  1. I really liked Vista, since it's day of release, however I think that since the release of Windows 7, Microsoft totally messed up with Vista and trated it like crap. Same goes for Server 2008 R1. It's such a shame that IE9 (2011) is the last version of IE available both of them, especially since they decided to extend the support till 2023. IE9 is totally useless for private as well as business work for at least 5 years now: No YouTube, no Office-online, not even the Google Homepage is shown in its modern design. How do they think companies will profit from their Extended Support Offer, when IE9 is the last "big browser" that still gets patched. Firefox 52.9/Chrome 49 are no solutions in 2020/2021. They are patching a dinosaur, who wont get younger through the patches. They totally messed that up. What they could have done (since Vista would could supported it) was to release AT LEAST IE10 to Vista/Server 2008, since it's HTML5 performance is much better than the one of IE9. Nowadays, every browser that scores below 250 HTML5 points cant be used to browse the web fluently anymore. They should have also not stopped with IE development in general . There should have been an IE12 alongside Windows 10, but thats another story. Coming back the Vista, Microsoft could have rolled out feature updates for IE9, like IE9 SP1 ir IE9.1, IE9.2.. which could have improved CSS and HTML5 support. Personally, I would be so emberessed, if I would have been business leader and my PCs cant even check Mails because their Browser cant realy do anything. Further examples for messed up Vista- support are: -> Office 2013/365 -> Movie Maker 2012 -> Skype -> OneDrive -> .. go on
  2. I will definitely continue to use Windows 8.1. I think the Embedded version is supported for a few more months till 10/2023 if I remember it correctly. I will deploy these updates after EOL. Furthermore, I think Firefox will support 8.1 until 2023. At the end, they will probably move Windows 8.1 to Firefox ESR. However, we are already benefiting from a modern web right now and I think even when Browsers shut support, we wont get any HTML5 issues in near future. Edge will end support as soon as Chrome ends support. I have a bad gut feeling when it comes to Chrome. I think it will end Windows 7 this year and maybe 8.1 at the same time like they did with Windows XP/Vista. Internet Explorer will be the final supported browser, coming to an end at the EOL Date and patachble till 10/2023 with Embedded Updates. It will probably be the safest, but definitely not the most modern in 10/2023
  3. Hey guys. I recently found my very old Netbook, while I was down in the basement. It was still running Windows XP Home and I think the last time I used it was 2014? Couldnt find any newer data than 04/2014 on it but anyways.. as you all know Windows XP was discontinued on that date and now I want to use that Netbook again for Word, OneDrive and maybe some research. However, I am very unsure to which OS I should upgrade that specific Netbook. The specs are: Dell Inspiron mini 1012 Intel Atom N450 - Single 1,66 GHz 2GB DDR2 - RAM 10,1 inch screen (1024x600) 140GB Crucial SSD 4400maH Battery (~3:30 hours SOT with XP) I am very unsure, as I think every OS has is Pro's and Con's which I listed down below: XP: Cannot use it anymore, no newer software support, I dont like it's design and think it is not modern enough for 2021. However, it is amazingly fast Vista: Same as XP. I would need the 64bit version to install Extended Kernel and get newer browsers, however I think Vista needs to be patched a lot before all of that and it is just not worth it on this Netbook. This single core doesnt allow 64bit 7: Seems to be the best version tbh., every major app still works, it looks so beatiful, doesnt consumes a lot of Ram.. 8/8.1: Tbh, I think Windows 8 is the fastest out of all of them BUUTT this Netbook isnt Win8 optimized at all, especially because Windows 8 Apps recuire a higher screen resultion than 1024x600 10: It is the slowest out of all of them and only works till 1607. Starting with 1703, Intel no longer provide Graphics Drivers for Intel GMA 3150. I think the only Windows 10 versions working on this netbook are 1507/1607 LTSB. However, I cannot buy LTSB licences anywhere for private usage. I also think 10 is way too heavy for a single core Processor. What do you guys think?
