  1. Hello, I have noticed that there is KernelEx for 95/98/ME, and UURollup for Windows 2000. But, there is nothing like that for NT 4.0. So, I tested a few somewhat 'modern' programs (like newer Flash 9, VLC 0.9/1.0, FF3). I have found that these programs are missing functions in DLL files, which forbid them from running. I started with VLC 0.9.2, which complained of a missing libvlc.dll file. After locating it and adding it to the VLC folder in the Program Files section,I started the VLC.EXE file and got the error message: "The procedure entry point SHGetFolderPathW could not be located in the dynamic link library SHELL32.DLL". I opened this up in Dependency Walker, and goind that that was the sole missing function. I know that shell32.dll 5.0 (win2k version) introduced SHGetFolderPathW. I obtained that file from a legit source, not an online site. So, I tried copying the 2k shell32.dll file over to the system32 folder, but it didn't allow it. It didn't even allow me to rename the NT 4.0 shell32.dll to shell32.old.dll. So, I started thinking of an alternative method to add this file. I had heard of cmd, but NT 4.0 has the DOS prompt, which to me makes no sense since NT 4.0 is clearly an NT based Windows, not DOS based. Clearly I would need more 2K DLLs than shell32, but I figure once this is done, I should have no problems with other files. So, could anyone please tell me how to add the 2k Shell32.dll file to the NT 4.0 system32 directory? Or, please tell me, if possible, how to add SHGetFolderPathW to Shell32.dll 4.72? Thank you very much.
  2. This part gave me an idea. The crashing happened on my Vista machine. But a couple of days ago, I set up an NT 4.0 SP6 VM in Virtualbox, and just today I got opera 9.64, and Flash 9.0.47 to work.It also explains why Flash 9.0.47 crashed on 98SE. It was my CPU. I'm glad I got this done with.
  3. This will hopefully clear up a few things: I don't know that much about hardware. That info I got was from Wikipedia. However, there were windows and Macintosh versions of VPC, so I am convinced that that info was for the PowerPC Mac versions, although Wikipedia never specified which OS that was for. As for my real PCs, I am currently running NT 4.0 and 98 on Windows Vista SP2, and 2000 on Windows 8. I am not using a host Pentium II.
  4. Ok, here it goes. I don't know necessarily how to change which hardware I am emulating. I am running this in Virtual PC 2007, but that could be the problem, since at first it did the same thing with 98SE. Maybe if I run NT 4.0 SP6 (not 6a) in virtualbox, it would work. After reading your reply I have realized that it does seem a bit redundant. If you can tell me how to merge topics I would appreciate it.
  5. I have never really used Foxit reader, to be honest, but maybe I should try it. It seems to use WAY less disk space. The only real thing I need from Adobe is Flash, but Chrome (portable & full) plays Flash content by default. I even use Chrome on Windows 2000 myself.
  6. It seems that when I run SP6 "over top" of 6a, it works, but Flash 9 didn't seem to. I am going to try replacing the files you mentioned, in a backup copy.
  7. kishra, I am pretty sure you are talking to tomasz86, but I can tell you that maybe if you uninstall Uurollup, then install update Rollup 1 (official), then install Update Rollup 2 (Unofficial, then get the latest daily UURollup v11d [2014-01-03]. This will allow more stuff to install on Windows 2000, As for the .NET frameworks, I want to know if I can put on .NET Framework 1-4 on win2k, and how I do it.
  8. Thanks for updating it. Kishra, I have had the same error before. Just don't install Blackwingcat's updates over UURollup.
  9. Tomasz86, I respect that you are busy and I am glad to hear that you will be testing your UURollup packages on real hardware. However, are you going to update the programs section of your site sometime? If you do, I can confirm Office 2007 will work on Windows 2000, requiring UURollup.
  10. Thanks for testing that. I've tested Flash 8 on YouTube before and I believe it works, but displays an older version of the page. Do you know if any additional updates/special steps are required to run FP9? I believe I got version 9.0.124 on 98SE by rebooting the computer. Either that, or I used Shockwave instead, which claimed it was Adobe Flash 9.0.124. Also, could you please tell me how to uninstall any Windows Service Pack (I don't need to know about NT 4.0 in particular, all versions must have a similar process).
  11. Usually when I test the app,I run it inside the IDE, and bookmarks do not save. However, I have ran my browser standalone, and bookmarks/history do not save when I close the application. I am still a little bit of a newbie with some things about computers, and I do not know which directory temp files install to. Could you please tell me which directory that is?
