Roobocop pretty much said it..the tags aren't all the same. i have a quite large library myself, and have come across this issue so many times. There are two types of tags for an mp3: IDv2 and IDv3. when the two tags aren't the same, thats when this issue comes up. also, programs don't always tag the same, so this issue is pretty common. i have a library of 7000+ and i've spent days fixing tags like that, but there's nothing else you can do do solve it.

Ok, so i haven't really touched my old server in a while [its my backup workstation for school] and i've come across this issue where it went from recognizing 640MB of RAM [1x 128, 2x 256] to recognizing 128mb of RAM. now, that other 512mb of RAM is crucial to me, its the backbone of running that computer with XP [much less 2000 Professional]. i haven't tried memtest, but am i just completely done at this point? i had taken all the RAM out so i could move a hard drive up one slot [the RAM was in the way] and when i put it all back in [same order] my computer only recognized 128mb. now, its weird, because its performing strangely fast [dual 783mhz P-III Xeons]. this is becoming very frustrating, due to the fact that i need this tower running again for school. i suppose i can settle with less RAM, this computer is just going to be used for minor web-browsing, IM, and text writing for my classes, but it is a major blow because i fully intended to run photoshop 7 as well as audition 1.5 [my most heavily used applications] to get other work done. for the time being, i have the two 256mb sticks of RAM out of the motherboard lying on the floor of the case [for grounding purposes] but would like to know if there's any other way besides memtest that will tell me what my choices are. i have my new computer and its running fine, so i'm not completely out, and i also have my laptop, but its stressful [and i'm sure i'm not the only person to have this kind of issue]. i'm hoping my Xeons aren't nearing the end, its a box i really don't want to get rid of... any advice is greatly appreciated, bonestonne

Celeron = bad, they aren't even dual core i'd at least put a C2D in it...E6600, if you've got the extra money 6750. reason for skipping P4D completely is the TDP...while some can outperform a lower end C2D, its not all power.

what you need in a server depends on its use. a low end server could be built from a PC, no joke. the second you start running virtual environments the requirements go up. I have a dual PIII Xeon rig that will be turned into a fileserver in my house by the end of the year hopefully. its 9 years old, and has plenty of power for the job. if its a basic file/print server, almost any dual core will do it fabulously, but past a single OS, you're looking at something much higher. from what i know, any dual core can handle that job, 2 gigs of ram would be better, and you can always change a graphics card. i don't want to go around popping anyones bubbles, but i rarely see a DIY computer be more expensive than a pre-configured one. once you get into mods thats one thing, but initially, you'll save money and learn something doing it yourself.

work + work firewall in conflict
bonestonne replied to bonestonne's topic in Networks and the Internet
alright, thanks for that cluberti...i'll have to figure out how i can contact that guy...he seems to never be around, but who knows. last year it was just a firewall, but now its a proxy. i'm hoping i can escape the place within a couple years before it starts getting really bad, but thats another story for another day. -
ok, so where i work, i have to get music reviews and such, and today i was writing a script for a local event that i'll be broadcasting either friday or tuesday. so i've come across some firewall issue thats completely different from what it was last year, and i don't have ways around it like i used to. messege received when going to certain websites, are: does anyone know anything about how to get around this? i'd rather be able to do my work while at work, but i'm kinda bummed on this. if anyone can help that would be great, if not i'll have to track down whoever manages it...even on my laptop i get it, but whatever. last year it was possible to work around this, but the new firewall is completely different.

Please Help me decide what I should do...
bonestonne replied to c0nt3nd3r's topic in Hardware Hangout
is that even a respectable enough question to deserve an answer? it simply runs terribly and has poor management of its resources. as for the topic, what was that final cost again? 2.1k? i wouldn't pay anything if its coming with vista on it. you could do much better, and learn useful tricks [such as saving money] by just building it yourself. there's no need to put thousands of dollars into a computer that could easily cost a couple hundred less. HP is a very good company IMHO, as i've had 2 HP's and there are a total of 5 in my house, but that computer isn't very worth it to me. ever since i actually built my first computer from scratch [my dual Xeon rig] i've kinda faded out my need for windows and the need to go through a larger company for more than i need. and what would you need an external USB modem for unless you have dial up? thats where i see silly choices being made. don't have more than you need lying around the house either. clutter is bad for ergonomics and feng shui. -
after running nlite over 100 times on my home pc...
bonestonne replied to undevelopeder's topic in nLite
if you remove files for a UI and then select it to boot from, of course it wont work. i just use the classic version, no issues, remembers everything i set fine. maybe you should try a slower burning speed, or just setting it afterwards. personal problems aren't necessarily widespread or common. -
my PII Xeon server would do that a lot because it would overheat..i'd have to wait for it to cool off before i could even try to do anything with it. when i first got the PIII Xeons for it it was unstable, but it worked itself out i guess as its solid now. i'm not entirely sure what to tell you though, its possible the board is dead, but have you tired anything else like clearing the CMOS or anything like that?

