  1. Are you all sure the problem is winsxs for Visual C++? My current install has winsxs and Windows Update removed and the resdis package (both x86 and x64) installed fine.
  2. I just received that error on my Vista x64 box. After a couple a minutes of trials and errors, the problem was the file wimgapi.dll. I used the one from the x64 version of WAIK. Maybe yours is the problem too. I attached the file to see if it works. wimgapi.rar

    How to share?

I finally managed to install Vista, but am running into some problems! The one I can't resolve (probably won't be) is that I can't share a drive over the network. I removed (naturally) the Network and Sharing Center. Is there a way to manually share? I can access the computers on the network, but I can't share! Last_Session.ini
  4. I cleared the Event Viewer of all events, started the game, checked and it was empty in all sections. XPlite is telling me my OS is not supported (caused by SP3? nLite?)
  5. I have plenty of errors in the Viewer, but none related to RA2! I'm sorry for the misunderstanding.
  6. Event Viewer is empty (or rather full of errors!). Screenshot of XP SP3 with the same config as posted above with Application compatibility patch.
  7. All my files are 5.1.2600.5512. The KB928595 is for SP2 and I have SP3. I assume I already have this hotfix? Also, the games are installed. I just can't start them. I have a black screen and crash(?) to desktop without any error or log.
  8. You are wrong mara-. The game does not start here, either the original or The First Decade. I don't know why, but somehow, the Application compatibility patch is required. Just required, you don't need to set compatibility to any older OS. Anyway, I included my ini. I am 99% sure it's this component that is causing me problem (since I tested it a while back). BTW, thanks you OuTmAn for the list. I will test it ASAP. EDIT: Doesn't work Last_Session.ini
  9. That's a real problem if I can't register them! I'll try to copy them and see if I can start the game.
  10. Hello, I am bored atm and I want to reinstall Red Alert 2. I know this game require "Application compatibility patch", but, off course, I removed it. Is there a way to reinstall this "patch"? I was thinking installing a fresh copy in a VM and copy the folder AppPatch and register the files. Or, if anyone have the folder, just give me the listing. Would that work?
  11. Service packs do not usually provide performance enhancements. However, SP2 might be the exception, notice the might be. In some cases, yes, in others, not. If I were you, I would wait a few more days to integrate SP3 (supposed to RTW Monday). At least, integrate SP2. SPs are not ONLY about security. For Windows 2000, it's up to you. For that kind of power, I would use 2000, but if you're fine with XP, it's okay too. It's just my opinion.
  12. The way you do it seems to take a LOT of time! In my case, I have a CD containing Windows XP SP2 (no post-updates). I always take that as a source and I integrate addons, updates (Xable), drivers, remove components, tweaks and unattended in one shot. Save the ini and work with it the next time I want to test something or create a new cd. Never had any problems the way I do it, nor any corruptions. To be on the safe side, I would not dot anything to a already nLited source (with the exceptions of updates). But the way you do it is fine, just takes a lot of time.
  13. I have the same problem. Never figured out what component caused this. I thought it was Local Security Settings or the Groupe Policy Console, but I guess not. I attached my session as well. Last_Session.ini
  14. Media Player Classic 6.4.9.1 (SVN revision 49) MD5: A7D1A80F74ED309282127397C7A0CA67 Information: Website Changelog: Here Size: 1.62 MB Download Media Player Classic is an extremely light-weight media player for Windows. It looks just like Windows Media Player v6.4, but has many additional features. It has a built in DVD player with real-time zoom, support for AVI subtitles, QuickTime and RealVideo support (requires QuickTime and/or Real Player), and lots more. This version is based on the work done by clsid (see website). Note: This addon is based on the work done by rado354. Thanks to him!
  15. Defraggler 1.01.068 BETA MD5: 4DC951F170F2B3E6263216D7F77C17B1 Information: Website Size: 419 KB Download From everyone here at Piriform, the company that brought you CCleaner and Recuva... we now bring you a file defragmentation tool... Defraggler! It differs from other defrag tools on the market, by enabling you to quickly and simply defrag the files you want to, without having to process the whole drive. Simply run it, select the file and defragment in seconds. No more struggling with the Windows defragmentation tool!
  16. I don't think this controller is special. If the controller is configured as IDE (not RAID nor AHCI). It should be fine. Check your dell CD, maybe in the $OEM$ folder if there is anything that is loaded during the setup. Otherwise, I can't think of more things. Sorry! EDIT: Have you tried with a vanilla XP SP2 cd?
  17. Where does this error occur? Is it just before you are prompt to select the disk/partition to install XP? EDIT: Just checked the specs for the XPS 630 and the option for the RAID is there. If you have RAID, there is your problem. You must integrate in textmode your controller drivers.
  18. Oops! I forgot the link: http://www.doitrightconsulting.net/forum/index.php
  19. @alper60: I don't remember if it has changed, but whatever the name is on the first one! I wouldn't recommend you select ACPI multiprocessor if you intend to install your copy on multiple computer (single core).
  20. Just leave it to auto and it will detect whatever cpu type you have.
  21. Yep, just take a look on this site: http://tracker.ryanvm.net/ There is also a more updated one on this site, but you'll have to register to download it (and see it!)

    N00b Qestions

Is this in a VM that you get so little memory footprint? In a VM, I always get lower footprint than in a real install. I get about 95mb with 9 services (plus explorer.exe obviously). I even remove more than you do, but fail to get a decent memory footprint...

    N00b Qestions

In your first image, selected Hardware and Drivers to REMOVE! It's totally normal that nLite removes every drivers and hardware support. If you want to KEEP them, you must NOT select them! For the hidden components, you must have selected a compatibility preset. A preset will keep the functionality you selected by hiding all the components related. If you want to see all components, don't select a preset (the compatibility tab).
  24. I can confirm this bug. Happened to me numerous times. EDIT: I uploaded my last session preset. Last_Session.ini
  25. Ok, thanks to all the answers. I am relieve to know I don't have to reformat because it would have been a real pain!
