  1. Yes. In which way this piece of info may be of any use to you, it remains a mistery for me. jaclaz It's not really important to me, but there are many users here that still use discontinued os'es. I was wondering if everyone would still use it.
  2. Hello, XP support officially ends today. I bet you could safely, fully use it for about 2 more years, then we may get unofficial updates. Is anyone planning to keep XP?
  3. Now Post #5 Just... STOP it, please! I will, however, note that I do not use Kex since I don't use any software on my 98SE/Win2000 that requires it. Therefore, I admit I was "slightly" wrong. Ok. I've recently looked at the link you posted, and it seems that XP SP2 is the requirement. I guess not all links are true. Looking back at when I said it seems to be compatible, I meant with KernelEx and KexStubs. I haven't tried it but I trust loblo. In short, not compatible, works with KernelEX.
  4. So it appears to be compatible. A bit surprising, really.
  5. Looks like it is 98 compatible:http://www.gadgetcage.org/angry-birds-game-for-pc-windows/16246/
  6. I would like to help but I don't know how to reach xeno86. I looked at his profile earlier and saw that he hasn't been active on MSFN for a whole year. Unfortunately he has made it very clear that he is done with KernelEx. I think that if someone can communicate with xeno86, that would be a great thing for them to ask. Also, if we were to create a newer KernelEx, I think it should be a community project that multiple people would contribute to, unless one particular person wants to consistently work on it. Unfortunately, I don't know much about 9X development, so I would not be the right person for the job. However, I would be happy to test applications upon request, or any other non-development task. I agree that newer GCC and Mozilla bookmark/history are some of the major priorities of KernelEx. However, just in my opinion, I also think that an important feature to add to this possible KernelEx is the capability to run C++ 2010 apps, like modern Firefox releases or later versions of LibreOffice (4.0+). blackwingcat, known for his work on Windows 2000, has also added C++ 2010 capability to Windows 95, so I'm sure if you asked, he may be able to figure it out for 98/ME. However, you can't run newer SeaMonkey/Firefox on 95, because it's kernel is missing many functions. If we got VC++ 2010 working on KernelEx, we could use the latest FF/SeaMonkey.
  7. That is something a lot of us need .Surprised no one stated this, but a good modern web-browser that natively works, and supports html5 would be nice. Sure you could use kernelEx, but not everyone likes it, or uses it. I am going to attempt to make a modern browser for 98/ME/2k, if that's what's needed.
  8. Thanks. I just thought that installer was incompatible with UURollup/Extended Kernel. I will try it out.
  9. Hello, Here is a simplified tutorial on how to use iTunes on Windows 2000. 1)Download the latest daily release of UURollup or Extended Kernel. 2)For UURollup users only:Download latest KDW. Do not install it! Extract it and run fcwin2k.exe. It is already included in the Extended Kernel HFSLIP. 3)Download the iTunes installer from Apple. Extract it. 4)Open iTunes.msi in fcwin2k.exe. Check "Win2k" in the "Allow Setup" box. Click "Apply MSI". Then, make sure that comp.mode is set to XP SP3. Click "RunCompat". 5)Run the iTunes.msi file. Reboot your PC. 6)Repeat Steps 4 & 5 for AppleApplicationSupport.msi. 7)If you want to use mobile devices, repeat steps 4&5 for AppleMobileDeviceSupport.msi, then install this iOS driver :http://blog.livedoor.jp/archives/773170.html. *** 8)After completing these steps, find the EXE of each program in the C:\Program Files folder. 9)Drag each exe on the fcwin2k.exe tool and set to comp.mode XP SP3. Either the exe's will start or the fcwin2k.exe tool will freeze. If it freezes, close it with the task manager. The apps should run. Sound may seem choppy with iTunes. I don't know how to fix this. ***This is a custom ios driver and if anything happens to your PC, it is your responsibility. Back up any important data before installing iTunes.
  10. Tommy, don't you have 2000 with UURollup as well? 98/ME + KernelEx is still usable on the modern web, but you could use 2000+UURollup and use all the modern browsers there.
  11. I'd beg to differ. I have heard that ME is very unstable, since it combined some new NT elements over DOS,and it has been criticized as one of the worst tech products ever. However, I have never used it myself, and don't have needs for DOS, so it could be good on top of that. Besides Win 3.1, ME is the only Windows I don't use/ have never used. I didn't even use it back in the day. When ME came out, I was just a year old. I could try it, and see for myself. Do you think I should? As for the AV, I will see my options.
  12. Yes, it should. Install KernelEx, and 98 unofficial SP 3.,Then copy the XP DLLs to Windows 98SE. I don't imagine it will be really fast, but it should be better than 98SE because 98SE is a bit faster/more stable than ME. The only reason for not using 98 is security. The only compatible modern AV is Clamwin, but that doesn't have automatic scanning. Also, if someone succeeds in getting Chrome working, I think they should upload it because there are so many 98/ME users here.
