Nope they are not crazy. JUST how important is your lost data? Data recovery is a BIG buisness.

Hmm please remember that WPI is not free for buisness uses. WPI was built using good ol' notepad and ALOT of experience\developing over several years. Many people have put lots of man hours into WPI. Other than that I am not comfortable with telling you how to make a WPI clone...

Good luck While syba cards are EXTREMLY affordable their support systems suck. I bought the same style card from them and payed via paypal. It didn't come with a drivers disk and after 5 emails asking for working drivers I finally had to put in a resolution asking for a payment reversal in paypal to get the drivers... Took me 4+ weeks to get drivers for the damned card...

Why are you copying the WPI folder? This hasn't been done in @4 years. It is MUCH quicker and easier to leave the wpi folder on your source. What you want to do SPECIFICALLY can't be done in WPI. You would have to add yet another script to your setup OUTSIDE of WPI

Yes it CAN be fully automated. BUT! Think on this: EVERYTIME you boot with cd in it is going to delete\destroy ALL partitions! Then install windows. (Quite a dangerous\risky prospect?) The screen size popup will not show if you have the proper drivers integrated for your video card. Which dell drivers? There is a section here dedicated to non os programs and addons for them. HUNDREDS of premade packages for most common applications. You just download them and add them in like hotfixes.

Seriously if you think you can afford to buy\purchase\acquire the tools and materials for your IDEA you would save money\hassle\time and gain a HUGE chance of recovering your data by sending it to a expert company. While pricey they have a large amount of successes and you would be spending ALOT of resources for 1 single attempt at home, that which you will most assuredly fail.

I would say you have a like a 5% chance of success. You have to think of ALL of the limitations here. Like have the platters been damaged? (Super likely if the heads are damage or the motor slow-downs\Skipping from false starts have not scored them) Can you find the EXACT same drive for parts? I mean it has to be EXACTLY the same. (Note I am being VERY generous with 5%)

How much ram do you have? The amount of space you are missing IS most likely the pagefile and hiberfile as others have said.

Without a couple of thousand in tools and supplies? Not a chance in hell........
