  1. I'm jumping on the bandwagon, with a minimalistic banner. 98se2melogo.bmp
  2. As a member of the SomethingAwful forums, I can tell you why ImageShack sucks... one of the lead guys, who goes by the name "Macbeth", decided to ban any referring links from forums.somethingawful.com, which meant that thousands of images went missing over the last weekend... The forums admin and he reached an understanding, which led to all those missing images being copied onto SA's image server, and all the links had to be reset to point to SA's server. Since then, some members have started up a distributed image hosting system, which is currently in the alpha stage, which will offer free image hosting for the SomethingAwful forums in the future.... As for imageshack, they've gone downhill, and the amount of marketing that occurred on SA for it has been astronomical - Macbeth kept using the forum's IMG/URL BBCode tags to promote his website... which isn't normally a problem, except when THOUSANDS OF IMAGES point to the same URL.
  3. I used to download linux iso's, so 625MB x2, for redhat and such... that was WAY back... I've had broadband since September 17th, 2001...
  4. Any updates? I've got a system that's been running with this for the past 2 months, no problems at all. Great conversion app!
  5. Hmmm... I think I'm done at attempting to get uxtheme working under win2k. Your project is amazing, even if it isn't complete, it sure has a lot going for it. I'll be keeping my eye on this project.
  6. I have no idea why I pondered all that - I KNOW that 98SE2Me includes these fixes, yet I still pondered it. It's been a long month...
  7. Main Download link: http://www.majorgeeks.com/BHT_d4855.html [RAR, 278MB) DIGG Link: http://digg.com/software/BHT_v2.6_Released...r_Tools_Package - Please Digg this if you download! - (Bigpeeler did! :v: ) BHT v2.60 See the old v2.5 thread for more info: http://forums.somethingawful.com/showthrea...hreadid=1799370 What is it? It is a tools compilation for all computer users. It has various tools (most of which can be outlined in the old thread), as well as a bunch of new tools. Why do I want it? If you've ever had computer problems of any sort, or think your system is experiencing problems, or are just curious, BHT can serve you both meat and potatoes - There's tools for every aspect of computer problems and diagnostics. Wait, what? BHT will help you out in dire times of need. It is a computer toolkit. Where can I download it? From my personal webspace: http://bht.jimmsta.com/rel/BHT2.60.rar From MajorGeeks: http://www.majorgeeks.com/BHT_d4855.html What's NOT included? Any Sysinternals tools, by default. If you want them, you'll have to run a batch file script located in the 'AUP/get_sysints/' directory, which will download a personal copy of their tools and auto-install them, as well as replace the html pages with updated pages that contain links to the applications. What about BHT EXTENDED? Extended v1.1 will work fine, with a patch, which is available here: http://bht.jimmsta.com/rel/BHT_Extended_v1.2patch.zip (172KB) - extract this into your Extended directory, and follow the updated instructions. BHT Extended v1.1 can still be downloaded here: http://newsite.technicianx.com/BHT/Extended_v1.1.exe So... I don't see x on the list of programs... If you don't see a program on the list that you rely heavily on, post it here. I'll try my best and include it in the next release, just for you. Will this help with spyware removal? Yes. All common tools that everyone recommends are included, as well as several small specialized utilities for removing certain infections. Will this help with virus removal? Yes. I've included several virus removal utilites, as well as free antivirus installers. Are there any apps in the compilation? Yes, there's many applications, including the latest version of Firefox, and Java. What's included? If you have any questions, comments, or complaints, please feel free to post them here. Recommend any apps you want added. edit: fixed the bold titles that should have been standing out - easier to read...
  8. GeoShell might be a viable alternative - allows skinning of taskbar and such as well. I'm working on a project to get XP's theming engine into Win2k, without much luck. I've managed to corrupt 3 virtual machines so far. luckily, I keep some form of a worklog as to what I've changed... A heavily customized GeoShell might be the answer to all our problems.
  9. Hrm... WinME basically is a buggy patch for Win98SE. 98SE2ME enables you to use updated system files from WinME, with the added stability that the Win98SE kernel offers. Essentially, through all my testing, 98SE2ME is a LOT more stable than WinME itself. Actually, I wonder if it would be possible to take this service pack and dump its contents onto the WinME CD, then use it as the source for 98SE2ME, so you get all the latest updates for WinME included with Win98SE. (You'd probably have to manually do all the killer replacements, as I believe MDGx's scripts are all CAB-File based, and aren't looking for individual files on the CD)
  10. I've editted the installer to run Defender on SP1/0... it works, somewhat, but autoupdates do not work.... And of course, I've removed the need for a WGA check to be performed... I'm just saying that it's possible to remove these checks and let the program run...
  11. In that case, expect the next version of the Win98/Me PowerPack in May or June... I'm not going to release anything new until then. BTW, I have yet to have any issues with the SP, on NEW installs. Old installs of 98SE, which have been patched with random patches over the years, tend to be unruly when it comes to the SP. Then again, I really haven't had a good enough sample size to even justify my findings...
