  1. Not really , if you play games, the right way is update to windows 8.1/10,some games start putting windows 7 as minimum os supported (AC Rogue doesnt lauch and Advanced Warfare inicially works on vista, but after a patch, they decline vista support) For working/editing, new drivers isnt increase a lot the performance, against update your OS (without mention dx12 are coming next year). Windows 8 1 works a way better , 10 in couple months too Catalyst 15,4 Drivers are fine for the most recent games (im playing gta 5 really smooth with those drivers, the crew and bf4 /hardline same) Im only waiting for a decent windows vista theme for windows 10 and the first redistributable patch, to upgrade , solid colors looks terrible in my opinion. You don't get this kind of support with Radeon, do you? http://prntscr.com/9fj0kl And Windows 10 is just terrible in my opinion, and the taskbar is currently not themable, so it sticks out like a sore thumb if you apply a custom theme that isn't as boring as the default theme.
  2. Hello. To fix this, click the Start button and type Power Options in the Search Box, and press enter. Once the window opens, click on "Change Plan Settings" under your selected power plan. Then, click "Change advanced power settings" When the dialogue appears, scroll to the very bottom of the list, and click the + sign next to Multimedia settings, then under "When sharing media", choose "Prevent idling to sleep": http://prntscr.com/9csdk2 Then click Ok, and the issue should be resolved. Works fine for me, no books required And I couldn't even get the book to load for some reason, if the solution was what I stated above, then I guess there's no point anyway
  3. This post is for those interested in installing the latest version of Sketchup on Vista. I hope someone finds this useful. I recently discovered that Sketchup 2015 and later do not support Windows Vista. However, I found a workaround that is very simple to do, and the program installs and runs perfectly fine on Vista. First of all, you'll need to make sure that your Vista system is up to date, as IE9 is required (according to their website) for installation, as well as Microsoft .NET Framework 4.0. The next thing to do is to download and install Orca MSI editor: http://www.technipages.com/downloads/OrcaMSI.zip Then, download an MSI installer of Sketchup 2016 here: https://help.sketchup.com/en/article/115548 Once downloaded, right click on the MSI and choose "Edit with Orca": http://prntscr.com/9cs5wu Once you've done that, a window should pop up. In the left pane of the window, right click on "LaunchCondition" and choose "Drop table": http://prntscr.com/9cs60y You should then get a warning message, asking if you're sure you want to proceed. Choose yes. Then, click the File menu> Save, and then you can close the window. Run the installer, and proceed as normal, and it should install and run fine on Vista!: http://prntscr.com/9cs65g http://prntscr.com/9cs68q
  4. It must be a 64-bit only issue. Anyway, I also get this error when clicking on certain things in the program http://prntscr.com/8r8k3z but again, not a big deal.
  5. Here's what I'm talking about http://prntscr.com/8r2x6q But it isn't a big deal honestly.
  6. It also appears when trying to access the tools tab and it won't stop showing up until you kill the adobe reader process through task manager in which case functionality is slightly affected. But otherwise, everything works fine. Thanks again for your work.
  7. There is one small issue, but it doesn't seem to affect functionality of the program. I get this error when accessing the preferences window, but it still opens and functions. http://prntscr.com/8r2k6i
  8. Thank you so much Smeezekitty. It works great on my Vista 64 installation http://prntscr.com/8r23ll
  9. Well unfortunately, 15.7+ on Vista seems to be a no-go. I modified the INF files and sent them to a friend of mine with a radeon GPU, and he tried them out. They installed at first but upon rebooting, they would not function. I guess AMD went deeper than a simple INF restriction this time around. Unless someone can find said restriction and fix it to work with Vista, it seems that 15.4 is the last release for Vista.
  10. Try downloading the drivers from here, but choose Windows 7 as the OS. http://www.geforce.com/drivers I downloaded and ran the installer, and it appears that it also includes Vista drivers. I couldn't follow through completely with the setup since I don't have compatible hardware but it wouldn't hurt to give it a shot on your configuration.
  11. No problem. It appears that someone here on the intel support site said that the Windows 7 drivers work.. https://communities.intel.com/thread/30389Although they may only be referring to the chipset drivers. From my testing they do work with modification, but only the chipset and usb 3.0 drivers. The display drivers were the only problem in which case getting a dedicated graphics card would solve the issue. I know of someone that used Vista on an ivy bridge based PC with a GT 610 graphics card and everything worked, so I'm pretty sure that as long as you had a dedicated GPU, everything would work fine. Here's a video of it in action
  12. Yes and no. Let me explain. I have also tried to use the Windows 7 display drivers on Vista. With what little knowledge I have about modifying the driver information (.INF) files, I attempted to install them by changing the NT version number(s) that restrict it to Windows 7 in the INF from 6.1 (Win7 NT number) to 6.0 (WinVista NT Number), and then installing them via Device Manager, and it installed, but upon rebooting, it refused to function. I find it rather odd that they didn't function, but I suppose intel put some effort into blocking out Vista. I have heard of people getting the XP drivers to work, but you will not get the aero interface. However, if you are on a desktop PC, you can purchase a compatible nvidia card, which will work with Vista. As for USB 3.0 and chipset drivers, you can (most likely) successfully install these drivers by downloading the 7 drivers and modifying them. To do that, try to locate the file with the .inf extension, and then open it with notepad. Change the version number(s) in the file (typically NTAMD64.6.1) to NTAMD64.6.0. Then save the file and open Device Manger. Right click on the device you want to install drivers for, and then choose "Update driver".. then choose to install from a specific location and browse for the modified .infs, and they should install. If not I have some modified USB 3.0 drivers for haswell if you want them which should work, although only with desktops, not laptops. What I also find very odd is that Windows XP is supported, but not Vista. I guess they go by usage statistics, but I don't see how it would be that difficult to include Vista support given the similarities to Windows 7 and the fact that it is a part of the Windows NT 6.x series. AMD's catalyst also for a short period of time supported XP and 7 but not Vista, until MSFN user smeezekitty found a way around that and got the Win7 drivers to work. However if you want full Vista support graphic wise, NVIDIA would be the way to go. Any modern card will work, they fully support XP, Vista, 7, 8, and 10. Hope I helped.
