Auto Identify USB drive letter (..?)
IcemanND replied to kingprageeth's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
Are you running the BAT/CMD file from the USB drive so you need to know the letter the BAT is on? -
create a domain user group and add them to this group. The add this group to the administrators group on the machines. They won't have anymore rights on the domain than they do now, but they end up with domain rights on the desired machines.

I'm guessing but you machine likely has a SATA hard disk controller. XP does not have support for many SATA controllers. Check you BIOS and see if there is a setting for the SATA controller that can be set to compatibility mode. It should install then, otherwise you need to find the SATA controller drivers and add them to you install cd.

The easiest method would be to Boot from a Windows PE 2 cd and run Ghost32 from there. You will have network access and be able to map a drive to your network location.

I think this forum has a few people who should have taken Dr Suess' place, though punctuation may be needed. Hopefully none will TIRE of this soon.

Sysprep not recognizing drivers...
IcemanND replied to randalldale's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
It should be one or the other not both. with the exception of the registry holding the default of the windows\inf directory there should not be anything else if you use the sysprep setting. and nothing in sysprep if you are using the registry setting. -
Just don't BONK them on the head.

RunOnceEx entries are added, but never run!
IcemanND replied to Decker87's topic in Application Installs
Post your commands for adding the runonceex keys, or a screenshot of the registry key and lets see what you have. -
are you trying to boot from an interal or external hard drive? It makes a difference. If it is internal follow my instructions above to get the boot loader working right. If it is external (usb/firewire) follow instructions for making a PE2 USB thumb drive bootable. I have instructions for both in my guide here in the Windows PE forum. http://www.msfn.org/board/GUIDE_Creating_W...st&p=674778

A PAC might work. I've never had the need to do such, but from what I have found so far It might work. Have any sites I can look at for examples or good documentation?

Sysprep - Support Multiple Display Resolutions
IcemanND replied to _jd_'s topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
I believe you will need to do it either at first logon, runonceex, or maybe svcpack.inf, using a third party or self written EXE. There isn't any easy way to adjust screen resolution using VBscript at least. Maybe AutoIt could. If I can find it I have a VB6 app I wrote to change the primary screen resolution, might not take much to modify it for additional monitors. -

An alternative to Symantec Ghost Software
IcemanND replied to programmerbob's topic in Software Hangout
You could use Windows Imaging - http://www.msfn.org/board/GUIDE_Creating_W...st&p=674778 Or there is a fairly comprehensive list of imaging tools listed here - http://www.msfn.org/board/Disk_Imaging_Software_t100299.html -
Sysprep not recognizing drivers...
IcemanND replied to randalldale's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
check the registry before you sysprep. HKLM\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\devicepath it should only contain c:\windows\inf or equivalent if you use the OEMpnppath in the sysprep.inf. or putt all of your paths directly in this key. -
Sysprep not recognizing drivers...
IcemanND replied to randalldale's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
Where do your directories for drivers reside? from the way it is written they would all be at the root of c: c:\inf\ c:\inf1\ c:\inf2\ c:\inf3\ c:\inf4\ c:\inf5\ c:\inf6\ c:\inf7\ c:\inf8\ c:\inf8\APPS\PROSETDX\Win32\DRIVERS\ c:\inf8\PRO100\Win32\ c:\inf8\PRO1000\Win32\ c:\inf9\ c:\inf\10\ c:\inf\11\ c:\inf\12\ c:\inf\13\ c:\inf\15\ -
After further review: 6 most new words in a single sentence. 23 most new words in a paragraph. 7 most new words added by a post without a sentence. Now that the zits are gone I'm at my WITS end trying to come up WITH a proper sentence SITH the current record is seven and would need at least eight.