  12. Great app... I finally have an extremely stable XP-64-style system.
  13. unofficial ME service pack is currently for English edition of ME, not for German edition. do not use if you dont have the english version of ME. Sorry, I should have been a bit more... descriptive. I was doing something that we call a drop - a ghost image with English Windows Me. It worked fine with the service pack - in a VMWare machine ... The customer's machine that I mentioned... well, it didn't get the service pack, because I figured it wasn't compatible at all... except I think I did something a bit more I did an install on top of the old version of Me, which was German, with an English version. The system wouldn't fully install... So, I ended up taking the backed up registry from before I tried installing it on top, and dropped that into place. I also grabbed a copy of the German Explorer.exe file, and the system worked fine....albeit, very strange -- a system with both English and German text labels, working perfectly with applications and such. I won that battle.
  14. I'll test it out today... I'm doing an OS drop on a buggy system, to try and figure out if the hardware is ok (ACPI problems and Soundcard issues - system came in with German Windows Me). Hope this works... if not, I'll just ghost my bare Me Image back on and try again.
  15. Just wondering if it's worth it for me to try and get this working on newer builds? I'll be installing VirtualPC just for this reason...
  16. Development has begun again. Now, I need the following: Every single variant of the unofficial servicepack. (Languages). I have almost all of theme, except for French. I can only read so much (I know very little french). I need every variation of all available patches. I want to create a CD with ALL languages supported, which has been a big request from some people. I want to slim down the size of the CD. I don't want another 350-ish ISO. Something along the lines of 250-300mb is where I want it to be. I may be creating a simple selector interface that allows for language selection -> language-specific packages. Either that, or I'll be compiling different Language-oriented versions of the Win98 PowerPack. Any questions/comments, please post in this thread!
  17. Dude, a whole month has almost passed us by, where can I get a download link? If a download link is not possible can someone who has it already at least seed a tracker and post the torrent in this forum? Link put back up. I'm working on v3.5... it's a side-project for me, as I maintain something called BHT, a utility compilation, which is available here: http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4855 I've begun work on v3.5 again today... i'm working towards a April 1st release (not a joke). I'm not sure if I'm going to keep the UI that I currently have, or dump it for a new ui. .... This brings up a good question - should I dump the current autorun in favor of a smaller, less-bloated approach, or should I stick with the current autorun?
  18. Awesome! I just re-started work on the Win98 PowerPack, and will be expanding it to include WinMe patches as well. I'm off to test this out on a VMWare install of Me... if I can find my installation CD, that is... Great job!
  19. I'm not done with the latest release. The current thing that I'm trying to go after is managing different languages - right now, the powerpack is ONLY english. I'm hoping to get as many other languages in the pack, so ANYONE can download it and be satisfied. Download links will be set back up later today/tommorow, for v3.0. v3.5 is not done yet.
  20. not NEVER... I think that the majority of people that try this out either has good results, or disasters like this. Unofficial doesn't mean bad... it just means non-production quality, and possibly also alpha-quality bugs... It's a luck of the draw, I guess. (Although it seems that most people DO NOT HAVE A PROBLEM with the pack).
  21. I too, have not had any problems on it, and have installed it on several virtual pc's, and Pentium 133-through Celeron 2.0GHz machines. I have yet to have any problems like emarkay.
  22. You have to realize - This pack is unofficial for a reason, and it may not work for everybody. This is true for most unofficial patching projects. Saying "Thanks - for nothing" is just pointless - it is entirely your fault, your curiosity, that your system is screwed up. If it didn't work the first time, and you had your drivers installed (IAA), and you still had issues, it's probable that your system will not work with the unofficial patch. The fact that Petr & erpdude8 took time out of their day for you, and all you can say is thanks for nothing, well, you have a lot to learn about this community, and how hard it is to patch things that Microsoft left for dead. It isn't a guaranteed fix, and isn't waranteed under any warantee. You cannot expect an unofficial patch to fix your problems. If anything, you can expect anything unofficial to screw something up - it wasn't made by the original proprietor, and thus, might have problems with some hardware.
  23. Whoa... holy crap. I didn't expect for something like that to happen... I think I'll stay away from that file for now...
  24. I'm working on it, slowly but surely. It currently weighs in at 172MB uncompressed, which is a great deal smaller than v3.0. I do need to get it out the door asap, as I actually use this with many old systems @ work, and using the USP v2.0 probably isn't a good idea... I think older machines benefit from the latest updates. So, I figure, I'll try and push for a release Next Week.
  25. I'm going to try again with a new install. for now, I really don't think it has anything to do with 98se2me. It's probably something to do with my way of installing things... On a completley different topic, I was wondering if you've tried getting the Windows Me program "tuneup.exe" working on a 98se machine? The dependencies are listed if you try running the executable in WinXP. It seems that tuneup.exe contains a few reg entries, and a script file that runs scandisk, disk cleanup, compression agent, and disk defragmentor. The file itself is tagged as being copyright 1998, but has the WinMe name. as far as I can tell, the program itself was kept hidden, and unused... or at least, I've never seen it run...
