Do you need help with the translation?

Really no need, thank you. My question was about what is automatic native, consequently, what form of acceleration was the native thing using.

Well, in my case I think there may be two probable culprits (no false pretense of expertise here, just sharing probably wrong data from an informed, risky, user point of view): 1) https://www.softpedia.com/get/System/OS-Enhancements/DirectX-10-for-Windows-XP.shtml, 2) https://www.softpedia.com/get/Multimedia/Video/Codec-Packs-Video-Codecs/Windows-Media-Format-Runtime-11.shtml.

What matters is, despite what one can find searching the net for what is and what is not compatible with XP (including the subject of this topic) is that many things one can find unusable in XP searching while looking at the swamps of Paramaribo on broadband internet, actually are, sort of, working in XP (even today, 10 years or so after supposed end of life, and more than 20 since its launching as the next big thing), if you know what you are doing. Practice, practice, practice.

The trick is to get your hands dirty, so to speak, and to stop pretending you know what works until you start using the damn thing, instead of reading what you search others say about it. Up to 2017 (transition from FF51 to FF52), I was able to change, somehow, FF video rendering so that watching a movie there was almost as good as watching it in the mpc-hc port by MarkWillem32 (https://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=161047). Those days are long gone, although video quality in sp52 and mypal68 (two other things that shouldn't work as well as they do in XP) are very respectable, today.

If a foreign legion or green beret (laf) wannabe wants to help me better express this, please feel free to do so. We all know military (wannabe) heads know better, anyway.

For those who use or have used XP the way the poor thing can be used:

Installing 2): should go uneventfully. It's necessary, security-wise.

Installing 1): it should install with no problem, 1 issue: you'll start getting the error "The procedure entry point_except_handler4_common could not be located in the dynamic link library msvcrt.dl".

Solution to 1): rename or delete dwmapi.dll (sys32) (keep a backup), restart, put instead dll mod in xompie. If things go bad after that: reinstall windows from scratch (unless you have a paragon14 baseline image).

For those who have no clue, claim imperial tongue their first (obviously) language, their first a dialect, and can't even comprehend the difference between laf and LAF (I prefer the fifth definition of the urban dictionary https://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Laf). Well, stay on topic, boy.

PS: I can genetically demonstrate I'm 1% Ashkenazi and that according to those who know (better than me) my two last names can be traced back to sefardí origins. I believe in no religion but recognize the holy spirit, that prevails over all religions. Even over stupidity, shame on you, Einstein!

    This looks better:

    Driver version 355.98.

This explains why LAV Video Decoder doesn't work on h.264. LAV has DXVA2 according to its settings, h.264 apparently works through DXVA1 on XP. Honestly, I've no idea how I have dxva2.dll in system32/SysWOW64, DirectX Redist seems a likely candidate, these files don't have normal custom file permissions, but inherited from their folders, no copy of them in dllcache folder either. DXVA2 is not supposed to work on XP according to Wikipedia, whatever goes through should only go through software, non-accelerated decoding paths at best. While dxva2.dll is loadable, when it comes to DirectX in general, you still need support from the layers at lower levels.

Though it's interesting VC1 codec is shown for DXVA2 at all, I don't remember ever dealing with this specific codec, at least not knowingly. So output from GPU-Z makes more sense now, querying only DXVA2. That one VC1 variant in DXVA Checker also disappears for DXVA2 when renaming dxva2.dll to something else.

  4. In the end, btw, I decided to stick to dvxa copy back, with the decoding on the second gpu, which was mostly useless until now.

I still can't make it play dvd/br. Maybe one or two of you search-gurus can find a way I couldn't?

If someone ever successfully ported DirectX 11 to XP, it'd be the local news number no. 1, To this date, it didn't happen. So no "maybe". If you still insist, give some links.

I never insist. I was just testing what was on offer, and reported, and you two funny guys have made 10 posts each about it. Well done!. As you said, probably decoding fell back to internal lav (low merit?). Chill out.

What do you mean by "maybe"? There can't be a "maybe". You need to listen to knowledgeable people trying to help you.

I mean, we are talking about a build that shouldn't be running in XP in the first place, using codecs that shouldn't be running either (not just directx11). So that's it, for maybe.

In any case, I tested all options available, and reported. Feel free to taste, test and demonstrate otherwise.

By the way, I was comparing my "eye" results between DirectX11in this build, and cuvid in in this build, both superior to jetaudio and dxva, and on pair with dxva back copy, in my opinion.

  7. A post was lost. It basically said that in order to download the best combination of video and audio, you need to get back to the previous to last version of ffmpeg by @reino, advertised in the signature by @nicolaasjan.. The latest ffmpeg build makes the system contend ffmpeg is not installed, so 3 or 4 of the best versions are downloaded, without joining them (generally in a matroska file).

Of course it's "less resources" for you simply because Windows XP doesn't support DirectX11, it never did, run DxDiag to see, hence less depth and the weird brightness, there's simply no acceleration when you choose DX11 on XP.

