This is where mine is in the registry. I don't know what the different numbers mean. On my computer, setting the speaker setup in ControlPanel>Sounds&AudioDevices to "Desktop Stereo Speakers" set Speaker Configuration to 0x140004 and set Speaker Type to 0x2. Do you happen to have Recovery Console installed? If so, can it read your drive?

You probably have more messed up with your computer that you can't see behind that login screen.

Not setting the S attribute on the folder is probably the problem.

Not if the Error Reporting service hung. It is a separate program, dwwin.exe. I just tried it myself, made a little program to cause an app error, then shut down my program with task manager, and the Error Reporting dialog stayed on the screen. The more information link on my computer (XP Home) bring up a little window with a few details and another "technical information" link. Maybe the dwwin.exe is having a problem loading the detailed information for that IE crash. Does it hang with any app error?

I *very* rarely see an app error window, so I don't know what that "more information" link is supposed to do. Are you sure it doesn't try to open IE to go to a link and is therefore hanging because IE is the crashed app? It's just an idea.

@ChunkDog Know what "sfc /prefetch" did on my computer? Added another one: SFC.EXE-35015568.pf !! (I've got XP Home which probably works differently.)

I just installed yesterday's update for ZoneAlarm, v5.5.094. Upon reboot, I got a BSOD on vsdatant.sys. I'm just warning other ZoneAlarm users of this problem. It has been posted many times in the ZoneLabs forums, but so far they haven't taken the update down from their website. If you get the problem too, use Safe Mode to put back the previous version. I've heard that it is caused by having a custom boot screen.

I don't know. I did, and I haven't had a problem. But that isn't proof either way.

Did you install Firefox before or after SP2?

The HKCR\.iso key should contain a (default) entry which points to some other key (Mine is EasyCDCreator.DiscImage.5, but it can be anything) under *that* key should go the "Shell\Burn with Nero\Command" stuff

If you have another harddrive or enough space on your current drive, make a partition copy with the free BootIt NG program (Terrabyte Unlimited) and then install SP2. Then you can always revert back if there is a problem.

What is the file type of the file you are trying to find? It might be your word-processer that is not setup properly.

I agree. There should only be .pf files in there, so anything else can be deleted.

Do you mean change it to details view? What does your "HD/CD/Floppy view" look like?

@andrewpayne - XP Home has limited internal support for group policy. Does hj_fr have XP Home or Pro?
