I'm trying to use PowerPacker to pack XP Pro SP3 and XP MCE 2005. However, it only gives me the check version/check edition message. That's as far as I can get. My OS is Windows 7 Ultimate 64Bit, if that helps. Any help with this would be appreciated. Thanks.

I recently made a DVD with Windows 7 32bit/64bit and Server 2008R2. Then, I saw a guide that showed you how to make a *.wim version of XP. My question is: Can this *.wim version be added to the existing install.wim on the all in one DVD that I made? If not, then could someone help me with adding the regular version of XP to this DVD. I currently have 3 computers at home. One Media Center, a desktop and a laptop. All run Windows 7. I want to setup Anti-Virus software on all 3 computers with just the Media Center downloading updates via the internet. The other 2 computers can then get updates from the Media Center via LAN. I wanted to try NOD32 Business Edition but they wanted to sell me a minimum of 5 copies. The Home version does not have the capability to create a update mirror. Microsoft's Security Essentials does not seem to support this feature. If anyone has any suggestions for a Anti-Virus package that can provide this feature, I would appreciate it.

I'd consider Windows 7 64Bit and increasing the RAM to Gig to match the rest of your system. I also suggest you get hold of a Microsoft remote and IR receiver set. It makes controlling your system a lot easier. Especially when watching movies, listening to movies etc. The drivers for it are built-in and this remote is designed for Media Center use. It can also be used to control other devices as well.

I installed Virtual PC with XP Mode on Windows 7 RC1 x64 today and everything seemed fine. Then, when I tried to shut down, not hibernate, the virtual PC, it crashed and could not enable the integration features when I restarted it. I then re-installed and it then worked fine but when I browse files on the host PC, like the My Pictures folder, the photos in that folder completely vanish. Deleted without a trace. Other files in other folders, while browsing, started vanishing as well. I immediately shut it down. My PC has no virus infections, spyware etc. So, this probably means this might be a problem with XP Mode and Virtual PC itself. If Anyone has any info on this, I would really appreciate it. Thanks.

No. Never tried that. Actually, I have very little knowledge of SFX type archives. Also, will this method then allow a seamless install of both Office and Project? My ideal scenario is if the user, after starting the installer, saw some sort of feedback confirming that Office is installed. Otherwise they believe Office crashed and want to start to re-install. Thanks for the tip. I'll go study up on SFX.

Thats a pity. I was hoping you would be sucessful. If it works, it would fit perfectly on CD without any problems. My current method already does. It just takes a long time to install.

I gave up on XP x64 MCE because there are no 64bit drivers available for the eHome infrared receiver and remote. Someone tried a while back to take the Vista 64bit driver a modify it for XP and this did not work. Maybe you should search the net again for such drivers. They could have been improved.

1. Ver 2002 is the ver of XP and 2005 is the ver of MCE which you have confirmed. The MCE 2005 ships with WMP10 and will therefore not accept WMP9. I don't use WMP11 on MCE2005 since it does not allow auto playlists to be created. The procedure I follow when installing is as follows: 1. After installing MCE 2005 and drivers and security software, install Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 and .NET Framework 1.1 SP1 2. Then install Update Rollup 2 for Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 3. Then install the October 2006 Update Rollup for Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 (KB925766) Then I install the Nvidia PureVideo Decoder or you can use the InterVideo Decoder as well. Setup your guide and remote and and other finer details and thats it for MCE 2005.

Thanks for the info. I really appreciate it. Unfortunately, my Office 2007 installation is corrupted. Probably from all those tests I was doing! I tried various methods to uninstall it including this method: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/928218/en-us It failed. Despite what I try, Office gives me a bootstrap error. I probably will have to re-install Windows 7 again. Oh well. That will teach me. Use a Virtual PC next time!

I have already searched the forums, various Microsoft blogs and have so far built a CD that when the installer starts, it asks you to choose your product: What I would like to do is if the installer would allow you to install both products at the same time as if Project is part of Office Enterprise. The method that I currently use forces me to go back and the restart the installer and then choose the other option. I have already embedded the product keys using the the Office Customization Tool. Any help is appreciated.

I found the a fix for this problem on www.sevenforums.com. Here's what I did: After rebooting your system: Go to Start/All programs/Accessories and right-click Command prompt and "Run as Administrator" (If you are prompted for password, close the window and do it a again. It should then go directly to the admin command prompt.) Then type in the fol. commands and press "enter" after each: net start w32time net stop w32time w32tm /unregister w32tm /register net start w32time Reboot your system. I added the extra net start at the beginning since the time service most probably won't be running. Also, after you reboot check for that "the windows time service is not running..." message in your date/time settings. It should be gone. Now, you should be able to synchronize to the Internet time with one click. I also tested it by logging on to a web server. It worked 100%.

