 29 minutes to load google using Internet Explorer. i cant run anything. im at my neighbours house to post this topic because it would take me days to get here via my pc. so WHY IS EVERYTHING SO SLOW!!!!? is wasnt before the router? now it IS!!! oh, its a D-604 DLink router, btw. 4 ports. not wireless. on that note, i was wondering...the 604 is one of the oldest in their router series. does that mean its a worse router than say...the D900? PLEASE RESPOND POSTE HASTE

i built a computer a few weeks ago, but i didnt buy a video card. im using an old pci video card until i can figure out which to buy. at first i wanted the ATI X800XL. then i figured id put the extra few bucks in for the All In Wonder X800XL. THEN i saw that the X850 All In Wonder is just a few more dollars. the problem is, it doesnt come in PCI-E. to make thinsg worse, they recently came out with this GT and GTO stuff. and im hearing people say you can take a PCI-E X800GTO and turn it into X850, but i dont think that includes all in wonder. so please, whats the deal. Why would ATI be so stupid as to not include AIW X850 with PCI-E? Whats GT and GTO. is there an AIW X800 GT/O? can i turn it into a PCI-E version of the X850 AIW, which is essentially what i want? is it worth forking over a few MORE dollars for 512mb in any video card? please help!

alright guys i need help pronto. i reformatted my friends PC and manohman i have no idea what motherboard hes using and his sound doesnt work since i have no audio drivers. what do i do? its an onboard soundcard and i thought that if i found out what motherboard he has i could download the audio drivers for it, but how do i find out what motherboard he has??!!

i recently built my computer (a week ago). i put 1024 mb of 800mhz OCZ memory on my Asus P5WD2 Motherboard along with a 3.2 Prescott Intel Chip. i have Windows XP Pro. SP 2. i have Norton Antivirus. Zonealarm. Adaware. so WHY is my PC so slow? if i have one or two simple applications open (lets say..Soulseek, microsoft word 2003, and internet explorer) my PC makes strange sounds. by listening to the side of the computer, it sounds like its coming from my CPU, but its extremely hard to tell. also, when i use ASUS diagnostic tools, it tells me the CPU is usually from 50 degrees Celsius, to 80 degrees. which seems a lot to me. is my problem simply cooling? do i have a virus running in the background? im going to post this in the Hardware forum and the software forum because i cant imagine what the problem could be. i was hoping for a finely tuned, decent computer that ran fast and let me do my work, but thus far im extremely disappointed. hahaha and if i hear ONE MORE PERSON tell me that my first problem was simply going with Intel and not AMD, im gonna...IM GONNA....probably still wonder why theyre saying that.

i recently built myself a computer, and at the time i thought it a wise choice to purchase a motherboard sporting two 16X PCI-E slots (Asus P5WD2), because id hoped to utilize ATI's Crossfire in the future. now im worried because im hearing a lot of people say i need a specific chipset. i chose the Intel 955X chipset because it seemed compatible with anything. now im hearing people talk about a new "Crossfire Motherboard" see, this makes no sense to me. would people really want to buy a whole new motherboard just for Crossfire? wouldnt it make more sense, in regards to marketing and customer satisfaction, to allow crossfire to function with already known and released chipsets? PLEASE respond. im so confused!

what are these "GT" versions? it simply means they have DDR3? i imagine thats better, right? i mean...im looking into an ATI AIW X800 XL PCIE. would it be better to get the GT version instead?

but...doesnt an ATI card alreayd support most of the functions of Media Center? the newer ati AIW cards like the X800 XL AIW have remotes too. and they perform PVR and such. i would have thought having an ATI card would make the purchase of media center stupid, and...redundant.

my friend asked for my help in reformating his computer. i copied the files he wnated to keep as well as "wpa.dbl" to a CD ("wpa.bak" wasnt there...is that bad?) i put in my windows xp cd (he couldnt find his) and told it to reformat. i noticed that someone had partitioned about 10GB off his harddrive in FAT32 while the rest was NFTS. i deleted the partitions and told it to completely reformat. after that we went to bestbuy to get norton antivirus. when we came back it was at the setup screen, where his cdkey didnt work, so i gave him mine for now, but im hoping this "wpa.dbl" thing works because mine wont activate. anyway, we rebooted the computer, and at startup, we were asked to choose between two operating systems. either: a)Windows XP Home Edition or b)Windows XP Home Edition whats up with that!!? if you choose the first one, it takes you to a fresh version of windows XP. good. the second one will lead you to a black screen that says it cannot find...lots of files. choose something else. is there anyway to get rid of that? and will "wpa.dbl" work without the "wpa.bak" file?

when you say they get "checked" does that mean they go to the coporation and count the number of keys in use there? or do they check in some ofrm of databse to see how many times that key has been used?

how can you remove outlook express from your PC? if you do, can you ever put it back?
