  1. This is only going to frustrate more people. This is depressing.
  2. And it looks like vLite will reject SP2, because of it not being a recognized service pack! (out of date, newer version required)
  3. May be a loose Molex connector.
  4. IIRC, I heard that Windows NT 4.0 was like this, where you're always required to install an older service pack before installing the service pack that came out after! XP SP2 wasn't like this. Looks like Microsoft eliminated the cumulative service pack concept with Vista SP2!
  5. That might be caused by having a tiny PSU. LOL. I gotten similar just from plugging another HDD with a 90 W (or about that) PSU on a 2001 Gateway LOL.
  6. "IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL" usually is your processor core generating errors. It's a classic sign of your processor core being overclocked too much or not enough vcore. You can get that error code when the Linpack test fails. (When the Intel Burn test fails when testing your CPU) In fact, I gotten that a while ago, when running Linpack, because I was required to increase the Vcore and/or CPU GTL Ref to get 2.90 Ghz on my E2180
  7. I had that problem before when I damaged my processor by chipping the core when putting the heatsink back on.
  8. I had Seagateitis. Most Seagate HDDs I have just feel slow! It started in May, 2005 when I gotten a Seagate Barracuda ST380013A 80 GB HDD. The HDD sometimes emitted a squeak when defragging and when I checked the SMART with Active SMART and HDD Inspector, they both expected HDD failure to be imminent, especially Active SMART, it reported June, 2005 being the expected failure when I got it on May 14, 2005! -> Thus, I returned it and got a Maxtor Diamond Max 9 model 6Y060P0 HDD on June 2, 2005 and that one is still healthy today, no signs of failure any time soon. B) Before Seagate bought Maxtor, Maxtor HDDs rocked, at least the ones that are NOT the slim ones, which are known as the Diamond Max 8 series. The 1999 Maxtor 91366U4 13 GB, which I purchased in late 1999, so far had no signs of failure, not even a slow spot that I could detect, even in 2008! (haven't checked it again in 2009) It was put to major service, It was in a 486 (LOL) then a K6-2 450 Mhz system I got in December, 2000 and then my first Athlon, in July, 2001 and then used as a backup HDD since July 5, 2002 and it was also attached as the secondary with my first Athlon XP, on July 1, 2003 then after upgrading (changed motherboard from Asus A7N266-VM/AA to Asus A7V8X-X)on November 6, 2003 and the same in August, 2004 (a processor and RAM upgrade on the Asus A7V8X-X)and then 2005, 2006 (upgraded to an Asus A7N8X-X) and 2007. B)
  9. Looks like ATA corruption. Likely from a bad cable.
  10. BTW, I have tried Ultimate Defrag 1.72, which is now freeware and it may be better than JKDefrag 3x! I'm looking forward to JKDefrag 4!
  11. Speed Disk was from Symantec and NOT from PC Tools.
  12. Reseat the RAM and try again. I had that problem with a Dimension 4600 and then saw one on the RAM modules not clipped in completely.
  13. Thanks for the sticky. Actually, I decided to copy wimgapi.dll myself. Mods, please delete this thread.
  14. vLite still wants me to download WAIK and when I click "Cancel" it closes. Clicking "Install" won't copy the file. EDIT: The solution, go to the C:\Program Files\Windows AIK\Tools\x86 directory and copy wimgapi.dll to the vLite folder.
  15. out of the equation. If that occurs, it's probably a bad IDE cable!
  16. A cascade of errors that came out of nowhere and when wasn't using unknown software, often means unstable hardware, likely because of the processor overheating.
  17. Sounds more like you slipstreamed service pack 3 from Windows Vista, because I'm not aware of Windows 98 messing with PIDGEN.DLL.
  18. Internet Explorer may crash if you install Flash is installed when the video driver from the GPU manufacturer or video card vendor isn't installed.
  19. The wrong disk drive (if you have PATA drives) jumper setting can cause the BIOS to take forever. I had that problem with a Gateway Essential 500 (PIII Katmai 500 mhz) and then found out that a disk drive jumper was where it wasn't supposed to be.
  20. Sounds like a stop error you can't see then a reboot. This can be seen as a sudden black screen and reboot. Especially when you overclocked too much!
  21. If Memtest86 isn't showing a faulting RAM address highlighted in red, then it may be the processor generating errors. It's not showing the usual faulting address display. The processor generating errors tends to show symptoms that are misleading, the distinction of a processor error would be mostly getting an error real early in the test and a vague one. Such as "internal error" for example. Symptoms of the processor generating errors: STOP: 0x0000009C MACHINE_CHECK_EXCEPTION -or- STOP: 0x0000000A IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL when in Windows, especially when running a 3D game. ______________________________________________ Symptoms of the RAM generating errors: STOP: 0x00000050 PAGE_FAULT_IN_NON_PAGED_AREA -or- STOP: 0x0000004E PFN_LIST_CORRUPT while in Windows, especially when you launch a defrag.
  22. Hmm, down from over a year ago, ping is better though; Cable Broadband though so its variable. Time to run some more tests, check the connection and if necessary call the ISP! That's strange. It does the same thing as my VTel (vermontel.net) DSL connection does, (sometimes) the download drops while the upload stays roughly the same!
  23. It may be a bad PCB or GPU on the video card.
  24. But, if you keep rebooting after emptying the prefetch folder, you should find that the booting is faster! *It takes at least a couple of reboots to notice.*
