  1. Amazingly enough Creative finally released their updated drivers for Windos Vista Beta 2 on August 11th.... So I figure we'll see their RC1 drivers around February 12th....
  2. Might need to be "Run as Administrator"...
  3. nVidia has a few Vista drivers on their site, I recommend checking there to see if they have drivers for you main board.... There will be a few devices for which you wont be able to fid drivers, I've got an Asus A8N-E and there's one driver that I'll never be able to fins as it gets installed when you insert the Asus CD, which i s not a Vista compatible driver....
  4. I experience similar problems with Windows XP... Typically a repair install ought to work to resolve the problem... Though I don't know how to do a repair install with Vista... The typical method is that from the boot up install there'd be point where it see previous versions of Windows and it'll come up with a previously unavailable "Press R to repair his install of Windows"... I haven't twiddled around with this similar method for Vista, but in theory if you get your hands on RC1 build 5600 you SHOULD be able to do an upgrade to the newer version from within Vista which should theoretically repair the issue... In theory...
  5. So, I bought Windows OneCare after using the beta version since I was more satisfied with it compared with what else is currently available... Have it installed on 3 computers right now, and I want to be able to install it on Windows Vista... My biggest issue is that in order to install OneCare you need to install it from the inernet (Well, I have to, since I didn't buy the install CD) I've found the directory that the install files are placed in (&Programfiles%\microsoft onecare\staging\) Mostly consists of MSIs and CABs, but through the use of Orca, an MSI editing tool, I'm able to remove the requirement for needing to be run in Windows XP (removing the requirement from the 'Launch Conditions' section)... So I can get it to install in Vista, but not actually run properly... I'm assuming the Microsoft Protection Service is not entirely compatible with Windows Vista... Is this an issue with the way Vista runs its services or is there a larger issue at hand that I'm not entirely aware of?
  6. This may not be the best place to ask, but I figure i might as well ask it here for fear of making another thread... Seeming as how they said there was a huge issue with the x64 edition of Vista Pre-RC1, does this mean we're not going to see a 64-bit version of Vista RC1, or does this just mean that there will be no 64-bit Pre-RC1 Vista and that later on they WILL release a public RC1 x64 Edition Vista? I only ask because me being the way I am I'm trying to live in a 64-bit environment, right down to the fact that I USED to use a copy of XP x64 Edition, so yeah.... I currently installed Vista 64 on my machine and I can't upgrade, need to know if I should just do a clean install of Vista 32 Pre-RC1 and upgrade to RC1 when it comes out.... As fun as Betas are, they can be a bit tricky to manage, especially when you're trying to keep track of two different beasts...
  7. Biggest problem right now is the lack of proper driver support... For example, ATi's Beta 2 Vista drivers don't include OpenGL support, meaning that OGL games such as Doom 3, Quake 4, Prey and other will not load. Also, making games compatible for x64 edition is made simpler by installing a virutal machine or having a second computer which has the 32-bit OS installed to allow you to get a few work arounds.... For example, Star Wars Rebellion (Released in '98), but through the retooling of a NoCD patch you can manually install the game yourself and make it work... As I always say "Just because someone says no doesn't mean don't, just means they would prefer if you didn't...." If the software tells you to back off, take a different approach.... In other news Need for Speed Most Wanted works fine, though with ATi's drivers you can expect a psychadelic pixelation problem in all games which use DX9, which since OGL has been disabled means that ALL games will show some sort of psychadelic pixelation problem... I've actually all but stopped using my gaming rig until RC1 comes out...
  8. I got a video from someone online and it's all upside down, was wondering if anyone knew of a peice of software that would allow me to flip the video around 180 degrees without having to re-encode it.... A quick addendum here... I just tried playing the video on a different player and it played in the proper orientation..... Why would it be flipped 180 degrees in one player and not the other?
  9. Thank you.... I guess I just don't know how to use Google properly...
  10. Was wondering if anyone knew where I could get a trial copy of the ADSTools utility that ADSTools.net used to host... Every site I go to just points to their site to download it and their site seems to have gone offline... Was wondering if anyone had a copy of the trial they made....
  11. I found a plugin by a person named Frodo, this plugin is to allow Ghost 9 to be useable in a BartPE environment, however to make it work you need to have .NET Framework installed... ColinFink made the .NET Framework plugin I'm using now... Now, the .NET Framework plugin is working just fine, but when I add Ghost 9 to the mix it gives me an error along the lines of: Error while executing: BrowseUI.dll Error while executing: Shodvcw.dll Error while executing URLMon.dll After doing some googling I found a previous post from last year which states that to fix it they enabled both the QSoft autoRamdisk resizer and the Qsoft Ramdisk, however I've only got the Nu2 RamDisk and AutoRamDiskResizer attached, and both turned on and I still cannot get those errors to go away... Does anyone know What's wrong here? Edit: To add a small detail.. Just before I get the errors I get "Cannot Enable RAMDisk Service (Code 3)" just after the AutoRamDiskResizer says "Attempting to rstart RAMDisk"
  12. Latest ATi drivers posted on their website is 5-31-06, and I'm using those...
  13. Is there a way to get OpenGL to work in Vista x64 on a Radeon x700Pro? The OpenGL features all appear to be missing..... Was wondering if there's a workaround or if I'm just screwed.
