98 FE + 98 SE + ME updates + patches + (hot)fixes
the_guy replied to MDGx's topic in Pinned Topics regarding 9x/ME
@erpdude8: I'll resend the IE patches to MDGx this weekend. All of them (unofficial) redone. Also, what's this about 905915 on 95? the_guy -

Sounds good. Also, did you test shdocvw.dll and browseui.dll from MS06-065 (your thread on the delete issue states browseui.dll from this patch). I think it's a good idea, and I will try it when I get the chance. the_guy -
Ok. Thanks guys. I'll try it and see what happens. the_guy

98 FE + 98 SE + ME updates + patches + (hot)fixes
the_guy replied to MDGx's topic in Pinned Topics regarding 9x/ME
I don't think SHDOCVW.DLL for WinXP SP1 [Q924496] works with 9x OSes [none of the internet explorer files I've tried ever have ], but I can't test this because I don't have XP SP1 installed anymore. All you need to do is download the MS06-065 fix on an NT5 OS, extract it, and copy the files from SP1QFE over to a 98/ME PC. Also, new problem with your 918899 fixes: You have it using the catalog file. Personally, I'd remove all references to it in the *.inf files. That way, you don't have anything conflicting with SFP, as you have SFP disabled BEFORE running the registration of the .CAT file. Also, you should probably add the CAT file from the 2000/XPSP1 update for the NT-based OS install. Just rename this to Q918899.cat. Just suggestions. the_guy -
Thanks for the replies. If I get a chance, I'll try it and get back to you on what I did. Also, can anyone answer the other part of my original question? the_guy

98 FE + 98 SE + ME updates + patches + (hot)fixes
the_guy replied to MDGx's topic in Pinned Topics regarding 9x/ME
That is correct. @MDGx: I have already developed fixes using the Microsoft format, and have sent them to you a few weeks ago. Also, can anyone confirm/deny about MS06-065 on 98/ME? the_guy -
I think this is mainly for having support at the beginning of setup, where you select the partition. the_guy

98 FE + 98 SE + ME updates + patches + (hot)fixes
the_guy replied to MDGx's topic in Pinned Topics regarding 9x/ME
@MDGx: To me, it just looked like they wouldn't install. I didn't test them. 925486 I'm unsure over, but I'm positive 918899 won't install. The way the .inf files are: Q######.inf is for NT-based OS's, while Q######_d.inf is for 98/ME. Just my observation. For your unofficial 924191, you are missing the following registry entries: HKLM,SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\ActiveX Compatibility\{f5078f1b-c551-11d3-89b9-0000f81fe221},"Compatibility Flags",0x00010001,"400" HKLM,SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\ActiveX Compatibility\{f5078f1c-c551-11d3-89b9-0000f81fe221},"Compatibility Flags",0x00010001,"400" HKLM,SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\ActiveX Compatibility\{f5078f1d-c551-11d3-89b9-0000f81fe221},"Compatibility Flags",0x00010001,"400" HKLM,SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\ActiveX Compatibility\{f5078f1e-c551-11d3-89b9-0000f81fe221},"Compatibility Flags",0x00010001,"400" HKLM,SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\ActiveX Compatibility\{f5078f1f-c551-11d3-89b9-0000f81fe221},"Compatibility Flags",0x00010001,"400" HKLM,SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\ActiveX Compatibility\{f5078f20-c551-11d3-89b9-0000f81fe221},"Compatibility Flags",0x00010001,"400" HKLM,SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\ActiveX Compatibility\{f5078f21-c551-11d3-89b9-0000f81fe221},"Compatibility Flags",0x00010001,"400" HKLM,SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\ActiveX Compatibility\{f5078f22-c551-11d3-89b9-0000f81fe221},"Compatibility Flags",0x00010001,"400" HKLM,SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\ActiveX Compatibility\{f5078f26-c551-11d3-89b9-0000f81fe221},"Compatibility Flags",0x00010001,"400" HKLM,SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\ActiveX Compatibility\{f5078f28-c551-11d3-89b9-0000f81fe221},"Compatibility Flags",0x00010001,"400" HKLM,SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\ActiveX Compatibility\{f5078f29-c551-11d3-89b9-0000f81fe221},"Compatibility Flags",0x00010001,"400" Also, KB887606 for MSXML 4 is replaced. the_guy -
HOTFIXES: Windows XP SP2 & Windows 2000 SP4
the_guy replied to Incroyable HULK's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
924191 replaces 887606 for msxml4. 923191 does NOT replace 921398 unless you are using XP SP1. the_guy -
Yes, it is a mistake. The reason I suggested it is that the resource file is the exact same version as the one included in XP SP1/2, as well as the Rollup for 2000. the_guy

Welcome back Oleg. @Tomcat: 2000/XP no longer need msxml3.msi if 923191 is included (only exception is 2000 SP4 without the Rollup). the_guy

98 FE + 98 SE + ME updates + patches + (hot)fixes
the_guy replied to MDGx's topic in Pinned Topics regarding 9x/ME
@erpdude8: I'll be making unofficial fixes for that by the end of the week. Also, there is no fix for msxml 2.6. the_guy -
I'm not sure. The only ones I can see affecting 98/ME are MS06-061 (msxml3/4) and MS06-065 (IE6SP1, but maybe not as it doesn't affect Windows 2000). the_guy

Those F****G paper-clips in Outlook Express! Help
the_guy replied to Dr. Mac's topic in Windows 9x/ME
Is she using AVG for her antivirus? If so, then AVG adds an attachment saying if the email is clean, or what viruses were detected. If not, then I have no idea. the_guy -
@LLXX: I don't really understand what you're talking about. Could you please clarify? Also, I read somewhere lst night that in order to do this, I would just have to disable DHCP on the second router. Can anyone confirm/deny? the_guy

Thanks for the replies guys. I don't have that much money on me, so I'll probably have to run antivirus/antispyware apps before connecting the computer to my network. I'm just positive I saw somewhere before that showed how to use 2 routers on the same connection (one behind the other). Guess not then. the_guy

I've read online about people having one router behind another. I was wondering if I have to modify anything on either router before I plug in the second one. I have high-speed cable internet, if that helps. 1 thing I'm concenred about is having to call my ISP. I just had one computer, and it was going directly to the internet. I bought a second one, and installed a wired router. Once I had installed my wired router, I had to call my ISP to reset my account, probably because the MAC address has changed from my original computer.. Then, a couple of years ago, I bought a wireless router. I set that up so all but one of my computers was wireless (last one's wired just in case the wireless failed, and to allow my network to work properly). I did not have to call my ISP after installing this router. Now comes my question. If I reconnect my OLD router to my cable modem, and connect my new router behind it, will I have to call my ISP to reset my account again, provided it wasn't reset since the original router was installed? Also, what modifications do I have to do to my routers to make them work without a problem? The reason that I want to do this is because I'm starting to repair computers for others. I want their computer outside of my home network, so if they have a network-aware virus, it cannot affect my computers when no one is logged on (thus allowing my antivirus to run, as I don't think antivirus apps run while Windows is on the welcome screen). Thanks in advance, and I did search before I posted this, finding nothing. the_guy

I forgot to post this earlier, but there is a known issue: Any file being copied to within the "Program Files" Directory will fail to copy. Cause is still unknown, but if anyone can help, that would be greatly appreciated. the_guy -
