  1. The first 2 are nvidia tray programs, the second 2 are the Input Method Editor (for inputting text in languages other than english)
  2. Erm... no If your motherboard has one slot/socket you cant have a second CPU, not to mention ive never come across a dual CPU laptop -or- dual P4 setup (only xeons). Btw if you fundamentally change a system's hardware then chances are you will -need- to reinstall windows. I do recomend you go and build your own PC, its a good educational experience, just be sure to do your homework before ordering stuff. Good luck
  3. ah windows for workgroups... *reminiscence* back to the topic of getting XP going nicely, there is a small freeware app by the nice people at driverheaven.net (yes, the people include the dude who makes the omegadrivers) called "TuneXP", it doesnt seem to get discussed here much which is a pity cos ive found it to be the smallest/most efficent means of tweaking XP post-install: Driverheaven.net - TuneXP happy tweaking B)
  4. This may sound daft... but have you tried bridging the two segments using the bridging feature in XP?
  5. Hmm... would it not be favourable to do away with the router and use the 2003 box as a gateway? thru routing and remote access that will also provide a better NAT (if NAT is required that is, you didnt state if it was a WAN router or IP router)
  6. This is assuming you are using a workgroup (decentralized or "peer to peer") arrangement. I also assume youve disabled simple file sharing (explorer > tools >Folder options... > view tab > advanced settings pane > Uncheck the "use simple file sharing" tickbox). Create a local user account on your computer, give it NTFS and share permissions to access the folder(s) you wish to share, then have the other users in your network go to map the folder(s) as network drive(s). During this process they should click the "connect using a different user name" text in the map network drive dialog box - have the network users enter the username and password of the the local user account you created a minute ago.
  7. Hey all, I was wondering if it was possible to have the user icons that appear next to your username in the start menu and welcome screen of XP in server 2003 aswell, im trying to add an icon for a domain admin, i cant see anything in active directory user and computers I have already looked thru the forums and the guide on converting server 2003 into "windows professional 2003" (a most excellent guide, but not quite what im trying to achieve here) I had one idea about logging into an XP workstation and using XP's gui-like user manager - would that work? Even then there must be an easier method... Other info: Its the standard edition of windows server 2003 Thanks in advance (ive got to go out for a bit, so i wont be replying strait away)
  8. well AMD's old naming convention was meant to be a gauge of its performance to consumers who only understood megaherz. the 2500+ was so named because it performed a similar number of operations per second to a 2.5ghz pentium 4 of that era. however both manufacturers now use a "a number" instead of the frequency, this is no doubt because joe average would look at a 64bit athlon labelled "2ghz" and think of it as slower than a 32bit pentium 4 labelled "3.2ghz", which is a pity. btw i also believe intel chips are pricier than AMD's because of the quality tests intel put their chips thru, per yield they will throw away more chips than AMD, that doesnt mean to say that if you have an AMD chip it wont be stable etc, just that you can guarantee stability/performance with intel. (PS I say that as an AMD fan, no need to hate something just because you bought the other chip)
  9. Can the bios be reached? if so then the core voltage setting should be somewhere in there (if my memory serves me correctly they usually have 1.65 volts), failing that there should be jumper/DIP switches on the motherboard to adjust this setting but to set it correctly you will need info from the motherboards manuals/documentation. hope that helps
  10. Just in case it isnt obvious youll need a socket 939 or socket 754 motherboard to seat that new AMD 64bit chip in.