  4. Happy new year guys! I hope Vista will see great improvements through extended kernel this year
  5. Well that's interesting and I thought about this as well... The Extended Kernel gives Vista users Windows 7 (SP1) APIs, however I think that Software developers, especially Google Inc. (Chrome + Chromium) will end their support for Windows 7 in 2021. I dont think that Windows 7 will get browser updates till end of ESU in 2023.. With the end of Windows 7, we will not be able to use newer browser versions on Vista as well. My theory: Chrome will end their support before Firefox, like it happened with Windows XP/Vista and Firefox will move Windows 7 to the ESR-Channel in 2022. ESR is probably supported for another good year, so updates will ultimatly end at the end of 2023 (MY THEORY ONLY!) So, Extended Kernel must be re-developed to get APIs from Windows 8(.1), which will sure be harder than with Windows 7's APIs I guess. Anyway, everything the developers have reached by now is way better than the obsolent Chrome 49/Firefox 52 browers. You just have to think about the fact that Google and Mozilla have officialy ended their support for Vista 2/4 years ago and that, thanks to extended kernel, Vista users will be able to browse the web way more secure and with more features! So whatever happens, I am very grateful for the development team behind Ex.K. and hope that they will soon be able to develop a x86 based Kernel, so that maybe Office 2013+, LibreOffice 6.0+, Spotify, Steam, Adobe Reader, Windows Essentails 2012 and some more cool stuff will work on Vista. The newer versions will definitly make Windows Vista feel way more polished and modern again.
  6. Maxthon 6.1.0 (based on Chromium 85) is (obviously) also working with Extended Kernel v2020/11
  7. Well thats pretty simple: I agree on the fact that Office should have kept the 2010 Aero Design Scheme but Office 2010 is no longer a secure option and especially not for people who use Windows Vista as a daily driver (without Server 2008 ESUs). Some of the best Office 2013 benefits are: 1) In Word 2013 you can embed YouTube videos in your documents and play them directly. Various ODT and PDF files can now be converted (I personally need that feature for school/university) 2 ) In PowerPoint 2013, you can see your notes about the slides on your screen during the presentation, while the viewers only see the slides 3) While Office 2010 didn't have much to do with the cloud, OneDrive is now fully integrated into the office suite. Office documents can be saved quickly and easily in the cloud and further processed at any time from any location with an internet connection. 4) OneNote 2013/2016/W10 edition Notes are not compatible with OneNote 2010. I cannot see or edit my Notes written on my Tablet on Office 2010. Higher OneNote versions are not compatible with 2010.
  8. May I ask why Spotify is not working with Extended Kernel? Is it a 32bit Application? I feel like Vista could have the potential to become an Everyday-OS again, if we find a way to make Office 2013/Office 365 or LibreOffice work. I really want to use OneNote 2013+ on Vista, as my OneNote for Windows 10 files do not open on OneNote 2010. Thats really sad and alongside Spotify, the reason why I am still unsure whether I should use Vista or 7. By the way, which Antivirus program do you guys use? Is there anyone which works with Extended Kernel?
  9. My specs: Intel i5 8250U 8GB RAM 250GB SSD Windows Vista Home Premium x64 (German) I started using Vista in 2008, after our XP PC refused to start. Back then, I did not know that it was a driver error which led to the crash and not a hardware error (Nowadays I am the PC specialist in our family lol), so we bought a new PC. I cant remeber the processor but I know it had 2GB RAM and ran Business x32. Vista was very nice, we used it till 2013, before we upgraded to Windows 7. I remember that Vista did not support IE10/11 and Office 2013, which were the two major problems with it. We didnt use Windows 7 for a long time (I think only till 2014). In 2015 we upgraded to Windows 8.1, which was very fast in comparison to any other OS I had used before. When Windows 10 came out, our PC couldnt handle, so we made a fresh Clean Install of 8.1 and even nowadays it still runs veryy fine (we upgraded the RAM to 4GB)
  10. Im sorry to interupt your current discussion, as I am not up to date for a few weeks now about this kernel. My question is: Is Office 2013+ or Spotify working now or are you working on it currently?
