  1. Ewww why do you want to ruin Windows 7's superior Task Manager and superior Explorer? Instead I would have hybrid / fast startup, Hyper-V, SMB 3.0, USB 3.0, Recimg.exe on Windows 7. That's just about it. Everything else is sickeningly worse.
  2. Yeah that's terrible in Windows 8. The "status" action also disappeared from the right click menu of the connection. It unnecessarily covers the notification area and the Windows 7 pane displayed virtual wi-fi (hosted wi-fi) connections too which this dumb Metro s*** doesn't show at all.
  3. If hell really exists, do you think Ballmer, Sinofsky & Julie Green will go there? :D

      yes, especially Sinofsky.

Julie Green, Jensen Harris, Antoine Leblond, Ballmer all deserve to go to hell for torture of billions.

  4. Yeah, it fixes different annoyances on each f***ed up NT6 OS Thanks.
  5. Classic Shell 3.6.6 works with the leaked builds of Windows 8.1 aka 'Blue'. Get a sexy looking skin for it here: http://winaero.com/blog/introducing-winaeros-exclusive-special-skin-pack-for-classic-shell/
  6. I like the themes at Winaero.com. Multiple high quality wallpapers in each theme pack.
  7. We have released a skin for Classic Shell over at Winaero. It looks good in Windows 8, much better than default skins. The skins shipping as part of Classic Shell do not match the look of the Windows 7 Start Menu or the style of Windows 8. Many settings also need to be heavily tweaked to get a more closer look. We tried to match the look on Windows 8 while making some changes from the Windows 7 style. For example, the skin has square corners, not rounded corners, like Windows 8 has. Also, because Windows 8 no longer has blur or glow, the glass is replaced by simple transparency, just like the Windows 8 taskbar uses. Semi-transparent Start Menu without blur makes the content behind it much harder to read, so we made the skin with very subtle transparency, that keeps the content behind it readable. Download link: http://winaero.com/b...-classic-shell/ Please read the provided FAQ there. Sample:
  8. If you are a very smart geek, you can turn off Defender. Defender IS slow, especially the one in Windows 8 because it's MSE now (same engine, doesn't matter). But it does slow down. If you must use an AV, use a free one like Avast that's light on resources.
  9. Unfortunately, you can't (yet). Metro apps don't belong there. Ah nice Tihiy. StartIsBack creates a shell namespace extension for Metro apps. Smart. Btw @OP, if you don't mind using the free OblyTile, using it we can pin a shortcut to a Metro app to the Taskbar. Here's how: http://winaero.com/blog/how-to-pin-modern-metro-apps-to-the-taskbar/
  10. You're welcome. Btw if you install it on modern versions of Windows, UAC breaks. Google how to fix it. MS has released a "Fix It".
  11. Here's what I think. We are all deeply butthurt by Windows 8. It's an insult to desktop Windows. Microsoft is showing no signs of turning back to their less evil non-cheating self. They have no plans to stop oversimplifying for grandma and destroying existing features. So the Deeper Impressions thread turned into a ground for raging and ranting but there is only so much you can say about a once-good company which completely stopped listening to its users and turned evil. So I guess it was a timely decision to move the thread into a less conspicuous section of the forum.
  12. Besides Start Menu and Aero Glass, what do you miss in the crappy Windows 8 over Windows 7?

      MagicAndre1981

the WIFI priority dialog, the file conflict option to keep bothfiles and the Advanced Appearance Settings to change the icon spacing.

      xpclient

Yeah. I miss everything too. :( They even removed the Merge or delete network locations dialog.

  13. "When I close modern app" is cool and nicely done.
  14. There is a nice section for Member-contributed projects: http://www.msfn.org/...buted-projects/ so given the number of awesome free tools you have, it will be nice if the MSFN mods put them all in one subforum under member-contributed projects by the name of "Winaero tools' or 'hb360's tools'. Just my two cents.
  15. Btw, what about the glossy caption buttons which glow upon hover? The Windows 8 DWM also ruined those. My bad. Caption buttons obviously are part of the visual style. Sorry for confusing them with glass chrome.
  16. OblyTile allows it. Using OblyTile, you can create a shortcut to a Metro app on the desktop. Then that shortcut can be pinned to the Taskbar or put anywhere else you want. OblyTile comes with a launcher EXE in C:\Program Files\OblyTile that launches Metro shortcuts by their AppID.
  17. Couldn't you use the console version of Device Manager, devcon.exe to disable and re-enable it? The W7 WDK has it, even source access. Here's is the stance on its licensing: http://social.msdn.m...9-6cbb4819730f/
  18. @Formfiller, it's not easier. It's simpler. LOL, no it's a trainwreck. And I can assure you Windows 9 is going to be worse.
  19. Everywhere I go except MSFN (Eightforums, Neowin, Twitter), I see extremely dumb people praising the dumb people at Microsoft for creating Windows 8. Did Apple put some spell on the whole world to go dumb? How did people use Windows all these years from Windows 1.0 to Windows 7? They were finding it difficult to operate all this time?
  20. The blur effect looks nice!! What about the Taskbar and Windows Explorer title bars?
  21. Tihiy, Shift+Restart in Metro takes us to the graphical boot environment so you don't need to reboot twice to boot into another OS. Possible to add the same to StartIsBack's Restart command?
  22. Yes order is not important.Just run the cmd files in whatever folders have them. Where there are no cmd files, just run all EXEs and MSPs or copy a cmd file to that folder and run it.
  23. ^^ Do you by chance have Windows Defender or MSE enabled? It is incompatible with AutoHotkey, causes CPU hangs. Disable it and use another AV because despite reporting the problem on Connect via MSE's "public betas", the problem hasn't been fixed for the past 3 releases.
  24. So like always used to, Microsoft has made available for Windows 7 and Server 2008 R2, the RDP 8.0 update: http://support.micro....com/kb/2592687. It adds *some* RDP 8.0 features. But there is also a catch. When using RDP 7 from Windows 7 Ultimate/Enterprise client to Windows 7 Ultimate/Enterprise host, there was a cool feature called Aero Glass Remoting means full Aero experience was enabled over RDP!! Now with KB2592687 installed, this feature is REMOVED from Windows 7 hosts when Windows 7 clients connect to it!! Aero features like Flip 3D, Peek, thumbnails stop working over RDP Windows 7 Ultimate to Ultimate when this is installed. So again, KB2592687 is a case of something nice added, something broken/crippled/removed. It also removes the Shadow command used for used for monitoring an active remote session and has a number of other known issues. Just be careful of installing it, if you don't want to lose Aero Glass over RDP (it only works in Ultimate/Enterprise client to Ultimate/Enterprise hosts anyways). But I am confused. This is madness. Why is MS crippling Windows 7's RDP features? Why would anyone want to gain new features in exchange for old ones?
