Can the shell and explorer from xp be used in windows 2000? This way I will get the icons and task bar in xp to work in windows 2000. Is there a better way? I was playing around with services in windows 2000. When I rebooted all my icons were gone . Which service does that? Is there a way to enable services when the desk top cant be seen? Can someone tell me step by step how to do a repair install? Thanks

I downloaded win dvd trial. It said to lower screen resolution to 800x600 I did and dvd plays in windvd but only for 29 more days. Which kinds of codec do I need for media player 9? Would I be able to raise my screen resolution?

I just installed a new dvd rom and dvd rw in girlfriends computer. I get dvd audio in both drives but no dvd video,in both drives. She has xp sp2. In my computer I had no trouwith dvd audio or video. I have tried some codec do I need something else? I tried video lan still didnt work. Thanks

Sorry if I was vague. When I click the command to run and go through the prompts. It says FINDSTR not found. I searched what this means and it has something about string values. It hangs at that point.

If someone disabled a service they dont need what is the best way to make sure the reg entry and depency are removed pre-install? How about some files like IE etc how would the reg entry be remaved pre-install. dirt

Hello its me again. If someone just wanted to take out just the things not needed for a home enviorment with simple networking, what could be removed? Size is not a factor just want a smooth, responsive OS. Can things like DCOM, COM+ etc, and some uneeded services not needed for a home setup? Thanks