  11. You havent googled the device number. My S15 does have a normal touchpad and not a screenpad 2.0... In W8.1 the touchpad works after letting Driver Booster install all drivers but in W7 it doesnt work.
  12. Hey Windows 7 Community! 2 years ago I bought a new notebook, which obviously had Windows 10 (1709?) preinstalled. I successfuly downgraded it to Windows 8.1 already. By modifiying the Intel UHD 620 Drivers, I got all drivers working on 8.1 However, when I tried to install Windows 7, the Touchpad (PTP-) Drivers were not working and I always have to connect a mouse. I'm wondering why the touchpad works with 8.1 and if the driver can be modified to use it on Windows 7 as well. My device is the ASUS VivoBook S15 (R520UF-BQ385T). Thanks for any help you can give!
  13. Great news! CCleaner 5.70 (the latest) works on Vista Extended Kernel. Originally, CCleaner dropped support for Vista with v5.64.
  14. I am really curious if the latest VmWare Tools work on Vista. It became so hard to install all of the updates till EOL. Well, not hard, but time stealing
  15. Has anyone tried Vivaldi or normal Google Chrome ? If I extract Chrome 72 x64 it says Chrome stopped working, however chromium 72 works fine
  16. I can extract IE10 8250 from the Win8 Consumer Preview. Ive got an ISO x64
  17. Mozilla Thunderbird (the Firefox Email client) is also working for me with the extended kernel. I thought porting IE10 back to Vista could be my next goal. Vista‘s IE 9 has the version 9.0.8112.x So, doesnt that mean that this IE version is ported from Windows 8 Build 8112? Because IE11 on W7 also has the version number 11.0.9600 which means it is ported back from W8.1? I looked it up and such a build really exists but cant be downloaded anywhere. However, it may be possible to port back IE10 from Build 8250 (Consumer Preview) or?
  18. Nah haha I dont have a YT channel, but I can create one and also do a video if you want about Google Earth Pro or Chromium maybe? Since the kernel is your work, I wouldnt do anything without your permission bro
  19. just found that video which demonstrates Quantum on Vista. WinClient was that your video?
  20. Just found out that the latest Google Earth Pro works on Vista with the new Kernel. Im not sure if it supported Vista but Google says that the min OS was Windows 7. Great news! BUT.. you need to install the latest IE9 patches, otherwise you will receive Certificate errors in GEP
  21. Any can someone pls make a YT Video and show everything from the kernel replacement to the new software versions
  22. Alright, thanks for the quick answer
  23. I followed your instructions, however when I open Export Table Tester, it doesnt show K32... there is basically nothing new to the kernel, although I added all of the non zero code starting at 000BCF50. Im currently on 6.0.6002.18005 (installed every update till EOL). What should I do?
  24. Dear WinClient and win32 (any everyone who participates on this project): Thank you soo much for doing this project, I really appreciate your work. A few months ago I was very sad that NOBODY really appreciated Vista and that Browsing has become extremly risky. I updated it with Server 2008 patches till 04/20 to make IE9 safe at least but as you all know -> 113 HTML5 points are not enough to browse the web anymore. So thank you for this Extended Kernel, so I can use the latest Firefox on my most favourite OS. I hope you will one day be able to port Office 2013+, OneDrive, Skype, Steam and Spotify to Vista. That would be amazing
  25. Sooo nice thanks dude! Windows Vista is an eye candy and FF78 looks soo good. I just put out my old Inspiron mini 1012 and try to use it as well. And yes IE10 is obsolet but I thought it may be easier to port 10 than 11. If you can port IE11 back it would be way more better. You know what would be a big achievement? If you would be able to port Microsoft Edge Chromium to Vista haha
