How's the closed captioning support for that card? Last I heard they hadn't added VBI support to the drivers yet. Any updates? --iWindoze

Hey Dirt.. You might want to try asking XPero (creator of XPize) for suggestions on how he does it, since I know he uses a simuliar method in his XPize packs. --iWindoze - fixed name spelling

Like the other guys said its probably the ports you were used to have been turned off by your ISP...then again you might want to check your machine if you've been running without any kind of Firewall at ALL and see if the issue might be a virus or piece of spyware. Have you purchased\used any SONY cds in your computer lately? And last but not least try checking in your options or preferences to see if there is an option to 'randomize' the port you're using in kazaa. Or maybe try using an alternative like Shareazza or Gnucleus instead of spyware ridden trash like kazaa...I haven't used the program since they shutdown k-lite which was IMHO the only good version of the program. Good luck and happy file shares! --iWindoze

Is there really exist Windows Me Professional?
iWindoze replied to anphorea's topic in Windows 9x/ME
Based on some creative googling that appears to be a Win95 serial number set.... -
That was my experience as well...in Windows MCE using the MCE shell everything was great...fantastic even! But the moment I tried to do anything other than straight up playing media files the system was impossible. I originally did some searching for a web browser app for the MCE shell only to find none exists. So my thinking was why not just go with 640x480 on a system that tends to default to lower resolutions? --iWindoze I'd be interested in seeing this! What are you using for apps? I ask this because I can't seem to get a consistant font size with my various apps...stuff like Shareaza just refuses to use higher fonts. THen again if I run in640x480 that'd hardly be an issue.... Please post the skin at your earliest convience! --iWindoze I'm, giving this option some hard thought...the televison I'm using is a bit problematic (problematic = cheap) and I'm thinking of taking it back to the store while there's still time under manufacturer \store \ and extended store warranty to do so...if I can find a nice one for roughly the same price as the tv I picked up I'll just go with that. My old WinTV card still works (just barely) and I'm planning on picking up a new MCE compatible one anyway sooo...this might all work oput for the best anyway.. --iWindoze PS: Thanks for the replies!

Hey all... I've been experimenting with hooking my computer to my TV using SVIDEO, and while I had been using WinXP\WinXP MCE2005 I had a sudden inspiration: Being that Win9x was created at a time when lower resolutions were more common wouldn't that work better on my TV screen?" Has anyone else done this and can they give a comparison as to how much better or worse the screen looks in Win9x than WinXP on a standard TV set? Thanks in advance! -iWindoze

Argghh! and here I was trying to hint at things by mentioning the wikipedia article so as to avoid bringing abandonware links to the forum...or is okay to post those links now? PS: Have you seen Redux yet? [ http://www.3dmmstudio.co.uk/listmovies.php?page=R#movie_571 ]

Well I'd say that part of the issue lies with Microsoft's naming scheme... 'Windows 98SE' just sounds to be older than 'Windows 2000' despite the fact that Win98SE was released near the end of 1999...(which is why I suspect that we'll eventually see the return of year based releases at a point in the near future.) Now contrast that with 'Windows 4.10' versus 'Windows 5.0' and the gulf doesn't seem as wide...especially for those of us running with one or more of the unofficial service packs or third party system updates...it seems to be largely at matter of perception. --iWindoze

Perhaps a better idea (more inclusive?) would be to attempt to build these things from files used in various system upgrades\hotfixes...that way you could either A) provide all the files needed and exclude through EULA legal liability to those who use the files, or B ) be able to set things up in your project in such a way that things can continue to be automatic\slipstreamable. This is important to me, and I'm sure that others would agree one of the things that makes your project so remarkable is the unattended nature of your updates. If you're open to using third party packages perhaps you could include WMShell in your project, thus allowing themes for those who REALLY REALLY want it, and giving that project a well deserved shot in the arm? As far as I can tell those are NOT the correct apps. You'll want to do some googling around to find a better copy of the program. IIRC 3dMovie Maker was just a Windows 9x bundle for the 'My First PeeCee' crowd and the Nick version of the program was a freebie that was given away in cereal boxes. I'd recommend reading up on Wikipedia to try and see where the 3mm community hangs out these days. I'd say more but I don'yt want to be in violation of the TOS. All I can say is that three megabytes IS NOT the right file size...more like 300mbs! There is a 'compressed' version floating around only good for playing downloaded 3MM files, but that'ts just a rip and its not good for much of anything without all the 'extras' that got removed and even that weighs in at about 78mbs or so... Even Micorsoft isn't going to be able to cut that down to 3mbs. Good luck on your search. Also IIRC there was a mini demo of about 40-90mbs on the old Windows 95 'Companion' cd that shiped with some home PCs. Look in the demos\Tours folder of the cd. Good Luck! PS: I've been sucessfully running it from the cd I have and it is working fine in Windows XP (using compaitibility to run in 640x480) but it complains about being in 16bit color and wants 256 coulor mode. Don't pay any attention to it when it complains; it'll run just fine in 16 bit 'high color' mode.