While searching for a fix I found this: http://www.sevenforums.com/general-discuss...me-service.html Seems as if some other people have experienced this as well. If Microsoft disabled this service by default and only allow to run when required,then it will make logging in and administering a web server or forum impossible. Even when I manually start the service, I can't logon to the server properly. Unless i'm completely wrong about this or someone else has some better ideas, i'll have to keep searching for a fix.

After installing Windows 7 Beta 1, I tried to synchronize my clock with the internet and was immediately shown an error that the Windows Time Service was not running and that I should "contact my Administrator". I tried synchronizing anyway and suddenly the clock updated. I checked the service and saw that it was running. I restarted my system and checked it again and noticed that this service had stopped. I checked the clock and it gave me the "contact my Administrator" message again. It seems like this service is not running on startup even though it is on the list of startup services. I did a comparison to a Vista machine and my settings are identical. Normally this would not be a problem but this is a critical service if you want to login to a web server. I am busy trying to setup a forum and when I registered on a website hosting service, I got into a continuous loop of logging in because of this service that's not running. Re-installing Windows 7 did not fix the problem. I also tried various things including some reg fixes from Microsoft with no effect. I would prefer using Windows 7 since it runs much, much faster than XP on my system, however, this problem is forcing me to stop using it. Any help is appreciated.

A have a Acer 6592g Notebook, running Vista Ultimate Sp1, with all the latest Acer drivers, and have the following issues: a. When i click on the orb and then "shut down", then my notebook shutsdown and startsup fine b. When I press the power button, which is set to shut down the notebook, it starts to shutdown, blanks the screen, and thats it. The power lights and everything else is still on and the only way to do anything is to hold the power button down until it shuts down completely. Then on startup, it gives a message about a incorrect shutdown, and wants to know if to start normally. If I do, the green status bar just runs and runs forever. I have to then hold the power button down again. This time, it give me the option to run startup recovery and after that, Vista starts nomally again. c. If the power button is set for standby, then it behaves exactly like paragraph b. d. If I leave the notebook unattended, then after some time the power saving features kick in and then it behaves like pargraph b. again. I have tried scanning my system for a virus or 3. I have tested my ram. Everything checks out fine. I have now included my performance analysis file for anyone to have a look at. Any help is appreciated. When I did a standby, 2 files got generated. Unfortunately, you have no choice. Your key determines if the installer asks for the 2nd disk or not. That means using a XP Pro key would install XP Pro only, however that would would be a violation of the End User Licence Agreement for the MCE 2005 version that you purchased. Also, MCE does not support downgrade rights to XP Pro to my knowledge, anyway. So, legally , you are are quite shagged! The only option is to go with my 1st post, i think, or buy XP Pro if you HAVE to have it.

You could just install MCE anyway, and then disable the following services: - Media Center Extender Service - Media Center Receiver Service - Media Center Scheduler Service Then it will be the same as regular XP Pro. Just don't open Media Center.

Sorry for taking so long to reply, but I was very sick during the past week and it was quite difficult for me to get anything done. Anyway, I tried what you suggested it did not work. Vista x64 refused to recognise those drivers. From what I can gather, those are the same drivers , from the link I proved, just extracted using something like Universal Extractor. Therefore, that means i'm completely buggered. If iBurst don't provide proper 64bit drivers, then there is nothing more that can be done. Thank you so much for help. It is really appreciated.

I have PCMCIA iBurst Modem that has 32bit driver support for either Xp or Vista. Recently, I installed Vista x64 to take advantage of the 4Gb of ram I have on my laptop. Contrary to what was said in another thread, Vista x64 allows signed 32bit drivers to be installed perfectly fine. I tried it with a few different drivers. However, it seems as if iBurst placed some some sort of platform identifier within the installer of this specific driver that causes it to give an error message of "cannot install only for Vista". Seems like it has to find vista 32bit before the installer will even start properly. They say that they have no idea when 64bit drivers will ever be available. If anyone can help me modify this driver/installer to get past that error message, i'd be forever grateful.

I have a laptop that supports Vista x64 and am in the process of purchasing the DVD. However, I am currently using a PCMCIA iBurst modem that only has 32bit driver support. This driver is a signed Vista driver. I read somewhere that you can force Vista x64 to run in compatibility mode to accept 32bit drivers as long as they are signed drivers. My question is if this true and if anyone can confirm this. Any help or information is appreciated.

Vista SP1 RTM has the label FRMCFRE_EN_DVD. I would like to know if anyone has list of all the other Vista DVD's and, if possible, Server 2008 as well. Any help is appreciated. Thanks
