  1. (edit: I misread your post the first time I wrote this. Nevermind.)
  2. Got a browser other than IE, Opera, Firefox, and Netscape? What does this gif look like on your browser? http://www.scottandmichelle.net/scott/dhtml/bothname.html IE, Opera, Firefox - Blue "Scott" Netscape - Blue "Michelle" P.S. - No, I'm not Scott.
  3. >I can't even create the pagefile. "Can't"? What exactly happens when you try?
  4. I've had that problem before, but don't know how I fixed it (if I did). I think the problem is the Google toolbar. EDIT: What version of Windows, IE, and GoogleBar do you have?

    Process toggler?

You can't permanently change it that I know of, but you can change it for the current running session of the program using the command line part of ProcessViewer.
  6. HijackThis is a good program for listing everything that runs at startup so you don't have to find it manually.
  7. Are you using a your personal computer or a company one? Another admin might have put restrictions (I don't know if this is possible).
  8. If you have a firewall, it might be causing the problem. Temporarily disable it.

    Sound recorder

Try the open-source cross-platform Audacity. It's FREE, and is the best program I have found anywhere!
  10. See this post: Start Up, missing file?, which mentions Microsoft's Q319114 If you get this error with ALL programs, post what is in your AppInit_DLLs key (HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows).
  11. He called me a "category c client" Try asking him "Where can I download you?"
  12. >You: when? >Intellibuddy: Time does not exist. >You: what time is it? >Intellibuddy: It's Now more than it ever has been before. >You: i just told you what enewsblog is! >Intellibuddy: Only just? I can't believe everything I hear online. >You: do you know what earth is? >Intellibuddy: Earth is the planet we live on. >You: who told you that? >Intellibuddy: Someone I met online. >You: tell botmaster he did a good job. (he never stopped "thinking", I had to refresh the page.) >You: Do you brush your teeth? >Intellibuddy: No I do not brush your teeth. Do you?
  13. Pretty good for a computer program! I asked him why, and he said the explanation was rather complicated. He said he has no hair, only wires. And he said he would have to search the web to find out what clouds were!
  14. If all else fails, before formatting use BootItNG to create a new partition and install a fresh install of WinXP. Make sure you set the new partition active and hide the old partition while installing so the new install won't mess up anything. Then you can unhide the old partition, boot up into the new install of WinXP and access the old partition to fix the problem.
  15. Set your BIOS setup to boot from the CD before looking for a hard drive. Your XP Recovery CD should have a Recovery Console (the repair option) which should be able to rename the dll back for you like DOS.
  16. Do you have the harddrive space available for a pagefile to exist?
  17. It doesn't? Mine does (Version 2.10.0.0). TweakUI power toy from microsoft. Under "Taskbar and Start menu" \ Grouping In the registry... Key: HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced Value (dw): TaskbarGroupSize

    Stop *new*

Where is it located in the registry... no particular place. Any key under HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT which contains a ShellNew key under it with the appropriate values will make an item appear in the New Menu. (That's why it sometimes is very slow loading. Windows is looking through all of those 11,395 keys!) Like firefoxthebomb said, TweakUI is THE program for that kind of thing.
  19. Do you have (or have you had) any spyware/adware on your computer? Try the attached reg file... [attatchment expired, PM me if you still want it]
  20. Does your computer boot in safe mode?

    Talking clock

A drunk was proudly showing off his new apartment to a couple of his friends late one night. When they made it to the bedroom, they saw a big brass gong next to the bed. “What’s a big brass gong doing in your bedroom?” one of the guests asked. ”It’s not a gong. It’s a talking clock,” the drunk replied. “A talking clock? Seriously?” asked his astonished friend. “Yup,” replied the drunk. “How’s it work?” the friend asked, squinting at it. “Watch,” the drunk replied. He picked up the mallet, gave it an ear-shattering pound, and stepped back. The three stood looking at one another for a moment. Suddenly someone on the other side of the wall screamed, “You id***...it’s three o’clock in the morning!” Plenty more...
  22. Could you post here the text of the reg file so we all know the solution?
  23. That's because your default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\$WINDOWS.~BT\WINDOWS does not match the single operating system entry two lines down. Change that line to default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS You should then only have the "Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005" option at startup. The /NOEXECUTE=OPTIN is [at least with XP Home] Service Pack 2's new DEP (Data Execution Prevention). OPTIN means DEP is on only for "essential Windows programs and services". This switch should be left the way it is. Edit... If there's something with the boot.ini it doesn't like (pointing to the wrong partition or something of the sort), it just won't boot. In that case, you can (assuming media PCs have floppy drives) use BootItNG from Terrabyte Unlimited to edit the boot.ini from DOS.
  24. Did you type the key or the passphrase (some routers have both)? Does your laptop connect if you turn off WEP (use no security at all)?
  25. Then I'm out of ideas, sorry.