  14. I used Orca and found the section which talks about what conditions stop the installer from working, and removed the "Invalid hardware" checking, installed like a charm... Thanks Now to figure out how it's supposed to work... Tough when they don't supply a manual...
  15. I'm got an Intel D945GTP motherboard, which uses an Intel 945G Express Chipset, which according to the Intel website should be Viiv compatible, however having just gotten off the phone with Intel (Being a reseller is great, free tech support) I've discovered that NOT ALL 945G chipsets ARE Viiv compatible, it has to have the '-dh' at the end of 'ICH7', so it'd be 'ICH7-DH' My goal here is to analyze and determine how to prevent their Viiv software from detecting that my chipset apparently isn't compatible, primarily because the website was a bit misleading... So, I've extracted the initial .exe and look around at it's .ini's and .inf's and can't see anything too obvious about the hardware, I think I found out how to get it not to care about the OS, but not the hardware... So inside the .exe was a .msi which I used LesMSIerable to extract it's contents, howver of a 4mb .msi it pulled out 2.59mb worth of content, so I'm wondering where else should I be looking to find this "Check hardware" type switch that I can flip off...
  16. I'm a technician who fixes alot of computers, I look for cheap shots at trying to solve issues... Repair installs are also a great way of circumventing Service pack 2 install issues... For me while the utility may be alot of work the actual pay off would be better than a ghost as it would be used on multiple machines, where ghost can only be used on one machine. For ME a utility like this would pretty much be worth the effort, in some cases....
  17. So, my theory is that there's got to be a quicker way to do a repair install of Windows, and I found a list of the files that XP deletes when it's doing an upgrade. Running under the assumption that the Repair Install is in fact an "In Place Upgrade", as Microsoft calls it, then I should be able to just delete those files and then copy over the replacements. I'm not actually looking for a way to go through the install process, most of the time my reasons for having to do repair installs are due to damaged and/or missing files. So, I want to take the list of files in the txtsetup.sif file and then see what happens when they are deleted and then replaced, and I want it to be able to run from within a PE. (Let's say I Ghost bad hard drive A to good hard drive B then reboot and discover I now have to repair Windows, well using this tool I could just quickly go through replacing files... So, how hard would it be to make a tool which would ask what version of Windows you're trying to repair, get a list of files and directories for that version, and proceed to delete them, and then ask for the location of the replacement files. Example: What version of Windows? Home OEM <Deleting Home OEM upgrade files> Where are your source files? X:\setup\xp\xho\ <Copying replacement files> Done. ---------- Where <Deleting Home OEM Upgrade files> Would be the list of files to be deleted on upgrade, and <Copying replacement files> would be the same list being copied from the CD. Probably not the best example, but you get the general idea... If someone could help me in what the best method in creating such a utility is, and how to go about making it I'd appreciate it.. Assuming it doesn't already exist... My hope is that using a tool like this would save me from calling Microsoft after a repair install, or even backing up the WPA stuff...
  18. I was under the impression that downgrading hasn't been enabled yet, meaning that the upgrade is a one way trip...
  19. I dunno when you last tried CS:S but HL2 has had a 64-bit version for awhile now, it gets updated automatically upon detection of your OS... Not sure if that makes all other Source engine games 64-bit, but HL2 is....
  20. Bojo: There's only one boot.ini file and it's almost always on the C:\ drive as this is the boot drive, and as a result all other operating systems which are installed place their boot files on C:\, to test this theory install Windows XP on Partition A and XP x64 on partition B, once the installs are done, format drive C:\, this will in turn case x64 to no longer boot...
  21. Windows XP has to be installed to the second partition, when you do what you did XP is going to load and look for all it's files to be on the C: drive, though now it's the D: drive.... Best way would be to do a reinstall from scratch and install it to D: so all the appropriate registry entries would be made... Or once the ghost is in place pop in the XP CD and see if you can do a repair install.... But then all your software would be messed up too...
  22. I'm using the onboard NIC of an Asus A8N-E but the internet doesn't surf properly, and I'm having all kinds of all kinds of problems getting at other computers on my network.... While surfing the internet not all pictures load properly, and some websites don't load at all. Google, and anything Google related being some of them... While surfing my network I seem to be able to get random access to the computers near me, but nothing permanent... Is this a Beta issue, driver issue, or configuration issue?
  23. 64-Bit 11.4GB 52,471 files 9,747 folders.... This is not after a clean install, but I haven't installed much, Creative drivers, Steam... It's just about a clean install... All said and done installing Windows took up 20GB of my drive...
  24. Dude is absolutly right... I retried the X64 XP drivers and they not only work fine, they work for 5.1 suround sound. You just need to right slick the setup file and choose "Run as Administrator"... I have 5.1 surround sound in Vixta x64
  25. Suppose installing vista in a VM and installing a VM in the Vista VM would open a hole in the space time continum
