  1. Well, this is embarrassing. Can anybody send me a copy of my acrobat 6.0.2 installer? I accidentally corrupted my copy and can't access it anymore. PLEASE
  2. That's pretty much my thought - it's not going to hurt to have the updated version even if isn't 100% necessary. What registry entry is that? I'd like to add that to my registry tweaks. I can't believe there isn't a better way to do that. Actually, I'm from Michigan originally and now live in Philadelphia . Go Yanks! Meh, for what it's worth, baseball is the sport I'm least interested in. I wore my Yzerman jersey to work today in mourning of the lost NHL season (and the likely end of his career) .
  3. Just so you know, many of these registry tweaks can be discovered on your own very easily. Use a registry tracer program like Advanced Registry Tracer to compare the registry before and after a settings change. You'll find it works quite well.
  4. Yes, look back a couple pages for the registry entries involved in doing it. From there, just go to the registry section of the MSI file in WinINSTALL LE and have the MSI add those entries.
  5. I'm not familiar with making MST files in Orca, but you could edit the MSI file it WinINSTALL LE easily enough and remove the sections you don't want installed.
  6. It's likely that such a scenario was determined to be a bad idea later on. I can think of many issues that would arise from such a situation which would lead to stability problems and such. I'm betting that emulating hardware leads to a more stable computer in general.
  7. You didn't remove the entries in txtsetup.sif, dosnet.inf, or drvindex.inf, did you? IM me
  8. 1.) I'm not sure, but it might improve generally compatibility with those processors.2.) How do you get around the updates showing up on Windows Update with XPCREATE? What annoys me the most is that it makes a copy of every EXE you integrate, so it's essentially doing double time. 3.) Yeah, but I bet you don't get as good of compression either . I will NEVAH be converted .
  9. at the time of installation it's probably the same, from unattended guide: at the time of testing, you can't use guirunonce but you can use runonceex Oh, so you're adding the registry entries in for RunOnceEx to test it then? I guess that makes sense.
  10. That's roughly what mine is too.
  11. I don't understand why people seem to be using that method so much lately rather than just executing a cmd file from GuiRunOnce in winnt.sif. Is there some advantage to starting them from the registry that I'm missing?
  12. What's that picture? It sure looks to me that your StartX is a program named START.EXE, which conflicts with the Command Statement "START". If you do, in fact, have a program named START.EXE, there is your problem ... StartX is the program used by the SFX installer to start msiexec (since 7zip can't start EXEs not in the folder it extracted to). If he's using switches, that's the problem. 7-zip self extractors pass extra switches down to the EXE being executed, and it sounds like it overrides the switches defined - so it's trying to run StartX.exe /qb which will definitely cause problems. THE EXE RUNS SWITCHLESS. THEY ARE PREDEFINED IN THE INSTALLER.
  13. Do nVidia's current platform drivers integrate their firewall into Security Center? If not, that'd be a nice update. Meh, I'm sure it'll happen in the next release.
  14. No, you can leave those settings in. Just add the FolderSizeThreshold key and you're good to go. I actually combined his decompress/compress batches into one and updated them for sp2. Send me an IM and I'll send it to you (I don't want to post it on here out of respect for his work).
  15. eh? I'm not sure what you mean by that.
  16. Try these: http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=20817&hl=menu http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=27122&hl=
  17. Not working here. Not sure why it isn't working. I used the same config for that one as I did all the other (working) installers. Try redownloading, I guess.
  18. *sigh* That's what I thought. Thanks for the confirmation. EDIT: It looks like that hotfix is for post-SP2 as well. It updates update.sys to build 5.1.2600.2508 (from 5.1.2600.2180) EDIT2: The /integrate switch works with it too B). The only thing I don't like is that it doesn't compress the file at all. But it does automatically create the svcpack directory with the cat file and exe file in it. Pretty nice. EDIT3: Here's the SP2 update info (if I read the link you gave me correctly, this version number will be different for SP1): KB885626 Date Version Size File name --------------------------------------------------- 01-Sep-2004 5.1.2600.2508 209,280 update.sys
  19. Glad to see everything worked out in the end And yes, I know all too well about how annoying it can be to do a whole install to test one minor change. I do it all the time when I'm tweaking my install batches and registry tweaks . Not to mention testing all of the switchless installers I've made recently .
  20. OK, but I have to disagree. I think it's far better to deal with the occasional DEP issue when it comes up rather than have to deal with the hell he'll be likely to get himself into as a non-technical minded individual with DEP disabled. It leaves him far more open to threats out there. I guess it's a pick your poison situation. Deal with cleaning his computer up from all the garbage that's likely to get on or deal with DEP issues from time to time (though I have to be honest, I've been using SP2 since Beta1 - build 2055 - and have yet to run into any DEP issues whatsoever with any of the programs I use). Also, Windows Firewall works surprisingly well. You might give it a shot before putting ZA on (from what I've heard about ZA, it's had lots of issues since before SP2 came out).
  21. Is it just me, or is Microsoft using a different packaging technique for the KB885626 update? I opened it up with WinRAR and saw a new format that I hadn't seen before. I'm also wondering if this fix is actually needed for SP2. It looks to me that it's a patch to be applied to SP1 systems prior to installing SP2. I tried to confirm that by looking at the file versions in the installer, but they're in a foreign format. But I'll play with that more tonight and see if I can figure it out.
  22. Are you also one who doesn't buckle your seatbelt in your car because it takes too much time? The only "known conflict" with AMD64 chips was with the Sigma Designs Hollywood Plus DVD playback software, and the reason for that was because of poorly written software. The only reasons ANY programs are having "known conflicts" with DEP is because they didn't write the programs to the Win32 spec in the first place. SP2 just chooses to enforce the spec rather than letting it slide like in the past. Not strictly enforcing the spec was one of the main reasons so many worms and viruses were able to exploit the system. By turning off DEP, you're putting yourself right back in that boat again.
  23. By emailing it to me like I asked. (Once again) ryanvm@gmail.com
  24. Well, 3D18 is in the SATAII drivers, but not 3574 (3575 is, though). laurens, please send me the actual drivers, don't just post the INF.
