alright. i dont really understand. i dont want a default password to apply to each archive. just one archive with the password i choose. i guess what i want is a way to block people from viewing the contents of my archive, and force them to type a password to uncompress anything. i dont know. it seems simple. but this default password thing winrar has doesnt do JACK. its completely useless as far as i can tell. ive seen this done. os i know itr can be done. i just dont know how.

the card reader is an internal usb device? i dont reallyunderstand.

alright so i thought it was my usb internal memory card reader that didnt work. but ive learned something amazing, ALL MY USB DEVICES DONT WORK. i tried putting a USB memeory stick thing with some important files on it in my front usb slot and that thing popped up by the clock, "safely remove hardware". and its still there. i imagine it will stya untill i pull out the stick, as it usually does. but, like my memory card reader, it just..doesnt show up in My Computer. Windows Explorer just...doesnt see it. whats going on man!? i really really need this. can anyone help me out?

ive clicked "set default password" in winrar, set a password, and clicked "ok". but nothing happens!? i really want this to work. it would help me substantally. is there something im doing wrong?

sorry wolf, but i dont understand. i guess i mustve messed up my explanations. i dont reformat, ever. but if i do, i have nothing to fear. i jsut meant that my temp files are reset every time i reboot. i want to root my temp files to my thawed partition.

is there anyway to remedy this? i imagine that if i find away to fix this, it will help me out a in a lot of similar situations. downloading music using Soulseek or kazaa or whatever, for example.

okay, i found a way to completely protect my computer from every kind of spyware, viruses, general degradation in performance. its veryt simple, but of course it may not work for everybody. i have a 250GB harddrive. i simply created a 20GB partition off of it and turned the small partitoin into my C: drive. so once everything was installed and updated and defragmented, i froze the drive using Deep Freeze! the remaing hundreds of GB i had My Documents root to. so..if anything goes wrong, i simply reformat my C: drive, but i still have all of my work, videos, music...everything. it was temporary at first while i did some experimenting, but i liked it. there was a problem though. Utorrent. i love Utorrent. i think its amazing. and im always downloading one torrent or another. the problem is, when i freeze my PC, my downloads dont actually progress. ill freeze while a download is at 54 percent. should it get to....say...80 percent by the time i reboot my PC, i come back and its satill 54! this is confusing to me because all my folder directories, including my incoming downloads folder, are set in the large thawed partition. so whats the deal? freezing my C drive shouldnt affect it. i mean...Utorrent isnt evenm in the registry as far as i know. it has nothing to do with my C: drive. what do i do? how do i fix this?

alright im ahving some fairly serious problems with a media card reader i have. its an internal 3.5" usb device that reads floppy diskettes as well as seven different media cards. for some reaosn, in My Computer, its not there. the driver disk ivetried installing says its not there. oh! and i run windows XP. i found the product on the mnakers website, if you need any more information. http://ultraproducts.com/product_details.p...5&productID=365 i cant imagine what happened. it was there. it was fine. and then i did a long overdue Update from Windows Update. i downloaded like...45 updates. and then this. im almost certain it was a coincidence. i never downloaded any optional hardware updates. i dotn know man.. anyone go through anything similar who can share some wisdom with me? itds driving me nuts! my memory card is full!

okay. i had enough. as my defense against viruses, i long ago partitioned my harddrive. my C: drive, WIndows, registry, etc, are all on a 20GB partition, while My Documents and my Desktop and so on are on the remaining 200 or so GB. so i decided to just reformat. i immediately tried the neowin patcher and it worked like a charm. i have NO idea what happened. but it didnt work last time. i guess it shall remain a mystery.

alright. solidasarock, what do you mean stop telling you what isnt working, and start telling you why. if there was an error i would have told you. WHY isnt it working?! becuas it doesnt! my theme doesnt show up. what more could i possibley say? this patch should make my theme appear. and it doesnt. thus, it doesnt work. what more can i say. seriously. Innocent Devil, yes, those .dll files are in the folders. Timeless posted just before you saying that he tried the exact same theme im tyring, and it worked for him. solidasarock, im not familiar with the luna theme. i dont recall ever seeing it. before i try that, could you explain it? so i know what im looking for?

alruight. i tried using Xpize. that didnt do anything. i tried using the neowin patcher. that didnt do anything. i tried restarting in safe mode and putting the patched file in the System32 folder, as well as that I386 folder. nothing. of course by nothing i simply mean that my Area04 theme from 4impressions.net doesnt show up in my themes drop down menu. something i want to happen very much. what else is there?

okayt..this just..isnt working. im SO SAD. all ive ever wanted to do is make my own windows. have my own neat customized interface. i will pay a million dollars to the man who simply gives me a step by step walkthrough of how to do this. man. someone said.."oldest trick in the book?" and then said... makecab"? command prompt? old versin? patched file? i dont know NAYTHING. ive googled. ive posted. ive pleased. and soon ill have thrown up. i think ive been reading TOO much. because im just really confused now. a million dollars. no wait.....okay. if you give me a step by step on how to patch or...whatever its called, for windows XP Professional SP2, i will thank you. i will! ill thank you! so...if you want me to thank you, a lot, then please do this. because im crazy now. i really am. and...do you think that maybe a simple guide like that should be a sticky? i mena if its so popular, hweres the sticky? i dont know man. i only recently learned what a sticky was.

okay....im really sorry if this comes across as rude. i dont mean any offence. but...whats going on? why cant anyone help me with this. is this not as simple as i thought? SolidasaRock, that page has absolutely NOTHING that wll help me. it explains how to patch with NLite. which im not interested in right noiw. in fact, it tells you that if you dont have nLite, to go to the bottom of the page and read: "Select the version of your OS, and download the proper one. Replace the current file in your I386 folder with the one you download here. ALL are for use with an english version of windows." thats it. thats all it says. what does that even MEAN. the UXtheme file inst in I386 folder. what does that folder have to do with anything? why did you suggest this? is there anyone out there who can help me with this patch? please?

im so tired of going everytwhere and all i see is "just download the patcher". apparently Microsoft changed the name of Microsoft Antispyware. i was hoping someone could tell me what the difference was? i only know two things. one is, it now has a by far worse icon, and gui. seems less accessible. and two....why isnt it in the system tray area? that neat taregt looking thing used to be there and i knew it was protecting me. now i have nothing. whered it go? is it protecting? or is it just for scanning? the only button there is in the GUI is pretty much just :scan somputer". this sucks.

alright! so everyone was saying that it was either an infection, or hardware issue. probably heat, but possibley memory. to correct answer is... it was both! my memory is fine, my pc was infected with Blaster as well as getting too hot. once all my applications booted up with windows, my cpu got so hot that it shut down my oc. conbuned with the Blaster worm, it was very unpleasant. i used System Restore to get rid of the work, and i underclocked, as well as got rid of some of my bloated startup programs. thanks guys! once again!