  13. Out of curiosity, did you test these drivers on Vista 32 bit or Vista 64 bit? I'm wondering if the drivers may work on 64 bit, but not 32 bit. I would test them but I don't have a system with a radeon GPU anymore. Not to mention .net 4.6 was recently released for Vista which should help with compatibility as well.
  14. FTFY https://ttcshelbyville.wordpress.com/2013/12/29/what-is-core-parking-and-should-you-adjust-it/ Basically core parking is meant to save power, when it does little in the way of that and decreases performance in the process..
  15. http://prntscr.com/8ndxp0 Nice set of.. cores. Which are all in use instead of every other one being parked which 7 has a nasty habit of doing (which causes performance degration) And then there's this... Win7: http://prntscr.com/8ndyr8 Vista: http://prntscr.com/8ndz35 Well, to each their own.
  16. Great work, smeezekitty. Adobe products aren't too great these days but it's awesome that you got this to work in case someone needs it for compatibilty reasons. Long live Windows Vista
  17. Most folders have that enabled by default, but Music doesn't seem to. Right click on the folder you want to enable it on, and then click properties. Then select this setting: http://prntscr.com/8nbiba Then click OK, and it should show the header.
  18. I guess people have their preferences. I know I sure do... http://prntscr.com/8n58ep And it runs faster and more stable than Windows 7 on this PC.. hahahahahaha
  19. Hello everyone. I noticed that some Vista users on here along with a friend of mine were experiencing a strange bug with Windows Vista's explorer view settings. Well after failing for months now to experience the issue for myself, it finally happened. However, I found a fix and want to share it in hopes that it will help someone else. Basically, the explorer view settings would be shared among different folders and view settings would be forgotten. If I chose to show the Music sort headers in the Music folder, my personal user folder would also change to the Music headers, and if I changed those settings within the personal folder, they would also affect my Music folder. Changing icon view settings in either folder would also affect the other one. Other folders would also not remember their settings, for example, grouping by type would simply revert to the default details view upon closing and reopening the folder. Here is a link to the fix (guide not made by me, I take no credit for it): http://www.geekscribes.net/blog/2011/06/05/solved-windows-doesnt-remember-folder-view-settings/ It seems to also affect Windows 7 given that the guide also mentions that OS, but seems to be either more prevalent in Vista or it may be that I don't use Windows 7 as much. Anyway, I hope this helps some of you who have been experiencing the issue with Vista and maybe Windows 7 too. I would also like to mention that turning off automatic folder type detection did not fix the issue for me, so I don't recommend trying that. -2008WindowsVista
  20. I suppose the best solution for Vista users now is to look to NVIDIA. They have much better legacy support than AMD, not to mention I've found their drivers to be much more stable.
  21. That's quite impressive. Keep up the good work with Win2k, BWC. Now all we need is someone to do this kind of stuff with Vista...
  22. You'll have to first take ownership of basebrd.dll.mui. To do this, download and install this: http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/add-take-ownership-to-explorer-right-click-menu-in-vista/ After doing so, save the modified basebrd.dll.mui to the desktop, and then replace it by deleting or renaming the original basebrd.dll.mui to basebrd.dll.mui.old, and copy the new one there in its place. I think the changes will take effect immediately without restarting but you can restart if they don't.
  23. Install all the updates along with .net framework 4. I assume you're getting the infamous "side by side configuration" error. This should solve the issue. If you want to make Server 2008 like Vista, I suggest checking out this video:
  24. I'm a huge fan of Pale Moon and use it daily. Windows XP's chrome doesn't include code that utilizes or detects aero glass. As a result, in Windows Vista, since they aligned the codebase of Vista chrome to XP chrome, Chrome windows now use the solid XP blue color instead of Windows Aero. I'm sure you can imagine that it looks very hideous and out of place on Vista, however you can somewhat remedy the issue by installing a different theme (or better yet, uninstall chrome completely and use Pale Moon ) What I partially don't understand is why they didn't align it to Windows 7 instead of XP which is much closer to Vista, but I guess missing APIs or draw calls in Vista that are present in 7 that chrome uses are to blame. But that really doesn't make it any less ridiculous in my opinion, they could still make it look half decent by allowing aero glass. I don't see how that would be such a problem. Or better yet stop forcing a custom UI and use the native UI in all windows versions, but I guess that would be too easy. But of course, the community has already created workarounds... https://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=451733(scroll to the bottom).
  25. That's disheartening, and a little strange. I always thought that the drivers themselves would work since 7 and Vista have the same driver model (unless they're locked up tight to keep from being modified, like intel HD). However NVIDIA still supports Vista and inf modding is common among NVIDIA users from what I've seen, so I guess I will avoid buying a radeon GPU if I want to use Vista.
