  2. I created a spreadsheet for my new computer specifications. it will calculate the shipping minus the rebates and so on for the entire system so you get an idea of what your spending. it will also properly calculate if you buy more that one of a particular item like 2 video cards or 3 hard drives. Provides a good layout of your general system specs. I created it in office excel 2007 so i am not sure how it will look in older versions of office but let me know what you think and if you find this useful. ps. it currently has the new system specs in it that i am considering New_PC_Spreadsheet.rar
  3. I also use newegg.com quite often but i have found that some things are actually cheaper at amazon plus shipping is usually free if you spend over $25.
  4. no. there are no windows install files on the C: Drive. Everything to insall windows is on the D: Drive which is a recovery partition that cannot be looked at.
  5. thanks for the reply but this is not what i am asking. I am not worried about the partition being there. I want access to the files on the partition and to be able to pull vista out of the partition to create vista install disks.
  6. *Bump* come on guys i know there are others who have bought vender PCs that have had recovery partitions.
  7. Alright here goes. I bought a Compaq laptop on blackfriday. The C717NR to be exact. It comes with a Recovery Partition that contains Vista Home Premium. There are no Vista disks and the user must create a recovery disk by going through a few steps to burn a dvd with the files on the partition so that the laptop can be reformatted if needed. the files in the Recovery Partition cannot be looked at. and the recovery CD is not recognized by my desktop. I am sure there is a way to do this but i would like to know how do i get Vista out of the Recovery Partition. I would like to reformat and put XP Pro on the laptop and at some point put Vista on my Desktop. What method do i use to complete this. thanks
  8. Great replays this is exactly the info i wanted. Thank you very much
  9. Aright what would be the performance difference between a drive with perpendicular recording and one with out. If everything else is the same. Is perpendicular worth paying more for or not? I understand how perpendicular recording works i am just unsure of how much of an advantage it is.
  10. Are there any sites that compare these two PSUs? I have having a hard time deciding which is better for a high end gaming system. Seasonic has 4 rails vs Corsairs 3 rails. And i believe seasonic is more efficient. But im looking for a good comparison thanks
  11. Alright i am looking at 2 deals on black friday (the day after thanksgiving) for external hard drives the first one is at Circuit City for the Seagate Freeagent 500gb for $80 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16822148235 the other one at best buy for Western digital 500gb for $100 http://www.amazon.com/Western-Digital-WDH1...l/dp/B000XRK3LG i am a huge seagate fan but from reviews i have been reading this one seems to have a high failure rate. Anyone own these drives? Comments what would you guys do? looking for some good advice
  12. Avast! I am not going to pay for antivirus when a freeware application has prevented me from ever having a virus issue!
  13. Alright i have a cable internet connection Whenever i enter standby my connect is immediately lost. Even if standby lasts only 1sec. I have only have this issue when using cable providers for my internet connection. When i use wireless i have no issue (i have my network card configured correctly). I have tried a few programs that claim to keep your connection from being dropped but all have failed. I have also tried a few methods to regaining my connecting without rebooting. All have failed. I would like to have standby setup where i do not have to reboot after standby to connect to the internet. ideas for a method to stay connected or a very simple way quick way to reconnect without rebooting?

    nlite bug

lol nice guys i understand that. i should have been more clear. When i select to remove images and backgrounds once windows boots up i still have the default bliss wallpaper (all others are removed) that i can select as my desktop wallpaper. However the bliss wallpaper is spelled with a lowercase "b" rather than uppercase "B" also if i choose the default xp theme rather than the royale theme i have installed on boot unattended xp does not select the bliss wallpaper as the background even though the file exists as a choice. In my opinion either 1. Bliss wallpaper is also removed along with all other wallpapers OR 2. Bliss wallpaper is the only one that stays and it is able to be selected correctly when the default xp theme is selected
  15. how to you put to to use your .inf file? can this only be done during a system install? What changes would i make to my install disk to create this setup. Any negative effects for creating these settings?
  16. I had used 0.0.9.1 to slipstream WMP11 and the hotfixes on your page to perfection however i upgraded 0.0.9.4 and used it to slipstream wmp11 and the fixes into source and when windows booted up as it was customizing settings it came to wmp11 and it stated that a reboot was required for settings to take effect and it had me select yes or no. This is not a huge deal but this prompt is not what i want in my xp unattended. using xp sp2 with hotfixes reintegrated with nlite.

    nlite bug

I have noticed that in my install of nlite that i install the media center theme as my default theme during my installation but if i select to remove background images from source and then i chose to select the default xp theme that the background is set to blank rather than the default bliss background. I have produced this error twice
  18. from my understanding NET framework 3.0 includes 1.1 and 2.0
  19. i learned autoexec.bat does not exist in xp so this tweak must not be for windows xp
  20. Alright i know sp3 is about to be released i just have a few questions about what i will still need to include in my install folders after integrating sp3 into my xp source. AS of know this is what i am thinking Windows Media Player 11 (along with hotfixes applied to this file) Internet Explorer 7 .NET Framework 3.0 (along with hotfixes applied to this file) User Profile Hive Cleanup Service QFEcheck Does anyone have any other files that they plan to install along with a sp3 disk?
  21. when i performed a search on my xp system it did not locate a autoexec.bat file. It found autoexec.nt. Would this have any effect if i disabled the parsing of auotexec.bat. Is this file on my xp system?
  22. Should i disable Parse of Autoexec.bat. Maybe a silly question but what does this do and in what situations would i want to parse this file or not. How would i know if this is needed in my system or its better to speed up my shutdown process without it?
