  1. It helps with all systems, at least with less than a Raptor. For me, the HDD will crank more without the prefetching. Are all you're gonna do is bash prefetch? I didn't post to get crapped on.
  2. Is that with QEmu? QEmu has a bug where it slows down when you don't move the mouse.
  3. Oh man, that old placebo..... No, the trick is once Windows has recreated the prefetch files, leave them be afterwards. It's NOT a placebo. After you're done configuring, empty the prefetch folder and then reboot to have Windows recreate the prefetch files.
  4. Windows Vista now seems faster after emptying the Prefetch folder and letting Windows recreate them, just like with Windows XP.
  5. Anyone else see this occur before? That error will occur on the next desktop load and I have to click OK.
  6. I gotten STOP: 0x000001E KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED before because of overheating except mine was with Windows 2000 when playing Gran Turismo 2 with ePSXe and the duct tape came undone from the cooling duct to cool it. LOL. Thus, I would check temps and then test it with a 24 hour run of Prime95 on AC power.
  7. Not correct, it supports the nForce2 ethernet. It does with my Asus A7N8X-X. In fact, it eliminated the LNE100TX drivers! I was appalled to see that! Also, you can install the XP nForce2 drivers for the memory controller and SMbus.
  8. It's definitely enabled in the BIOS, because it appears in Device Manager and that's why Device Manager complains. EDIT: It appears to be fine now! I decided to click on the entry with the question mark and click "Uninstall" and then rescan! You must do this, even with a fresh XP installation!
  9. Anyone seen this before? I'm about to reformat and reinstall.
  10. The motherboard is an Asus A7N8X-X. When I plug in my Lexar JumpDrive flash drive in, Windows XP always gives me the message saying that the USB drive can perform faster if I plug it into a USB 2.0 port. Also, in Device Manager, I can see that there's still no USB 2.0 driver!
  11. Reminds me of when I was reading a book about PCs and saw an article about games refusing to let you play on a 486 or a game installer refuses to continue on a 486. Well it was about the fiasco of Cyrix and/or AMD K5 processors not being officially supported by Windows 95 and with the mentioned processors, Windows 95 would report the processor being a 486 to programs. Gotta love those days.
  12. This appears to be with a newly purchased HDD.
  13. In my experience, it means that the file is so corrupted that it isn't even 1 MB! *The expected file size is 316 MB*
  14. This had been a common problem with nLite in the past, but, usually only occurs when installing with the "winnt.exe" method. (from the DOS prompt) IIRC, Nuhi said that it's a Microsoft bug when installing from the DOS prompt.
  15. http://www.ocforums.com/showpost.php?p=575...amp;postcount=6 Has anyone else seen this before? It don't make sense unless it was installed motherboard older than 2002 or 2003.
  16. 0.0.0.0 usually means no connection at all.
  17. That bugcheck is almost always because of the RAM or motherboard.
  18. Reminds me of my 486 SX and Conner 240 MB HDD with AMI BIOS a long time ago. (Can't help it LOL) It was normal for that HDD to take long to be ready. Same boat, pressing the reset button allows it to be accessible.
  19. Lately it seems that Flash player is always rendering slowly with Windows 2000. The problem of Flash rendering slowly is less likely to occur with Windows XP. Did Adobe go out of their way to cripple Windows 2000 support?

  21. It's simple, Windows got corrupted. Never do a forced hard shutdown.
  22. That sounds like a used Radeon 9800 Pro I gotten in April, 2007. It would sometimes look fine and most of the time, far from fine, the majority of the time, even the BIOS screen was corrupted! It seems that reseating it solves it, but always comes back! Thus, it's looking like a possible common problem with Radeon 9800 Pros. Sorry. It may be a PCB issue! Because reseating it can temporarily solve it! But, don't even expect it to even go 1 hour before going back to video corruption. My Radeon 9800 Pro suddenly gave video corruption when all I was running was a hard disk drive utility! Warning, an alcohol cleaning probably won't change anything! I have a feeling that it's a common with Radeon 9800 Pros. Thus, I ended up getting an eVGA GeForce 7600 GS and it's still fine, AFAIK.
  23. It sounds like you have a bad connection to your CD drives. It's likely that the BIOS is reporting zero CD drives.
  24. It's corrupted! Sorry. In fact, that error message usually means that the file is corrupted by far! You likely only have a file that's not even 1 MB! Please check you internet connection. The router or ethernet controller may be bad.