Disc partitioning with an older bios
bonestonne replied to ButchN's topic in Hard Drive and Removable Media
it may be a limit with Windows XP Home Edition. my sister had a similar problem with her 160gb drive, only she could only use 120gb. and i had theorized that it was the recovery partition, however when i reformatted the drive for her new computer, the recovery partition was only 4gb, so there was nearly 40 gigs completely unpartitioned. XP Professional doesn't have the issue, to my knowledge just Home Edition. -
a program that worked for me is called Get Data Back NTFS, there's a Get Data Back FAT as well. but as advised before, do it over a network if possible, if not, make it a slave and do it in another computer, but make sure you have the hard drive space you need for recovering. not to beat a dead horse, but might i suggest and external enclosure for a hard drive, and moving the data drive into that? external enclosures are cheap, and they don't require you to buy a hard drive. i've done similar things in the past, so i know the feeling of losing several thousand songs.

Scythe S-Flex model F is a very beastly fan i must say. i intend to order 4 as soon as possible [probably close to the holidays because i can't warrant it just yet]. 60+CFM, very quiet, easily undervolted. definately not something that will dissapoint you. better to buy the fans in larger quantities though, its not the cheapest fan you'll find.

E6600. Pentium D's are limited to an 800mhz FSB, E6600 is using 1066mhz FSB. along side that, the E6600 is a much more up-to-date processor, lower thermal dependancy, etc and so forth. clock speeds mean nothing. bus speed, thermal dependancy, and CPU technology are what matter.

if its only one stick of RAM, than dual channel doesn't matter. have you tried other slots on the motherboard? the RAM might not be labeled properly..but i dunno...not sure what to say.
-
Is the RAM meant to be running in Dual Channel mode for 800mhz to be reached? Is the memory standard of the motherboard DDR2 800? more specifically, does it support DDR2 800?

heh, reminds me of the P4 i found one time...except i nabbed another P4 CPU like it [luckily]...people got rid of it for a fried CPU, i stuck in a new one, no issues here on in. havent payed for a thing in that P4 [512mb of RAM, 40GB samsung PATA, matrox millenium dual head, soundblaster 5.1] just one thing i've learned from the dump is that no matter how nice it looks, you've always got the risk of it not working how you want it to. it would be awesome to see you turn it into some awesome custom linux box...got it free, why not keep it free?

the fan it came with wasn't broke, one of my fans was...i put the fan i got with it as the exhaust fan, turns out that the fan i was using was cracked. i'm not worried about the internal 80gb drive [although loosing space is bad, i have an external 400GB drive which is where all my back up stuff is. internally it just needs to be compatible, i can handle the external, which is more important. the 80gb drive has already been eaten by an HP computer, and has its issues, so i'm just going to let it live how it is.

its entirely possible, but the only game i really ever play is Alice, so its not like i can go through a big list and compare.

just a couple of pennies from me, but isn't nVidia slightly more prone to frame tearing? for a gamer thats not exactly welcome. just what i read [and i have an nVidia card, which does tear frames even in very low requirement games]. in regards to Windows 2k, i never tried it on my new computer, but it has iffy performance with my dual Xeons [it tends to favor one core under load] so i don't think it was ever really meant for multi processors. could just be my computer though, it behaved the same with XP. i'll stop there, i don't game so i can't say anything about that.

have you searched dell's website for a driver?
-
its possible, but only in technicalities. i mean, theres no reason for it to not work, but it really isn't the smartest of ideas. however you could just as easily get an external burner and know it works completely. that and why not put it in your computer? its better than relying on a USB bus to burn stuff.

i'll be getting a whole new crop of goodies soon, but hobbies first, 3 shurikens before anything else =P holiday money will sponsor a load of everything i need, and holidays are just around the corner, so its worth the wait. my three next proposed chances, which may not necessarily happen in this order are: -4U rackmount case -2 more GB of RAM -320+GB hard drive

i don't really feel like turning off my computer to take out the fan again, i just got it back together again. there are 3 to 4 spokes that hold the hub of the motor in place, theres one thats broken at the hub on a fan i have. its also recently refused to start at 7v...could be trouble. i'll be putting a 92mm fan in tomorrow to tide myself over, see if i can glue the fan and change it to maybe 8 or 9v with a potentiometer if i can find one. my rear fan is running @ 7v my CPU fan is running @ 12v my lower front fan is running @ 7v but it can't start by itself, i have to give it a push.

so thats the squeeze, i have the power cables routed by the base...the heatpipes aren't even warm with the fan on the heatsink. [yes i did touch it] its really close to the RAM, i need to also work on an issue with the fan thats on the ninja being cracked by the motor..i'll be putting a 1000rpm fan on the ninja, moving the 1200rpm fan down the bottom of the case where it wont be as troublesome. right now i have one clip actually off and the fan resting without pressure still blowing on the heatsink. can't do any tests just yet on it, but its definately cooler than stock by a very large margin. If the partition is going to be > 8GB that's a bad, bad, bad, bad choice. Hell, even if it's < 8GB that's a bad choice. Stick with NTFS.I don't know why people think FAT32 is so good. You'll end up with a TON of wasted space on a FAT32 partition simply because of the cluster size. OS X cannot write to NTFS and the Fuse drivers i've tried don't work for me. not much of a choice there. having a 63gb library of music is tough to have between 3 OSes. do you prefer i say SATA 3.0gb/s?

search open box products, if all you need is the mobo it'll save some money.