  13. This will be a large post. @Jumper. I have had no issues with the VLC application with Shell32.dll, just the subcategory in LIBVLCCORE.DLL. Once I finally correctly got libvlccore.dll to notice the 2K Shell32.dll (shell2k.dll), I had realized that I had damaged multiple files while trying to get this to work. I was lucky that HxD saves backups of DLLs. @pointertovoid I have very little knowledge about programming, except Visual Basic. However I do not particularly like that no one has tried with NT 4.0. I want to make it more usable, but I am not the right person to do it. I like NT because it is fast, stable, and is the base for all newer Windows. However, I don't have any huge reasons for using it today, in 2014. On the contrary, it's not that no one has ever tried with NT 4, it's just that they haven't succeded. No offense. DirectX 5 is the latest for NT 4, and there is no more modern antivirus for NT, except maybe ClamWin. I bet some 98/ME users are having the same issues. Opera 10.63 works on NT 4.0, and it works pretty well and also has HTML5 support. @All. Thank you for your assistance, however this seems to be more difficult than I had hoped. It just seems that certain applications should be easier to modify. For example, I have tried using Dependency Walker on later releases of Flash 9, (NPSWF32.DLL) and found out the ONLY missing function in it was MonitorFromWindow in USER32.dll. I have tried replacing User32.dll with User2k.dll, but that just messed up NPSWF32.DLL more. -I know I am talking about flash AGAIN, but this was a testing purpose only. VLC only needed that certain function too. Since I have realized, with help from pointertovoid, that it is a total waste of time to completely modify the Windows API, it seems to me that the only thing I can do is try to find an appropriate compatibility tool, and try installing KernelEx with it. Even though I am likely not going to modify DLL files much anymore, I still want to use modern-ish apps on NT. Kernelex is designed to run NT-only apps on old Windows, and NT 4 is clearly an NT based operating system, so it should work well.
  14. Opera 10.6x is more stable, and doesn't freeze as much. It has better aligned graphics too. The only browser I currently trust on NT 4.0.
  15. @aofarell2 In the error in the application compatibility launcher,[characters] system can't find the file R-x, this is normal. The exe/MSI will launch normally after. I got the same thing. The FCWIN tool (not KDW wrapper) is still updated, and works with UURollup. I have been able to install, and modify some XP+ programs with advanced protection to work on 2K, like iTunes, and Quicktime Player. Also, Adobe Reader, GIMP, the new Skype, AVG, McAfee Stinger, Winamp, and more should work. Those are some programs I would like to test. @tomasz86 I was going to list my hardware, then I had the thought it was a Firefox addon I have, so I browsed through my addons and found "Google Update". I disabled it, restarted Firefox, and Youtube, while not being perfect since it i is W2k, plays MUCH better.
  16. Well, it's pretty important to have a speedy computer. Also, even though it's still usable, 2000 and XP have both reached their age and I could see why you'd want to upgrade. I mainly use Windows 8 now. Also, I don't get how computers use different quantities of electricity, but I'm not a hardware nor electricity expert. If you have 4 GB RAM or better with Vista, you have a pretty fast computer. For browsers, IE 9 is the latest that will run. It seems to freeze quite often on my system, but could be different with yours. I find that Firefox and Chrome seem to work really good with it. I personally find that Office 2007 seems to crash often on Vista, but any other office suite or version of Office will work really well. Also, if you don't have it already, I would recommend that you get SP2, since that installs many updates. Just trying to give you a few basic tips. I hope you enjoy your new PC.
  17. @ppgrainbow. It's good to hear that you are enjoying your new computer, but why did you have to get rid of 2k? You could have used your old pc as a secondary computer.
  18. @harkaz I see. So this would simplify all the updates for the people that want to upgrade their SP3 system. I bet the updated IE is IE8. This seems to be pretty useful, though. Some people still use XP, and they don't want to have to buy windows 8/Mac OS X.
  19. I appreciate what you are doing, but why do you need an SP4 for XP? XP SP3 itself is very usable and can run almost any app. Are you going to start unofficial support for XP, since MS is finally discontinuing it, like some people have done with 2K?
  20. @tomasz86. I still use chrome sometimes but my main browser is Firefox on 2k. It works good but YouTube videos seem to lag sometimes, which is a little strange considering I have FF 26(may need to upgrade to 27.0.1),Flash 12.0.70 and 1 GB RAM. Also, have you ever considered adding in a tool like fcwin2k into UURollup? I have used it personally, and have been able to install certain programs such as QuickTime 7.7.x and iTunes 10.x on Windows 2000. Application Compatibility Launcher is good and useful, but it doesn't work with every single app, particularly apps that need you to rewrite the MSI. Thanks for all your work on UURollup.
  21. You could try Opera 11.64. It is mostly stable under 98SE.
  22. I think that I will probably spoof the user agent, that being the most effective method. Also, if we could combine blackwingcat's OpenSSL package (allows VS 2010 apps on 95, would probably work on 98) with KernelEX, we could use modern Firefox on 98.
  23. I thought at first that it was for iOS too, but it seems like an Android emulator. Sorry :-(
  24. Just out of curiosity, why are you trashing your old PC? Is there a major issue with it that you can't fix? Also, I thought you originally said your Win95 laptop had 144 MB RAM total, not 3. 144MB should be enough for YouTube, let alone to view MSFN. Lastly, you aren't stuck with such old browsers on 95. Opera 10.10 works well on it, as does FF2 if u look at this:http://www.computing.net/answers/windows-95/how-to-install-mozilla-firefox-20-windows95/170446.html I wouldn't recommend IE 5.5 on 95 at all. No kidding, once when I loaded 1 page, I got 3 blue screens of death while using it!
