  1. Holy crap. I wonder if something like LiteStep or blackbox would work without adding much bloat... time for me to try this out.
  2. This has been my choice, as if you also have 7zip installed, you can easily unzip the package anyway. - I've already set up an NSIS script, and have tested it on a 98SE install. It works fine, and is still geared towards whoever wants to use my package. No, it will not be out today. I'm waiting on the Unofficial Windows Me Service Pack, which, unless released by Friday, will not be included in this release... I just wanted to release this sooner than later.
  3. I've created a June 2006 directX installer, and have tested it. It's just slimmed down a bit from the official download available @ microsoft. All NT components have been removed... as an SFX, it's 33mb compressed. It will be included in the Win9x Power Pack compilation. Also: Where can I get the last beta of the WinMe Unofficial SP?
  4. I'm looking for the_guy's last release of the Unofficial Windows Me Service Pack... Aside from that, and a few missing things in the autoplay, the compilation is done.
  5. I'll probably distribute the final build as a zip file, which will include an autoplay menu. If the demand for a 7zip archive is strong, I'll up it as a separate download. At the current moment, the near-complete package is 218mb uncompressed, but it is mostly compressed items, so no matter what compression format I choose to use, the size difference will probably be negligible. I hadn't thought of that when I created this thread. I really wasn't sure how much the dist. could be compressed, and at the moment, the answer to that question is 'not much'. I almost used INFex, but it doesn't do everything that I want it to do. I'd love to use NSIS, but then I'd have to create some helper apps, and it would take a few more months to get it out the door.
  6. I find 98SE2Me to be user-firendly enough. It's not intended for the majority of users, just the advanced power user that isn't worried about screwing up their system... Console apps own.
  7. I'm burning a copy at the moment, to test tommorow @ work. I hardly see any Windows Me systems, but most people still have 98SE boxes, so I tend to use my CD every once in a while... Looks like the only thing I'm missing is the_guy's unofficial Windows Me Service Pack. I'll see about hosting the file on a box @ work - use edonkey and bittorrent at first, then use other hosting methods.
  8. I've tried XP x64, and I liked it - it is based on Windows 2003 Datacenter edition (x64), and very efficient. Only problem was that my color laser printer was not compatible in the very least. I got rid of it due to the fact that I could not PRINT. What I don't get is the fact that any other x64-based OS will work fine with my printer (Samsung CLP-510, rebranded Xerox Phaser 6100). Heck, MacOSX x86 works out of the box with the printer, so I know it's not some random fluke. - What this says about 32-bit apps running on x64 is that DRIVER SUPPORT IS LIMITED. I guarantee that most printers will NOT have new x64 drivers available in time for Vista x64's release. Seeing as Vista 32bit is currently able to make XP drivers compatible with it, I think Microsoft may have figured out a way around the driver support issue. Hardware & driver support is what makes X64 a non-viable platform for consumers. It's great for developers that are writing apps for Vista x64, but for the average user, it's just not worth the pain. On the good side, XP x64 did run Doom3 about twice as fast on my gaming rig...
  9. The Different versions will come out after the English edition. There's no way that I'll be able to complete a mutilanguage version in time.
  10. I'm guessing that you believe it should be available to everyone, on one of the most-used networks. I could see doing that. I'm working on getting this released THIS WEEK. In honour of the end of support from Microsoft.
  11. By The way, the latest compiled edition is 219mb, without the_guy's Windows Me SP. I'm waiting on that, then I'll see about the final size of the package (uncompressed).
  12. As I prepare for a release, I need to find out what sort of packaging people would want the compilation to be available in. If you're not sure, select that option. (For more info, take a look at the old v3 topic: http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=57352, or take a look at my website here: http://www.jimmsta.com/)
  13. not possible by using XP's explorer exe - it references too many ntdll functions that aren't implemented in W9x kernels, as well as a heavily modified theme/scheme engine. If you're desparate, use Tihy's Revolutions Pack v5/6, which is currently available as a Preview. You can also create your own skins. (See sticky at top of this forum).
  14. Just the english edition is looking like it will weigh in at 230mb uncompressed. I'm including: IE6.0SP1 - repacked installation for Win9x. DX9c w/Managed DirectX (June 2006 release) - Stripped to bare minimum Various utilities (7zip for archiving, codecs for video and audio) More news to come. I'm still looking for various patches, and waiting on the_guy's WinMe Service Pack.
