  1. That's absolutely great! I look forward to see the final result. By the way, while you're doing it, can you keep us updated? I would really like to know how you are going to port/customise certain dependencies. Anyway, this is a really good project.
  2. Still weird, though. I mean, as they said, if you truly are a developer and if you truly are doing something like that, you must know how to handle certain things. Anyway, I still don't get why someone should have tried to fool us, but still what he did was awkward. I'm a computer science engineer myself (telecommunication area, though) and I should have known it from the very beginning, but we were all too happy to see "the truth behind the lie". That said, I would be happy if he will come back here and prove that he was right, but I don't see that happening. When I have time (and he has time), I would like to talk with blackwingcat instead. AFAIK he developed/ported some stuff in Windows 2000. Even if Windows 5.x kernels are very close to each other, I think it could be a good starting point in order to learn something. P.s if we look at the bright side, we still have semi-official Microsoft updates 'till 2019, root certificates update, SP4 updated 'till January 2016, a way to unlock PAE up to 64 GB of RAM and Directx 10 ported and working. I mean, it's not that bad and these are a lot of things, isn't it? :')
  3. Log into your router and look for the network diagnose. It will show you the signal strength (with its noise level) as well as the speed, so you'll find out whether it's an ISP problem or not.
  4. I removed .net 1.0 SP3 and that, indeed, solved the error in Windows Update, but now when I try to perform a fresh install it says that it's not possible to install .net 1.0 SP3 'cause is not compatible with the version already installed (which is none, except for the new ones). I think I'll need to uninstall all the other .net frameworks and then re-install them all from scratch... I'll keep you updated.
  5. FranceBB is just France (my name - Francesco) and B is the first letter of my surname. If you Google FranceBB OPF-Italia you will find out that I used to be an important fansubber in the Italian fansub world and that I'm no longer a fansubber. Anyway I don't wanna go off topic any further Thank you Dencorso for your help; I'm gonna uninstall and re-install it tomorrow!
  6. Thank you for that. I'm gonna do that and I'll let you know asap. Besides, I would like to keep .net 1 due to compatibility with a few old programs. Off topic As to the country, I'm in Italy on a temporary basis since I live in Elgin Mews (Notting Hill, London). It's a lovely place, pretty close to Hyde Park. I'm Italian, though, so I use to go back to Italy quite often; you know, family etc so you will see my ip change quite often. Anyway, if you want I can change the flag, I mean, it's not a big deal. Up to you.
  7. Agorima, I'm gonna try that way and I'll let you know. Acheron, building a new SP4 for localised versions would be amazing. I hope Harkaz will tell us how he made his own SP4
  8. I have to apologize for the horrible topic title in the first place, but I seriously wasn't able to think about anything else rather than this. Sorry xD Ok, then, I have a few questions about XP, language packs and Service Packs. I have a localised version of Windows XP Professional with Service Pack 3 installed, but, since I have an Italian version (blame on me, I know), I can't install Service Pack 4, which is not exactly a big deal, but still... Anyway, I successfully installed updates post EoL and everything run smoothly. Unfortunatley, my OS is in Italian and I tried to change the language times ago via International Options, but it didn't work (of course), it just installed the U.K keyboard since I don't have an international English version with the Italian language pack installed, but just an Italian version. Then, I tried to install the official multilanguage pack, but it didn't work for the same reason. As to the updates, I know that in Windows XP all the updates are localised etc, so Windows Updates is downloading updates in Italian every single time. In a nutshell, my question is: is there a way to change the OS version without installing it from scratch? Besides, is there a way to install a kind of localised version of Service Pack 4? Thank you in advance. p.s almost forget, a question totally unlinked to this topic, what's the difference between XP and XP MCE? I mean, I read the Wikipedia page and, as long as I know, there should be the change to install a sort of MCE patch in Windows XP Professional in order to include MCE functions in that; is that correct?
  9. Hi, I'm running Windows XP Service Pack 3 plus all the updates post end of support (WEPOS and POSReady 2009), root certificates updates and I have a modified kernel made from Windows Server 2003 x86 in order to have PAE unlock as well. When I open Windows Updates, it keeps finding two updates and tries to install them but they both fail to install every single time. I tried to install them using Windows Setup and using the shut down function (I mean, when user is logged off) but none of them worked. I tried to disable and create from scratch the update folder created by Windows, but it didn't solve the problem. These updates are (KB928367) and .NET Framework 1.0 Service Pack 3. The funny thing is that I have all the .NET Framework already installed and I don't even think I need these updates: .NET Frameworks installed v4.0 Full v4.0 Client v3.5 SP1 v3.0 SP2 v2.0 SP2 v1.1 SP1 v1.0 SP3 So... yep, that's about it. Any sugestion? Thank you in advance.
  10. Updated again; no problem so far
  11. Yep. But again, this is a really bad decision made by Google chrome. There are plenty computers still around with XP...! I wonder if, compiling chrome from chromium source codes ourselves will still work in making it running on Windows XP.
  12. Well, newer .net frameworks would be amazing since the last supported by XP is 4.0.
  13. Same here! I'm running Windows XP Service Pack 3 32bit (PAE, unlocked kernel 36bit), avast premiere, avast firewall and... well... an SSHD! I run regular scans and I have the POS Ready updates. I never had to format since 2002 and I just cloned several times my Windows XP to change my computers. This exact copy of XP "lived" inside different hard drives, going from PATA to SATA and together with an old Sempron, then several Athlon single core, then an Athlon dual core, then a laptop, then a Phenom II X6, and now it's in an old netbook 'cause I have to move frequently between IT, DE and U.K. I actually have two backup copies of this OS and I proudly consider it my "baby" :')
  14. dx10 was never ported nor XP has ability to use it FYI I found this, made a few researches, and it worked: http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/174666-get-directx-1011-in-windows-xp/ Anyway, it would be nice to have other .net frameworks. As to the updates installed this week, everything is fine.
  15. Installing now. Thank you for the update! How about manually porting the new .net framework into xp as well as they did with dx10? It would be really helpful.
