  1. to install Vista Sp2 you need Vista Sp1 installed.
  2. but this only hacks Glass on Forms, but doesn't enable Flip3D. All features are based on license policies. <sl:policyInt name="Microsoft-Windows-DesktopWindowManager-Core-Flip3dAllowed" attributes="proxy-executed, override-only">1</sl:policyInt> <sl:policyInt name="Microsoft-Windows-DesktopWindowManager-Core-TransparencyAllowed" attributes="override-only">1</sl:policyInt> <sl:policyInt name="Microsoft-Windows-DesktopWindowManager-Core-ThumbnailsAllowed" attributes="override-only">1</sl:policyInt> <sl:policyInt name="Microsoft-Windows-DesktopWindowManager-Core-AnimatedTransitionsAllowed" attributes="override-only">1</sl:policyInt> <sl:policyInt name="Microsoft-Windows-DesktopWindowManager-Core-CompositionAllowed" attributes="override-only">1</sl:policyInt> All these settings are 0 in Home Basic and Starter.
  3. put the user back to the admin group, put the slider to top (always notify) and follow the steps I provided here: http://www.msfn.org/board/faq-uac-part2-t135472.html
  4. could you please post the full error message
  5. @trashy do you see any error message? cluberti is right. The trusted installer is the part which has the limitation. It thinks that the mounted files are in use and so a lot of packages are still in pending stage. When you now install the Sp2 into the Sp1 slipstreamed image, the servicing stack comes out of order and deletes some important files and you can't boot the slipstreamed image. THIS ALSO APPLIES TO WINDOWS 7 AND IS NOT FIXED!
  6. afair this function was removed with a security update
  7. no, read my explanation about what UAC is and don't post such unqualified nonsense, which is based on your missing knowledge.
  8. explorer.exe is fine, but a shell extension may be the issue. Run ShellExView and disable all NON-Microsoft Extensions and look it the crashes are gone.
  9. like all other features, the VHD boot is controlled by licensing. It is only licensed to Ultimate and Enterprise, only those 2 version have the Kernel-NativeVHDBoot Policy enabled.
  10. no, Stefan didn't answer. I think he still has other more imported things to do in his real life.
  11. I also have this issue with a cheap AC97 (intel) sound on my old notebook with Windows 7 Ultimate x86. Sometimes it helped to restart the 2 Windows-Audio services. The sound also sometimes stops with a strange clicking noise when I play music or watch video files. After this clicking noise I can't hear sound. On RC everything was fine. I also have no idea how to solve this
  12. please use the ImageX version from Win7 WAIK
  13. look into the folder C:\Windows\Setup
  14. you should post your Last Session.ini, so that we can see what you have removed.
  15. Floating Deskbands are removed in Windows 7
  16. download the WinVistaSide_UpdateInstaller_VistaSp2_9.08_x64.exe and open the command prompt and run WinVistaSide_UpdateInstaller_VistaSp2_9.08_x64.exe /extract. Now you can select where the updateinstaller extracts the cab files.
  17. http://www.winvistaside.de/downloads/updat...teinstaller-50/ use the /extract parameter to get the updates and integrate them into the Sp2 DVD
  18. simply start the ImgMgr Tool, create a new unattended.xml and add the updates.
  19. I've already installed the Trial 2 weeks ago. With this new Eval-Key you have a timebased activation (like Server 2008 R2, but they have a 180 days activation).
  20. Simply use the Home Premium. This is the smallest edition which includes Media Center
  21. use the new Windows Virtual PC (XP Mode). Virtual PC 2007 causes such hangs and crashes.
  22. use WAIK to generate a xml and use DISM to apply the xml.
  23. why? only because don't want to learn new things? just type "expl" into the search box from the startmenu
  24. Ask the question what Win7 has compared to Vista which makes a huge improvement over Vista on what it is worth paying the price. Win7 is only a Vista R2 under a new name with some new things, some change and enhanced but also a lot things inferior compared to Vista. The real improvements are the enterprise features (BrancheCache, DirectAccess, RDS) which you'll never use as home user. Win7 is a nice update for Vista, but nothing special. And the real things which enhance productivity, stability are not implemented and most feedback was completely ignored and closed "By design". NO! You're always using the Free Builds, not the Checked builds!
  25. wrong. the real Performance is the same on both. not much, only 40MB for me. And fewer memory usage doesn't make the system faster. Don't believe such marketing gags of such "memory improvement tools". no, caching in Win7 is broken compared to Vista. Win7 leaves a huge amount of RAM wasted as free RAM. This may be ok if you have 6 or 8GB. Filling so much cache is not a good idea, but leaving 600MB free on a 2 GB system is bad. you're focusing on graphics drivers. the rest are mostly the same. ok network drivers are now NDIS 6.20. Vista was a major update, not such a minor update like Windows 7. no, same as in Vista. With Vista MSFT componentized the OS from a inf based OS to a OS based on packages.