Maybe so. I was just running some fast tests same video, same settings except the video renderer choice of cuvid vs dxva vs etc. In the attachments the basis scenarios tested on a large 1080 movie.mp4. Simply replace the contents of mpc-hc ini with the one in the files provided.

    [Settings].7z

  9. The thing about jetaudio video decoder is the good balance between resources used and video quality - I hardly noticed any usage, and had to double check.

    (a) With lavvideo, DXVA2 is similarly low in resources, maybe a small improvement, but probably a question of age: jetaudio/cowon is a fruit of the 2000s, so probably is preferred for those used to light settings.

    (b) With lavvideo, DXVA2-BACK, a bit more use of resources, slightly better video quality, to my taste. More depth, better texture.

    (c) With lavvideo, ncuvid(od), a bit more use of resources, slightly better video quality, to my taste. More depth, better texture, better (to my taste, acquired after years of use) of color, perhaps, a bit darker.

(d).With lavvideo, directx11, maybe less resources, equally good video quality, although less depth. Texture and movement slightly better than (c), but color a bit brighter.

All in all, a keeper. PArticularly If I get it to play dvd/br, ripped or not.

  10. How sad. I just played a a few videos and was happy to see that the problems of the internal mplayer were solved. I had to replace it with a previous version, which I will do, if you may kindly share the one version you are using. Smplayer was/is indeed the one player I was aiming to use to stream from the net. Thank!

  11. Finally got the time to try this latest build. I like it very much, in particular thanks to the neat jetaudio video decoder suggested by @IXOYE (besides, jeataudio makes a very nice addition to music players). For output, I'm using the old madVR v0.92.17 (is there a new ported version out there?), and am playing between the old reclock audio renderer 1.9.0.7 beta  (new build?) and SANE AR, which I guess comes from mpc-hc2 (or is it also from jetaudio? mpc-hc 1.7 doesn't pick it up), the old vsfilter for subtitles. I disable all internal filters (and have played with lavfilters, but it tears the rendering apart), and have add haali media splitter and ffdsho vieo and audio decoders (all blocked) below the jetaudio video decoder (just in case).

With those settings MPC-HC2 play large files flawlessly, no glitches so far (including not overheating the GPU, which happens a lot with lav filters). However, no luck playing ripped or otherwise DVDs. Gotta try with BR, yet. So I'm now using MPC-HC2 to play mp4 and similar large files, and MC-HC1.7 for DVD/BR.

I'm still struggling playing youtube and such. More likely my firewall/security settings. I will find a way, I hope. Thanks @nicolaasjan for the clear instructions.

    Movie time now. Cheers!

I don't need to bog the browser with subpar JavaScript performance further with such extension.

However, NS gets stuff no other addon gets. For example, dropbox has a cross connectino to google that only NS catches up. IA related stuff, I reckon. EVery now and then (once every tree months or so, to say something) it does so with other sites too. Worth it for the minimal footprint (as you do, I don;t use it globally, just for cross stuff and ABE.

While I have no troubles helping a non-English member, it's still advisable you finally switch to another software for the forum translations from English into your native dialect. It's just easier, rather than asking every time you don't understand.

You are good at reading dictionaries, but slow at using them properly. Your knowledge of mpc-hc lacks as much as your knowledge of security. MPC-HC was closed down in 2017. During the last 3-4 years, a number of mods have been developed, all targetting W7 (most V8) and up. Some even tried to make them work in XP and Vista. To make them backward compatible though, a few developers have made the necessary changes, including the one presented in this thread (not by you, btw). Self-sufficiency has nothing to do with it, but, maybe, coding expertise and proficiency. Go check the Collins.

  14. Besides, if you have a good gpu, you can get mpc-hc to decode on the gpu. My problem with these last versions of mpc-hc and lav filters is that they are too heavy for my gpus. I use a 1.7.13 mod of mpc-hc and lav filters 0.74 that work as I want them in my set up,after years of progressive tweaking. These new versions exceed my gpu capabilities. I may need to upgrade said gpus, and increase my RAM before truly trying to tweak these versions.

Well, n a clean install runs as advertized. I'm getting issues installing extensions. Nothing to do with V2-V3, I reckpn, but with the files and forlders I block. Will relax things, try to install, and then harden again. And report, later on dduring the week. Cheers!

I can only install ublock and umatrix. Not worth it. Will wait unitl supernium is up for xp

  16. Hi there, @cmalex. I've been trying to set up pyton 3.8 in xp, but the instructions in PythonXP\README are not enough for me, poor illiterate folk, to make it work. Could you explain in more detail (as in spoonfed) how to set it up, and what items to include in path to run it? Thank you very much.

Are you, by any chance, running St52 in the hack-y, unsupported, multi-process mode?

Yup. It seems to work well on vanilla. But it doesn't have the Bookmark search plus 2 (that i use in mypal68) which allows the fetching of boolmarks favicons. In sp52, I manage to prevent it, and cant figure out how to get it back, at least until I get all my favicons into places sqlite.
