  1. Can you please have WinXPGE write my term papers for me? I'm on spring break and don't feel like writing anything right now... Besides that, I'm not really sure what kind of suggestions you'd like...?
  2. Ah, thanks! That was what I was looking for, but couldn't remember the %XXXXXXXX% names.
  3. I've been working on a silent install for QuickTime 7.0.4, and here's what I've come up with so far. Download the standalone installer from Apple's website. Extract the Quicktimeinstaller.exe using winrar. Run the Quicktime installer. Before finishing, look in your C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Local Settings\Temp\ folders for ISScript11.Msi, QuickTime.msi, and 1033.mst. Once you get those 3 files, you can cancel the installation. Copy those 3 files to where ever you put them on your CD. In your application install batch file, use this: ECHO. ECHO Installing Quicktime 7.0.4 ECHO Please wait... EHCO msiexec /i ISScript11.Msi /qb ECHO msiexec /i QuickTime.msi TRANSFORMS=1033.mst ISSETUPDRIVEN=1 /QR ECHO. ECHO Deleting unwanted shortcuts... DEL /F/Q "C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Application Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch\QuickTime Player.lnk" DEL /F/Q "C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Desktop\QuickTime Player.lnk" It seems to wait for for QuickTime to install before moving on to the next program install (which, in my case, is KLite.exe, then SAV CE). Hope that is of some help in case the sleep thing doesn't work.
  4. Call Ghost Busters! I had a similar problem last week, a darn folder wouldn't delete. I booted into safe mode like someone above suggested, and was able to delete the folder.
  5. Interesting. The latest version of my disc I've been working on hangs at the 31 minute spot for about 5-10 minutes, then continues installing. It never used to do that on my previous version. Also, I use Nero 6 and always burn using the Track-at-once. If I use disc-at-once, I always run into problems. *Edited for poor grammar*
  6. That's how I learn. I've fried three harddrives (that weren't mine), one motherboard (that was mine), and one stick of memory (also mine). The only good news is that the mobo and memory were still under warranty as I had purchased them 6 months prior to frying them.
  7. You keep mentioning nVidia. Any chance us ATI folks will be supported in XPGE?
  8. Didn't know the first tip. Thanks!
  9. Just an update: I called Linksys Support. The guy said he'd e-mail me the RMA number. It never came. So I went to the RMA section on their site, typed in all my info, and it comes back saying my case number does not exist. On a side note - I went to hook up a wireless person for someone I know and they bought a Linksys WRT54G. A few days later, they call me saying that the router keeps kicking them off. I was thinking; is it that Linksys has a sneaky setting so that only computers with Linksys adapters will stay connected? If that is the case, I am definately looking into the other routers that you folks have posted. I understand some people swear by Linksys, and there is nothing wrong with that. But I'm just so disappointed....
  10. In no way are you putting this project down, yet your response to likwit's post: is "highly doubted." Why isn't everyone supportive of each other? I don't get it. If I want to hear a bunch of children bickering, I'll visit the nearest childcare center. To those who are working to make Windows better for us users -- no matter what project you have -- many thanks. Keep up the great work. And that's all I'll say. I'm done.
  11. My 2 cents: Of course there are going to be problems. That's what the Beta testers are there for. To find problems, and to find solutions to those problems. I don't understand what all the fuss is about concerning the missing DLLs, for example. When you write an english paper, do you turn in your first and only draft? Or do you go over it again and again and again, fixing mistakes and making sure the paper says exactly what you are trying to say? It seems to me like XP GE is just another english paper; it's going to need lots of critiquing, but in the end it will turn out just the way Aegis wanted it (hopefully, atleast!). As for why is another version of XP needed - why does one need AIM, MSN Messenger, GAIM, etc? Why so many? Why is there Reebok, Nike, New Balance, etc? We aren't robots and we all certainly don't like the same things. Variety is good. It helps keep the creative juices flowing. We all have different needs. I'm sorry, I just thought it was a bit disrespectful for people to come into this thread and whine about "why is GE needed" or "but it's missing lots of DLLs". No one says you will have to use GE. If you're interested, you'll be able to get it I'm sure and try it out. And if you don't like it, you don't have to use it. It's as simple as that.