  15. I'm waiting on this package, so I can include it in the upcoming Power Pack.
  16. As I get closer to finishing up the new version of Windows 9x Power Pack, I need to get a list of all the available translated versions of the Unofficial service pack. If anyone would like to help compile packages of tools for each language, It would make my workload a lot less, and make it so the Multi-Language aspect of W9xPP fullfilled. I'm looking for all translations for patches, SP's, various other things, in all languages aside from English. I'd also need download links to each. I'll be needing translators for the autorun app as well - that's in the future though. Windows 9x Power Pack v4.0 depends on members of this subforum to exist. I cannot undertake a project this large by myself. It's just too much work.
  17. The next version of Windows 9x Power Pack will include a mini version of my utility compilation called BHT. You can currently download the full edition here: http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4855, but it is out-of-date at the moment (currently working on a patch alongside this project). It will include many of the tools mentioned in this topic, as well as a simple batch script that will update the definitions for Spybot, AdAware, and a few other apps, then install them. (Already exists on BHT, just needs some tweaking). And, as it seems, someone else has already created an installer-like tool to work with the PowerPack, so you can select what you want, and click Go. I'll try to work with the author of that tool to get it in to the new edition of the PowerPack - this is essentially what the OP is asking for.
  18. The new autoplay exe file is in the works. I will probably be releasing different language-oriented versions, as a multi-language version will be too bloated. I've included the dependency walker log file from the new autoplay.exe. I've switched to a much better autoplay creation studio, which allows for full customization of practically anything, and full PNG support (All logos in my autoplay's are PNGs). I've included a screenshot of my work so far: WYSIWYG - The Resolution seen in this Screenshot is the original res. Is this an autorun that has checkboxes, and a 'Go' button? I'd love to integrate that into the next release. I'd offer it as a simple installation tool. PM me. autorun.txt
  19. Funny thing is, is that I might end up trying to use AutoPatcher's interface in the next release. I'm currently collecting files for the release...
  20. Awesome news - downloading now. Now I'll be able to be prepared for what comes next...
  21. This is a concern of mine at the moment, as I have no way of knowing exactly what patches are available for each language. Someone needs to compile a list (probably will be me), to make creation of the next PowerPack easier. This is also a concern. I've already gotten the English version down to about 175mb, from something like 350mb. I'm working on slimming it down even more, and getting it all working. Other language versions will have to take a backseat while I finish up on the English version. I'll be posting a list as soon as the contents are finalized. At the moment, the download contains slightly old versions of the Win98SE Service Pack, 98SE2Me, and various other applications. I'm really waiting on Gape now for the latest version of the SP. I may include my other compilation - BHT - into the PowerPack, as it definitley helps to have a toolkit available to all users when installing various applications off the PP cd. Make sure to grab the latest version of 98SE2Me, as the version included on the CD (current edition) is very out of date. I'll be creating some sort of auto-updater for the final cd. Thanks, I will! This project is not dead, but in active development. More details will follow.
  22. This would be considered warez, which is prohibited on this board.
  23. What's the status of the next version? I'm having problems getting iTunes 4/5/6 working, it keeps crashing due to something within shell32.dll (according to the event log). I've used TweakNT to test that route out, but it didn't help, so I went back to Win2k3 Standard. Yes, I have a legal license, from a Microsoft Action Pack, that I got through work. I also cannot play some older games, such as Battlefield 1942. I'm guessing that this is an incompatibility that cannot be fixed. If I cannot figure out how to solve these problems, I'll probably throw Vista Beta 2 on the system, and see how that works...
  24. I don't trust any store that doesn't have a phone number/address listed. This site follows in that vein - no real contact information. Besides, Microsoft Does Not allow downloading of their products. In order to use their software, you're expected to have a legal licence and hard copy of media.
  25. ah, cool. Glad you like it. I used the following font: http://rapidshare.de/files/21990344/Interdimensional.ttf Here's the PSD file: http://rapidshare.de/files/21990354/98se2melogo.psd And PNG File: http://rapidshare.de/files/21990365/98SE2ME.png Font size is 17.24, centered vertically.
