CustomDestination ! HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Folders ! DUH! oh well, i live and learn...

is the info i got, but i don't think most of it applys to 98SE what i want to do is place folders into My Documents and muck about with the desktop.inis during the install of the project i'm working on, i'm pretty sure i know now how to do what i want to do with the singular exception of referencing "My Documents" itself with a DIRID (or via an alternative method (reading the registry ?))
-
another dumb inf question (before i go to bed) how would you reference 'My documents' location (taking into acount it could be anywhere) in a windows 98SE inf file ? (i'm taking it that the XP DIRIDs don't work)
-
Thank You @ bookmarked ! (for study) sorry sounding like a dumbass but this kinda thing is really not my forte, btw does anyone know what the syntax of a my computer shortcut target is (i think it's a CLSID somehow) i might find it though (goes of to crawl through MSFN searching with 'updateinis')
-
anyone ? i think i can do the first by just copying a shortcut from the install dir (all shortcuts to My Computer appear to be the same) thoughts ?
-
do you do anything to your host file ?
-
sigh, we don't care. go away. the question was 'DirectX 10 . . . work on win98SE ?' it was answered.

i'm working on an .inf file and i'm stuck with two shortcut changes i want to make 1. i want to put a shortcut to 'My computer' in the 'Quick Lauch' Toolbar (not an expandable one, just one too open the 'My computer' window when clicked) 2. i want to make the 'Windows Update' shortcut in the Startmenu folder hidden (not deleted) i have a feeling this is the easier of the two. any ideas/tips/examples/links ? many thanks for any help.

still calling it POS with every utterance, you need serious help. that and your in the wrong forum. go home to your first 98's a POS topic = http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=44398 leave us 98se users who actually want to make use of the OS (and follow this topic) alone and take your hate elsewhere outside the Windows 95/98/98SE/ME Support forum. what a small life to constantly bile over what others do. (please someone get rid of this guy from this sub forum if possible, it's getting well beyond boring and annoying http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showto...2610&pid=400297 )

i've seen both these before (the second is in my favorites in case i install XP someday) what i'm trying to get at is that TGAs actually have most of the right registry entries preexisting to show up in thumbnail view etc and like i said i'm almost sure i had them working before with no outside apps (except maybe a Word install) i believe that an extra ActiveX control or registry entry is installed that causes them to work (possibly alongside the Word documents preview) or suchlike it's that i'd like to track down. it's possible (if i'm right) that it could just be a registry registry (or several there of)
-
not quite what i ment, but thanks anyway theres a freeware version of this i've used before called Context Viewer (which uses Susie32 plugins) http://www.virtualplastic.net/html/toptools.html can anyone a least confirm that TGA thuimbnails/previews work if you have word (97 ?)/office installed ?
-
TGAs don't work in either the windows 98SE thumbnail view or the webview preview, however i'm almost sure had them working once ages ago, i believe they may work after installing office or word (i had a word (97 ?) install long time ago when i was modding Quake), what i'd like to try an do is isolate what is necessary to make them visible (reg entrys, dlls etc) TGAs are used a lot in various game engines (and the modding there of), so this would be very handy any ideas ? PS. i know there are alternatives but nothing beats native 'in explorer' support imo.
-
I just thought I'd add as a PS to this, incidentally, since I can't see it mentioned before, that Dr Hoiby's site does not (currently) have the relevant info for 4.72.3612.1700, listing only the info for 4.72.3110.1. As best I can tell, this information would be: name : explorer.exe size : 171,280 version : 4.72.3612.1700 //------------ Offset 0x3895 : 01 -> 11 Offset 0xB50F : 01 -> 11 Anyone care to verify that? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> can anyone confirm this (is this as it's used in the SP ?) i'd just like to add it to my 'notes' for future reference.

i imagine you could get into trouble for using hacked MS files on a companys system/network not least because of the MS licence agreements or security concerns. imagine trying to explain it to some dumb nazi suit with managerial responsibility for IT. "soooo you put hacked Microsoft files on our network . . . " btw most (if not all) of the icons can be changed through the registry (also 24bit color icons work on 98SE).
-
imo that should always be left optional for people who don't want Tihiy's revolution pack, after all it's not that hard to run two install programs one after another and keep everybody happy (those who want the candy and those who don't).

nice one Eck
-
didn't know that, i pretty much just use the nvidia Unified Drivers (+ the Asus one for usb 2.0) **** i really fancied one of those boards too . . .
-
in that case check out the Abit NF7-S v2 if your in the market for an nForce 2 (i'm considering getting one) they're very cheap now too.
-
A7N8X-E it's apparently a very good board (some would say the Abit NF7-S v2 is better, maybe worth a look if your looking) i have it's sister board an A7N8X-VM/400 (cause i wanted the backup of onboard video) the only propblem with these boards on 98SE is that they have so much tight intergration (and in the case of the A7N8X-E i suspect extra 'stuff') that IRQ conflicts can be a problem (at least that's my experience with my board) might be worth reading around here - http://www.nforcershq.com/forum/ to see if any of the issues you've been having pop up regularly, however lots of people in the NF2 forum there rate the A7N8X-E very highly.
