  1. Nope, it did not boot up on either attempts. It can turned off for DAYS and what every I was doing last on it will still be on. Like few days ago I was uninstalling something and firefox was open and just today I got it to turn on and firefox was still open and on a website. I can pull the battery out and keep it out and keep it unplugged and it still remembers the last thing I was doing. I don't know.. it's strange.
  2. It's not the plug.... if it was the plug then the laptop should turn on with a fully charged battery. Doesn't matter if it's plugged in or on a battery. Theres only one way to start it now, which is to hold the power button and take out the battery and put it back in while holding the power button and then it will start.
  3. New Problem: I can now turn the laptop on every time by holding the power button down while taking the battery out and putting the battery back in while holding the power button down. Doing this will turn the laptop on. Also the fan like never every comes on so I don't know if that's a related problem or not. I'm also thinking it could be something to do when the computer sleeps or something. I reinstalled the operating system and now it seems to restart with out shutting down like before. I have no idea whats going on. Theres just so many factors if the problem that it is hard to diagnose. But I am thinking that is something to do with a failed circuit or capacitor.
  4. Okay, I might just get the 640gig because it's only like 10 dollars more than the 500gig and I'm getting 140 gigs more!
  5. Alright then, Maybe I wont partition it, But was this the 640gig or the 500gig one? This sounds like the best and one of the cheapest solutions.
  6. Yeah, I have but the reviews seem kind of disappointing. I have been thinking just to get this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16817145167 and get like a 500gb hard drive or the 640gb hard drive and use that. Then I would partition it in half and then I have two 320gb drives But the only thing I am worried about is it getting two hot and over heating. Thats one of my main concerns. I'm also worried about the power connector coming loose too. since this drive will be on ALL the TIME I need something that is going to last, you know what I mean?
  7. Thanks for your help. I think I am just going to reinstall the operating system as well. Right now I been turning it on and off and it's been working fine. I'll keep an eye on it, I been stress testing it. I wrote this using the laptop and as you can tell it's working. But I think I will do some more diagnostic testing on it. Thanks again. EDIT The laptop will not even turn on now, No mater what I do. I think the best that I can do is get their data off their laptop and put it in a cd and say sorry theres not much that I could do. Thanks for your help anyways, I will be trying a couple more things before I give up, but I think it's done for.
  8. This is one of the most strangest problems I have ever come by before. The owner bought this laptop around 3 years ago, used it for about a year and then it just died. It was the battery, so they got a new one and it worked for a few months and then it just died. The warranty ran out and so they brought it to Geeksquad at Bestbuy and they couldn't even fix it and charged them a outrageous price! ($150) The owner is my uncles sister, so my uncle told her about me and said I can most likely fix it and when he brought it to my house, I got the laptop running in about 20 minutes. The first time it didn't turn on, I took out the ram and reseated it opposite slots and it worked! Restarted the laptop, didn't work again. Did the ram change and reseated it, didn't work. Took the CPU out and reseated that, worked. Restarted the laptop, didn't work. Took the battery out and put it back in, worked. Plugged in the AC adapter, still working Restarted, started up successful. Restarted, went into the BIOS, ran test and reset the battery. It took about 10 hours to reset the battery and every since then it's been working great, until this morning. I just restarted it after doing some updates and it wouldn't want to start again. Took the battery out, put it back in, didn't work Took the battery out, plugged in the AC adapter, didn't work. Put the battery back in, started up successfully. This is very confusing, I have no idea what is going on with it. Right now I thinking it is over heating cause it does get pretty hot but it never crashed. This morning it was sleeping and I went to go use it and you have to hit the power button to turn it back in and it always have turned on from that, but this time it didn't even work, it just turned off. Right now it setting beside me and it's up and running. Anyone know whats happening? There can be so many reasons, just wanted some help. Thanks!
  9. Well I have decided just to use a external hard drive for now. I have already chosen the hard drive, http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16822136073 But I been trying to find a really good external enclosure for it and I just can't find one that looks pretty and is reliable. So i'm asking what you guys use for external enclosures and if you like them or what not. Thanks.
  10. I use Godaddy. They been really good to me so far.
  11. Well I just wanted to tell you all that I got my new bag and I love it! Here's a picture of it: I really like it, it's very strong and it holds all my tools that I need on a job.
  12. Thats sweet! This is the one that I have: I like it, It works pretty great and it was cheap. By the way I took the photo of my own
  13. Well I don't have many tools. I only got a RJ-11/45 Crimper, Coax Crimper, cheap punch down tool, all in one wire stripper, my awesome electrician screw driver and some connectors, wall plates and a couple old construction boxes. I just needed something that would keep them all together so I'm running all over the place to find them! But it will work great for me! I'll take a picture when I get it next week
  14. It depends on how much you want to pay. I best one I can find is http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16814102730
  15. I decided to get this bag http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_12605_00937535000P It should cover all my needs!
  16. Nah i'll just put my hard drive in the dooms day vault, haha. I could use my old hardware from my current system but i'm not too sure yet. I may just end up buying the HP MediaSmart Server just so I don't have to worry about it, plus it's sexy XD
  17. That looks like that would work! They are only $14.99? if so, that's cheap! works for me!
  18. Haha...Well just so you know I am going to buy a hard drive and backup my music and give it to my mom to bring to work. That way I have a off-site backup Yeah I was going to say around $650 for the budget but i'm not a 100 percent sure, I just wanted some ideas. I think the best thing to do right now is buy a good hard drive and put all that on it for now and then figure out what to do. You guys gave me some good ideas, which I thank you for that. but all I know is that this is going to have to be done like really soon. If anything I will build a new desktop and then buy/build file server with raid set up at the same time.
  19. This question is for all the network technician geeks (including my self ) I have like a ton of tools, wire, and other stuff that I normally bring with me when I am setting up networks at homes, some are very simple and some I put boxes in the walls. My question is, what do you use to store all this gear? I my self is thinking to use a electrician bag. But I wanted to know what everyone else uses to haul their gear from place to place.
  20. Simple. Storing my Photos and Music. That's really it. But I want it to be safe, secure and reliable.
  21. I'm not too sure yet, there some good possibilities. But I think the best one for me is to get the HP MediaSmart Server with the 1.5TB of storage. Plus I can always upgrade it later. Or had some USB hard drives or what not. The Price isn't bad, but it is a little bit on the high side. I almost would think it would be better to get like a NAS or a external HDD with like eSata or something. Or the other thing that I could do is build a new file server and at least have some sort of raid set up so if a hard drive fails for some reason I wont lose my data that took for ever to back up. I'm mainly worried about my Music because I have a large sum of it that took a while to build up. So I really wanted my music to be on a raid set up. My photos I am not too worried about because I can always back them up to a back up site, but most of my photos get uploaded to Flickr anyways, but it would better if I could have it on a raid set up. Correct me if I am wrong as thinking off the top of my head, isn't there a external hard drive cluster that has a raid set up? Meaning it's only that... no operating system like the HP MediaSmart Server.
  22. I getting really low on storage and my data is not backed up at all currently. Since I have a lot of music and photos, I need a good amount of storage and I was thinking to go with the HP MediaSmart Home Server for around $650 with 1.5TB of storage. But I am wondering if anyone else has any really good storage solution's? My Budget is around $600-675. - Networked - At least a TB of space - Raid Setup - The Ability to add additional drives. Thats why I thought about getting the HP MediaSmart Server because it suits all my needs but If I can get away with less money that would be better. Since I am very low on money currently. Thanks guys.
  23. Yeah! I recommended one of these neat computer work stations for my tech center, but they didn't have it in their budget, but they could afford 6 Cisco 1840 routers.
