[release] Windows Server 2003 - XP Conversion Pack
vinodh replied to Windows X's topic in Windows 2000/2003/NT4
The XP Conversion tool will just help you to enable certain features, like visual styles, DirectX etc. that are normally disabledin Server. However, it is still Server. XP apps will still identify it as Server. To get apps to identify as it you need to use tool like TweakNT or NTSwitch. This will change the platform identifier so thatapps will see the OS as XP 2003, not Server. Be aware that changing this could cause problems and is supposed to be illegal. -
[release] Windows Server 2003 - XP Conversion Pack
vinodh replied to Windows X's topic in Windows 2000/2003/NT4
Also been running this for over a month. Excellent!!! Tried to make a cd using the coverter, however, during the file copy part of the installation, I get an error saying that it can't find 2 files (xpconv.exe and xpconv.sif). The wierd thing is that these files are on the disc, in the root directory. -
so, have you tried reloading the driver? or downloading newer ones?

right-click on the exclamation mark. see what the issue is. post what it says. might help. BTW: did you mess around in the BIOS recently? if you reset the BIOS, the onboard sound might be conflicting with you stand-alone sound card.
-
you removed the ram, cleaned, re-inserted and the ram check was done 3 times? If this is what happened, then your ram is fine. 3 times is normal. you can try removing the dvd rom and sound card from device manager. the click "Action>scan for harware changes" and let windows detect the hardware. It should reinstall everthing automatically and remove any conflicts.

After searching and finding out that DVD Shrink will not work with Server 2003 SP1, i figured a very simple method to get it working. 1. Install as normal. 2. Go to Control Panel>System>Advanced 3. Click the "Settings" button under Performance. 4. Click on the "Data Execution Prevention Tab" 5. Ensure that the radion button "Turn on DEP for programs and services except those I select: " is selected. 6. Click the "Add" button and browse to the "DVD Shrink 3.2.exe" file 7. The click "apply". 8. Done!!

first thing i would do is open the box, remove and then re-insert the ram. if u have 2 sticks, try removing 1 at a time and rebooting. I often find ram to cause lots of problems. Also, in your BIOS, try to change your boot to normal, not fast boot. This should enable the full POWER ON SELF TEST and might reveal the problem. Try the ram 1st, though.

What Anti-Virus do you Use/Recommend?
vinodh replied to DigeratiPrime's topic in Malware Prevention and Security
I used to use Norton 2005, with all the extras but found that it slowed down my system. I then changed to Mcafee 9. However, the Alcan worm infected my system in beteween updates! i.e Once the worm was detected by Mcafee, it said that it could not be removed until it recieves an update. Amazingly, it was set to auto update and, i'm on the net everyday. So, after all that i use NOD32, with Outpost firewall. Everything seems fine, for now! -
ran complete scans, again, with Windows Defender, Mcafee AV and AD-Aware. Found nothing. IE and firefox still goes to InovaOne Studios every now and then. I will try to re-install windows in the next few days. Aaaaaaarrrrrrrggghhhhhh!!!!!!!!!! Just downloaded and installed Spyware Doctor. It found 107 infections!!! So much for Windows Defender!! It can't even Defend my a**, nevermind Windows!!!!Hopefully, everything should be back to normal. Thanks again.

Thanks guys. I'll try it out later, when i get back from work.

When i use the net, and browse for a few minutes, sometimes, suddenly, IE6 decides to go to a site called "InovaOne Studios". If i then open FireFox or Opera it does the same. If i restart the PC, and re-connect to the net, everything seems fine. However, this situation is temporary. I can sometimes browse for hours with no problems, or just 10 minutes and pick up this problem. I'm running Mcafee Enterprise 8.0i AV with the latest definitions. Also, i have the lastest updates for XP as well as the latest updates for Windows Defender. Various scans have revealed nothing, so...... Any help is appreciated.

i found that using RyanVM's update packs worked the best. It contains all the hotfixes in one, easy to integrate pack. Go to http://www.ryanvm.net/msfn/updatepack.html to find out more.

Well, since it was related to norma.dot, it mean't that when you uninstalled office, that template was left behind. At least it's fixed.
-
try disconnecting any non-essential hardware: extra hard drives, cdrom/dvd rom drives, lan card etc. try to eliminate some of the hardware. if all else fails, perform a clean installation. a clean installation is always better than an upgrade.

Which version of Word are you using? Also, i'll attach a copy of my normal. dot template. this file is the base template. Use this file by overwriting your current version. Do a search for 'normal.dot' and overwrite all versions of this file with the attached version. Since normat.dot contains all formatting and styles etc. , it might help. BTW: Word 2003 does NOT use normal.dotNormal.zip