  12. I'm using the Ralink Wireless Utility that comes packaged with the drivers for my Zonet adapters. I did call Linksys today (after waiting on the phone for nearly an HOUR) and the guy said he'd e-mail me the RMA number. I haven't gotten the e-mail yet. If I don't get it in the next 24 hours, I'll try again.
  13. I like XP. Can't believe MS is releasing 8 different versions. That's really annoying. That's like George Lucas releasing a gazillion different versions of Star Wars on DVD. I'm broke! Thanks, Uncle George.
  14. I did replace the firmware; multiple times. Same thing - everyone got kicked off.
  15. I'm broke, but I'm desperate. Nothing over $100 for a router! Haha. I noticed that the drivers were updated in January for the adapter. I really like the utility that comes with the drivers, too. Much better than Windows XP!
  16. I bought a Linksys WRT54G wireless router back in August '05. I had heard great things about the router and I needed to upgrade from my 802.11b Netgear router. I get the router, but am too busy with work and school to set it up until a couple months later. When I finally open it, I flash the firmware (it's 4.20 something) and set everything straight (security, login, etc). Ever since then, the router has kicked EVERYONE off the wireless network just about every other week or so. Once kicked off, I can't even ping the router. I tried resetting the router, changing from 2.4 to 5.8 ghz phones, moving the microwave, upgrading my wireless adapters. Nada. I call Linksys support; I've done everything they asked. So the tech says change Beaconing to 50, and the RTS and Framerate Thresholds to 2307 (don't know the number off the top of my head). If it doesn't work, call back and they'll give me an RMA number. The router only lasts another two weeks. Since then, the stupid piece of junk has been sitting on my desktop computer, waiting for an RMA number from Linksys (been too busy to call). My current setup is this: Netgear MR814v2 router 2 Desktop computers w/ Zonet ZEW2500P 802.11g USB2.0 Adapters (which are VERY nice) 2 Wireless laptop clients w/ built in wireless adapters On my desktop, I play lots of games and watch lots of videos on websites such as CollegeHumor, YouTube, Apple, etc. For the other desktop and one of the laptops, they use AIM and watch videos, also. No games. I realize that wireless is NOT the best option for gaming; however, at this time I cannot lay down any wire for a LAN. Could anyone suggest a router that a) actually WORKS, B) runs at 802.11g (54mbps), and c) supports WPA-PSK, MAC address filtering, etc? I've checked newegg, and the top router is the Linksys one I already have. I don't want to update my adapters since I JUST got them. Any help would be much appreciated!
  17. Default. Will there be chocolate flavoured and mint flavoured versions?
  18. Actually, we had one at my college a few semesters ago. The boot sector virus did something related to Denial of Service attacks....I'm afraid I can't remember. But anyways, the IT Department Chair made his rounds explaining to everyone what was going on (the boot virus, DoS attacks, etc.) and that everyone needed to scan their floppy disks, flash drives, etc. for viruses before coming to class. Heh.

  20. This is from Microsoft's website concerning the 1603 error (and others....)
  21. Maybe you need to turn anti-aliasing on?
  22. I had a Netgear MR814v2. I enabled UPnP AND enabled port forwarding (the latter explained below). In Azureus, I have the port set to 46999...I think. It's been a while. But you get the idea. Then I went back to my Netgear router and enabled port forwarding for 46999 to my machine. Do you use assigned IP addresses? That's what I had just to make sure everything worked fine. I have fixed* my Linksys WRT54G router, and I have UPnP enabled. The Azureus port is set to 46999. Works fine! Hope that helps! * - After threatening to dip the router in burning hot oil and then place it in the microwave for 5 minutes on high, it decided to cooperate and stop kicking everyone off the wireless network.
  23. I really like blowing stuff up with the C4. There is no end to the enjoyment I feel when I use it. Sometimes, though, I forget to back away when I detonate the explosives...
  24. Same. By the way - finals?! Gah, I've already started my spring semester. This week was the week of the tests. Arg!!! Too much studying...my brain....must...play...video....games....
