  1. If you have a spare box lying around, could you try installing the utility to see if it is hardware dependent or whether it works in software only? If this could be hacked to work independent of your Toshiba hardware it would make a valuable addon for anyone seeking to update Win9x.... --iWindoze
  2. Sorry? I don't understand your question. Agreed! I often dig up old threads to check if there has been any progress made on the various subject matters. Also for when I am unable to try something out at the time I see if and must wait for a chance to try something on a spare box... --iWindoze
  3. This link is broken. Does anyone have this file or more information on this method? --iWindoze
  4. Link is broken. How do you update to the latest release again? --iWindoze
  5. Have there been any updates on this? Version .002? Or have any such projects ever actually completed? --iWindoze PS: I managed to slip the unoffcial SP for Win98SE using the method posted by reno7, but still saw some errors in the actual install, though they mostly seemed to revolve around the ISPs (like AOL and MSN, etc) and did not seem to cause any actual issues while installing except redundent error messages like the one about missing amsn.dll or some such.... Has anyone made any progress since?

  7. Sure but that's how I feel about this thread. Then aren't you the lucky one? Just think, there's multiple forums on this site! Absolutely no need for you to haunt the Win9x forums and b***h and complain at people who enjoy the older systems.... Hell you could spend all your time p***ing off the Windows XP users by telling them all to rush out and upgrade to Vista-- you'll certainly get a better reception than you are here, that's for sure! Here's a hint: We already know there are alternatives to Win9x, we already know. The secret is this: We like Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows 98SE... s***, there are even people here who like Windows Millennium... Now if you aren't capable of understanding that, then I'd say the Windows 95/98/98SE/ME section of MSFN isn't for you, so kindly go and f*** yourself if you don't like it when we get enthused. --iWindoze (profanity used for emphasis) PS: BenoitRen? Congrats on the find! Much better than the couple of Win98SE cds I was given by a friend of the family who works with older machines at a charity. He said the machines are all running a mix of Windows 2000 and XP now so they're redundant. I'd try selling a few of them (they're unopened OEM versions) but unfortunately the CD keys that came with them were already detached and stuck to the side of the machines, even though the media was never actually used. You at least got an unused key out the deal!
  8. Well I lied... No actually what happened is I found some of the drivers I've been looking for and thought I'd give installing them a quick spin to see if they'd fix some of the problems I've been having... no dice. I did a screen grab before I tossed my XP back on though, so here's your answer in the image I attached. And no, before you ask I have no idea how I managed to get such a high version number installed! --iWindoze
  9. I'll throw my image of the 98SE autopatcher install back on the drive later tonight and check. I'd do it now but I'd prefer to maximize my online time over swapping the OS, checking one file and then swapping back to XP.... That said, I think chances are this was caused by me using the GAPE SP2.1a "slipstream" install of 98SE before running your autopatcher. Of course, its also possible the file may have been changed via a driver installed before the autopatcher? I'm off to hunt down some drivers for the laptop again... I can't really get anything but 2000\XP drivers for this thing from Dell's site so I must hunt down by manufacturer... Can you say "FU--!" err..I mean Fu...n? --iWindoze
  10. Okay, I finally bit the bullet, backed up my WinXP nLite install and decided to give installing Win98SE on my Dell Inspiron 5100 another whirl... First I killed the WinXP partition and formatted myself a FAT16 partition with second partition for Applications and Temp folders, which I intend to do later after I figure out a few more things. I had already copied over the Win98 setup folder and extracted the files from the SP2.cab from GAPE's Unofficial service pack to the install folder. Once I had everything the way I wanted I used my BartPE cd to copy things to the new partition and started things from the MAD boot disk (on the Ultimate DOS boot cd) and let Windows 98 install. Things went well at that point only giving me some headaches when I came to the PCMCIA section of the driver detection. Whatever... Then once I managed to boot into Windows--the lovely blue screen complained to me about drivers, so I restarted into safe mode and installed the chipset drivers from Dell and the Omega Radeon Drivers for Win9x. It was around that point I realized I had no cdrom. ARGHH!!! I went ahead and installed the Autopatcher v1.8 BETA from my E: drive, which is where I keep my 'My Documents' pointed at in all my Windows installs. The thing took only half the promised millennium to install to the default installation path, but made up for everything when the program itself ran, so I don't feel too gypped. Things went rather smoothly (AFAIK) from that point on, there only being a few complaints about newer files already having been installed (from using the SP2 Windows 98SE slipstream install method) and I had to ask it to retry installing the FTP update twice before it managed to install properly (again, AFAIK).. Over all I thought it went pretty good. I'll be tinkering around with the Windows98SE install later on and seeing if I can get some of the supposedly WinNT5.x drivers to install any way, I'm back in Windows XP for now... Thanks for the work you've done putting this thing together! My install log is attached to this post! I hope it helps! --iWindoze PS: I almost forgot, when ever I wanted to select more options the code always made me re-toggle the selection, is this a feature or a bug? I_Result.log.txt