No problems man...your question brought back memories of my first computer and how I used to waste HOURS on Microsoft 3D Movie Maker trying to use the program to make my own film...heh..I wish I'd managed to save my work but I know that if I ever saw it again I'd think it unbearably lame! Especially when compared with the stuff the guys at that link I gave you have been making! I couldn't believe how much effort they've been putting into their movies...Look at the Redux movie that Aaron Haynes and Jason Meckes made...mindblowing stuff that is! I can't believe how badly Microsoft blew it when it came to this 'kids' program!
-
IIRC (and I'm pretty sure I do because I was OBSESSED with this program at one point..) what you're talking about is Microsoft's 3D Movie Maker program from their kids division (yeah..this was a kid's program...go figure! @@ It was rather cool for what it was at the time you could use prerendered characters and move them in situations of your choosing to create your own 'movies' the biggest constraints at the time was the fact you were REQUIRED to have the cd in order to be able to view the 'movies'. Why Microsft never made some type of Office extension to allow a stand alone movie or some kind of export is beyond me...typical MS not seeing what they have right in front of them until its too late.. Check your PM box for a link to see some more info on the program! --iWindoze

Cool...this is good to know (although I currently only have 512mbs of RAM on my boxen who knows what tomorrow will bring?) What I'd like to know is what are the feasibility of telling the OS to load just about everything into a ram disk and running from there...this is a question especially aimed at those guys running one of the miniwinis... Any one have personal experience with this? --iWindoze

SHGetFolderPathA, IIRC is related to the Windows Media Player shell files... it's been awhile since I saw this error (back in the early days before 982ME existed as a script and I was still fooling around with switching the shell to ME from 98se manually...) I believe I was able to fix it by adding some of the WinME files to the system folder..shlwapi.dll? I'm not sure anymore,it might even be a different file altogether.. You might want to try and install WMP 7.1 (and or update to WMP9) if you didn't\haven't already? Hang around here a bit, if you can't fix it yourself with the info I gave, I'm sure that MGX (Axcel216's other name) will be around and he'll have much better insight to the problem than I ever would. --iWindoze (Who hopes he's helped in some small way if only to annouce that 'hope is on the way' <---WTF?!? I need to stop channeling Bush!)

Windows 98 PowerPack v3.0 released [details itt]
iWindoze replied to jimmsta's topic in Windows 9x Member Projects
First of all thank you so much! for sharing your hard work with us... I wanted to ask if you were missing any of the pre-beta RP4 patches for RP3.xx? If so I have some extra files for you to add if you'd like. Second I'd like to suggest that you use a more customized setup for IE6SP1...instructions on how to do so are here: [ http://www.petri.co.il/download_the_full_ie_package.htm ] If you do it this way you can choose to select on the IE6SP1 files needed for Windows 9x...which would save you some space on your ISO and allow you to either streamline your download or add more files to your iso... PS: Read your reply already..glad you've heard of it already...what do you think of trying to rip out the XP login from Calmira XP and make it work in your 98 Power Pack? -iWindoze EDIT- changed the PS... -
Heh... funny you should mention that, I just read an interesting series by Fred Langa (formerly of WinMag) on this very subject... [ http://www.winmag.com/columns/explorer/2000/11.htm ] [ http://www.winmag.com/columns/explorer/2000/12.htm ] [ http://www.winmag.com/columns/explorer/2000/13.htm ] [ http://www.winmag.com/columns/explorer/2000/14.htm ] He agrees with the rest of the posts here, but adds his explaination of a method by which you can reduce the problem and an avenue of attack in the one area where you CAN benefit from these types of utilities! Have fun reading! --iWindoze

I don't know anything about Windows Media Player 6.4, but there's a good freeware app out called Media Player Classic which has an option built in to select which image you want to display when starting up. As a bonus MPC looks and operates Very close to the way WMP 6.4 does! Download Media Player Classic from one of the mirrors here: [ http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/guliver...84.zip?download ] As for your Windows 9x to Amiga transformation, have you checked out Virtual Plastic's makeover page: [ http://www.virtualplastic.net/html/art_amiga.html ] ? They're usually a good place to start!

Not possible. If it was, then MS would have done it long ago.IE6SP2 involves huge changes to the core. Moreover, if security is what you want, then why bother with IE, use an alternative instead! <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Bah...if Security was the issue you'd remove the blasted thing altogether... and figure out a way to replace\repair the bits that 'need' IE to work...what I need a #### web browser for user administrator or for downloading updates to the OS is beyond me though...

No, No...reread my post I was using gAIM...its my sister who insisted on moving back to using MSN and Yahoo because she had the webcam...I'm still hoping the gAIM vv (or whatever the video project is called) takes off but until it does... I'm stuck on my parent's machine. --iWindoze PS: I give 'em about two years before its ready to be folded back into the project again.
-
Unfortunately none of the multi-client apps seem to support webcams or file transfers...they always seeem to crap out when trying to do a transfer in gAIM at least, and while I know there's a project to make gAIM have the ability to use webcams its not there yet (especially for those of us in Win32) I recently had to give up and let mys suster switch from gAIM to MSN IM and Yahoo IM when she got her webcam. --iWindoze

<{POST_SNAPBACK}> I am 65% addicted to Porn. What about you?
-
Well based on the stats you've given I'd recommend slaping on Windows 98 using 98Lite or ROM II (Revenge of Mozilla) and using it with the 95 shell..really any Microsoft OS after Win95b is going to have built in support for most of those specs...

Dumb a** question I know...but has anyone just boted with something else and tried copying over the updated mshtml.dll and other associated files? Just curious...
