  1. Just wanted to say I found that guide quite helpful! I have to set up a VPN for a project for class, and I didn't know how to until now. Thanks!
  2. Well, it seems the my family just can't managed to keep spyware off their computer. The latest victim was our Dell Latitude CPi A400XT laptop. Amongst the spyware was the nasty Nail.exe and Aurora crap. I think I may have gotten rid of that, but there still seems to be some trouble. I've installed and run: AdAware SE 1.06 Spybot S&D Microsoft Antispyware (beta) CWShredder Everytime I turn the laptop on and log-on to windows, MS Antispyware gives me a message saying that AFA Internet Enhancer is trying to install something into my browser. I've tried to get rid of this "AFA" but it doesn't seem to want to go away. Here's my HijackThis log: Logfile of HijackThis v1.99.1 Scan saved at 4:34:26 PM, on 6/28/2005 Platform: Windows XP (WinNT 5.01.2600) MSIE: Internet Explorer v6.00 (6.00.2600.0000) Running processes: C:\WINDOWS\System32\smss.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\winlogon.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\services.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\lsass.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\spoolsv.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\rundll32.exe C:\WINDOWS\Explorer.EXE C:\PROGRA~1\NORTON~1\navapw32.exe C:\Program Files\Microsoft AntiSpyware\gcasServ.exe C:\WINDOWS\system\cuqco.exe C:\Program Files\NETGEAR\WG511v2\wlancfg5.exe C:\Program Files\Microsoft AntiSpyware\gcasDtServ.exe C:\Program Files\Norton AntiVirus\navapsvc.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\tcpsvcs.exe C:\Download\HijackThis.exe R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://us.rd.yahoo.com/customize/ycomp_adbe/defaults/sb/*http://www.yahoo.com/search/ie.html R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/customize/ycomp/defaults/sp/*http://www.yahoo.com R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://www.yahoo.com/ R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = O2 - BHO: (no name) - {53707962-6F74-2D53-2644-206D7942484F} - C:\PROGRA~1\SPYBOT~1\SDHelper.dll O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [NAV Agent] C:\PROGRA~1\NORTON~1\navapw32.exe O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Symantec NetDriver Monitor] C:\PROGRA~1\SYMNET~1\SNDMon.exe /Consumer O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SSC_UserPrompt] C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\Security Center\UsrPrmpt.exe O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [gcasServ] "C:\Program Files\Microsoft AntiSpyware\gcasServ.exe" O4 - Global Startup: Adobe Reader Speed Launch.lnk = C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 7.0\Reader\reader_sl.exe O4 - Global Startup: NETGEAR WG511v2 Wireless Assistant.lnk = ? 3. I desperately need help with this school project. This semester, one of my projects in my IT class is to build a network for a business. However, networking is not my cup of tea and I have not a CLUE as to how this should be set up. I've been able to figure out a little bit on my own, doing research on the web and such, but I'm kind of having a hard time grasping the concept and design of this network. We have been assigned to install a network in a building at a community college in KY. The building, whuch used to be a bank, is about 35 years old and is made of cement. It is being used by the community college like an office building, such as keeping records of students and such. Besides knowing next to nothing about networking, only one of my teammates knows what to do, but they get distracted too easily to be of much use. If anyone could help, I'd greatly appreciate it! Here are the specifications for the network: - Backbone fiber infrastructure to support Gigabit Ethernet data service to all floors - Backbone large pair-count copper wire to support voice service to all floors with a minimum of one phone per 150 square feet of floor space - We will require four drops per office location. - Floors 5, 7, 8 and 9 are currently, or will be leased. We would like to have the basement, and floors 1-5 wired. - All floors have drop ceilings with plenum space except in Lobby area on first floor. - The Entrance Facility is in the basement. - We require our WAN gateway for our Internet connection (via University of Louisville) to be 1GB fiber optic cable. - Intermediate distribution facility on each floor -- Each IC will have a voice panel, data panel, switching, and horizontal cross-connect with drops going to each office area. - We would like the MDF to be on the 3rd floor. - Quotes for wireless LAN connections where appropriate - Quotes for 10 and 100 Megabit Ethernet LAN - All work will be completed according to KCTCS IT Infrastructure Standards - All cable will be plenum grade - All installations will be grounded/bonded My teammate and I are hoping to use both wireless and wired networking. We'll put the MDF on the 3rd floor (as stated above). Should we put an IDF on each floor? I have the floor plans for the building; the first floor is basically a big open area; that's where we're going to exploit our wireless solutions. I'd like to use WAPs that use MAC address filtering, for added security. Here's the one(s) I picked out for our building: That's about all I have right now... Also, where can I find reviews for IDFs and MDFs, and where can I find them? Thanks in advance for any info, and let me know if you need anything else! If you have a link that details how to build a type of network just like this, please let me know!
  4. Been a while since I've posted. Since it's a new month, I figured I might be the first to create this thread. And what better way then to promote the new Star Wars movie?
  5. The link below is to a .rar archive that has the EnergyBlueTheme folder and contents. Here you go... EnergyBlueTheme.rar *EDIT* Found the link on Microsoft's website: WindowsXP-TabletPC-EnergyBlueTheme-x86-ENU.exe
  6. That's what I was wondering. On MS's website, the following critical update is for MSNM: KB887472: Microsoft has released a security update to Microsoft Windows Messenger Looks like that narrows it down quite a bit...now I must find out how to disable it from launching MSNM! No, I'm not installing/upgrading MSNM. But thanks for the suggestion! Yes, it really doesn't stop the install; it just gets on my nerves! Thanks very much for your help!
  7. During the last 20 minutes of the Windows XP install when my hotfixes are being integrated, MSN Messenger just pops up out of the blue, asking me if I'd like to log on to the service, and I have to close out of it to finish the install. This happens before I've even logged on for the first time. Here's my WINNT.SIF file: And here's my svcpack file, in case that helps...? Also; KB887742 does not install itself fully. After I've finished installing XP and I go to Windows Update, it says that KB887742 has already been downloaded to my computer and that when I click "Install Updates" it will finish initializing the hotfix for me. Anyone else have that happen? Thanks for any help!
  8. I don't know if this will help you or not, but once I had a similar problem. To make a long story short, it turned out to be my graphics card, of all things. I'd flashed the motherboard BIOS and updated the chipset, and even the graphics card chipset, and it'd still reboot. However, once day ATI released another driver update, I downloaded it, and haven't had a problem since. Hope that helps.
  9. Try changing OemPreinstall=No to OemPreinstall=Yes