  11. So umm.... Any updates on what's going on Gape? --iWindoze
  12. Sorry but I must beg to differ on that! There's xplorer², which has a Pro and a free version: http://zabkat.com/ There's Explore2fs, which can also read Linux files systems: http://www.chrysocome.net/explore2fs There are also GXExplorer, and Dimension Shell File Manager... If you search around a bit, I'm sure you'll be able to find more! --iWindoze
  13. Do you know if Fred put this on site yet? I've been waiting for him to do so before I start trying to tinker with Win2000 again... --iWindoze
  14. Thanks, I appreciate it! Please let me know what you dig up, if anything. I understand what you're saying here jasinwa, but to be honest I don't think I've started a single topic in the NT forums since they added the new posting format for fear of getting flamed if I don't post things exactly right. As for the other reasons why I chose the Win9x forums, that's because I figured the people in the Win9x forums would be intrigued by the possibilities, what with the kernel project and misc other total conversion projects, whereas the people in the NT forums would simply tell me to buy MCE2005. --iWindoze
  15. Sorry it took me so long to get back to you guys on this! I went to visit my parents for the holiday and ended up doing an install of XP on their box...not that big of a deal really even though it'd be considered a lowend box today I was able to use nLite to reduce the size of the footprint the OS was taking, however I really REALLY missed having my personal Black Viper archive with me, so the first thing I did when I got back was upload the archive to my personal rapidshare account! Next time I go visit the Black Viper Services Guide will be a mere download away! http://rapidshare.de/files/18454178/BlackViper.com.rar This is the entire BlackViper website that I made an archive of shortly before he disappeared. Hopefully there will be others who will find this useful, especially given this archive contains his SP2 configurations and explainations of why he disables certain services. --iWindoze (hoping that this is indeed useful to people)
  16. No one has any ideas? --iWindoze
  17. Here are some mirrors...just because Tihiy is such a cool guy and I loved RP\RPLite so much when I used it in the past... RPLite 3: http://www.zshare.net/download/rplite3-zip.html http://www.megaupload.com/?d=63YI7AI1 http://www.gimehost.com/iWTMup7edROqhjaiPrTK http://media6.uploadjar.com/file.php?file=...ads/rplite3.zip http://www.yourfilelink.com/get.php?fid=74933 RPLite 4: http://www.zshare.net/download/rplite4-zip.html http://www.megaupload.com/?d=Z0Y2BATD http://www.gimehost.com/zoChylugZlOMt6j1XVAn http://www.yourfilelink.com/get.php?fid=74931 http://media6.uploadjar.com/file.php?file=...ads/rplite4.zip You should be able to get the files from one of these sites at least... --iWindoze (back with a splash!)
  18. Hi guys! I was wondering if anyone here with inf experience could tell me whether or not it would be possible to isolate the files needed from the Win98SE or WinME cabs and use infs (like the ones created by 98lite?) to build an installer for WebTV that would make it run in Windows NT5.x? Ideally I'd see this as a way to make a Media Center Edition type hack with various icon patches and so forth... Has anyone attempted this before? I know that its possible to take the files from WinME and make Windows Movie Maker run in Windows 2000, so technically I'd imagine that tis SHOULD be possible... Any ideas? Note: MCE isn't possible due to my TV card being unsupported. Actually I'm not even sure if this would be an upgrade considering that since I'm using my RCA\SVideo jacks from DirecTV to get cable...but I've not had ANY success with this type of thing using my Hauphauge WinTV Radio card and the TV blaster regardless of what OS I'm in...heck half the time the WinTV remote tries to take over my DirecTV box! --iWindoze (hoping that someone has some ideas here) PS: If this should be in the Windows NT based section I apologize.. pls move it there! PPS: I'm cross-posting this from OSBetaArchive in hopes of getting a bigger audience for this question (and hopefully more likelyhood of getting an solution!)
  19. Wonderful! Mostly I need the Yahoo IM for webcam--we're both Deaf and like to sign back and forth to each other. gAim still hasn't goteen any webcam support yet (IIRC since the last time I checked two weeks ago). Thanks for the updates wrt Hauupauge WinTV and Skype! --iWindoze
  20. Skype Hauppauge WinTv 2000 Yahoo Instant Messenger --iWindoze (who really doesn't love Yahoo IM all that much, but needs it to keep in touch with his sister) PS: When can I (or anyone else beta test?)
  21. I have an HTTRACK archive of the site shortly before it went down...its 28.6mbs RAR'd--I can post it if anyone is interested? --iWindoze
  22. I've said: So: you better should not install WMF patch because it installs updated gdi* files. Please post next time with RP (Lite) questions to RP (Lite) thread. P.S. RP4 is crap. Powerful crap. Okay I see it I'll be moving my parents to eiher Win2000 or Linux come my next visit home. Id rather do Win2000 than Linux for the simple reason that Linux needs too many updates and on dial up they're a real pain. You better get on with that Windows 2000 pack, right? unless that's some powerful crap too? Thanks for the answers though. -iWindoze PS: powercrap and lack of updates is why I'll be moving them to 2000 (in case anyone was about to ask me why I'd do that...)
  23. I think you misunderstand... I install 98SE2ME, THEN your Revolutions Pack... NOW I want to patch WMF vulnerability. NOT reinstall 98SE2ME over RP4. --but hey since you say RP will not help my system and think it is so bad I should reformat; then I will do that. [shouts to the whole world] Hey everybody even Tihiy says his RP is crap! Or did I misunderstand you like you misunderstood me? --iWindoze
  24. Which of the unofficial patches work best on a 98SE2ME installation that was haX0red with Tihiy's Revolutions 4.0 pack?