  12. Hello, I an attempting to create an advanced web browser in Visual Basic 2013. I have properly coded it to have history and bookmark functions. - I have created a 'Add Bookmark' button to add a bookmark to my 'Bookmarks' form. - I have created a 'Bookmarks' button, this launches a new form, with controls and buttons for clearing the list box and removing individual links. - I also have a 'History' button, essentially does the same thing as the 'Bookmarks' button. I have configured the settings for the History and Bookmark functions to work. And while I can add, remove and view bookmarks, and view/remove/clear history, once I close the application, all these links just disappear. So, what my question is, how do I save HTML links (in this case,Bookmarks/History web pages) in a Visual Studio application?
  13. For 98SE, I have Flash 9 installed on Opera 10.63 and it works. The only thing that doesn't seem to work is Youtube, as most of the buttons don't seem to show up. For NT 4.0, I installed opera 9.64, and Flash 9.0.47, but the problem still occurs. I have been trying to disable hardware acceleration, but Opera crashes before I could even see a flash animation.I think this problem may be related to SP6a. I know where I could get the original SP6, but how do I uninstall SP6a?
  14. I am running this virtually, and the virtual machine emulates an Intel Pentium II as the processor, with an Intel 440BX chipset. I can't really understand, however, why Flash 9.0.47 doesn't work at all. Not that it is usable, but even Flash Player 7 works (runs right).
  15. Maybe this will help: 1)I am using Windows NT 4.0 SP6a as my main OS for this, but I'm also using 98. 2)Opera 10.63 is my main browser, but since it didn't work, I tried some other browsers. 3)My goal is to get earlier versions of Flash player 9 (up to v. 9.0.124) to work. 4)That thread is for any Flash Player, and for Windows NT 4.0 only. The version of Flash I have there is 8.0.42. While that works on Youtube,It barely works with anything else. This topic was originally to get some versions of Flash 9 (earlier versions) to work in Windows. AFTER I tested in 98, I came to the conclusion that Flash Player versions up to 9.0.124 don't work.
  16. After reading your reply, this are my replies: -Whenever I tried to load Flash content using Flash Player 9, Opera & FF 2.0.0.20 would crash, not fail to load flash content. -Before I knew that 9r47 was the latest Flash for NT 4.0, I tried some other releases of Flash 9, including Flash 9r246, and THEY were missing MonitorFromWindow. -As for Opera 10.63, I am not sure how to explain it. If I install Flash 9.0.47, it installs fine, but when I go onto a Flash website that is currently displaying Flash content, Opera just shuts down. It doesn't always even ask to send an error report. -Have you recently used Flash Player 9. If so, what version, and does it work for you. I have SP6a installed, not SP6. What difference does this make?
  17. This is strange. I installed the latest updates for Windows 8, and once I booted up my PC again, ActiveX controls worked!
  18. I believe the error message I received was "The procedure entry point MonitorFromWindow could not be located in the dynamic link library User32.DLL." That was on NT 4.0 only. Thanks for the link to Shockwave Flash 10.3. Hopefully it wil work with Opera too. Although you know that it supports 98SE, it may work with NT 4.0 too. Oldapps said the last Windows NT 4.0 compatible version was 10.2, but they can't always be trusted. This is not a website-only problem. Earlier versions of Flash 9 (up to at least 9.0.124.0) seem to crash when trying to load any flash content, no matter which operating system. This is for youtube, dailymotion, CNN. I even tested some sites using Flash games, and they instantly crashed as well. I tested this in Firefox 2.0.0.20, IE 6, K-Meleon 1.5.4 and Opera 10.63, with the same results. So it was a problem with Flash 9 itself. I knew that IE & Firefox have different Flash Players, and FF has the same Flash Player as Opera. I will try Shockwave for now, and post the results.
  19. Hello, As I said in this link:http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/170674-adobe-flash-9-doesnt-work-in-windows-nt-40/, I could not get Flash 9 to work on Windows NT 4.0. It installed, but crashed when I tried to play a Flash video. Turns out the same version, Flash 9.0.47.0, does the same thing on Windows 98. Newer releases of Flash 9, along with Flash 8 & 7, work on 98, but newer versions of Flash 9 don't work on NT 4.0. They don't play any flash content, and before even fully loading the page, they complain of a missing file in User32.DLL. So, how can I get Flash 9.0.47 to work?
  20. Hello. I have downloaded the Express edition of MS Visual Studio 2013, so I could create programs. In one of these programs that I plan to make, I wish to use the Windows Media Player control.I have the control in my toolbox, but when I try to insert it, I get this message: "Failed to open the ActiveX control. Make sure that it is properly registered." This is unusual, since Microsoft themselves are the developers of WMP, and this control is clearly registered. What should I do to fix this?
  21. I have looked a bit further, using Flash 9.0.16. Apparently animated objects work, and the Adobe flash site says I am using version 9.0.16.0, but when I load ANY site that is currently playing a Flash video, it crashes, no matter which browser. It may be do to JavaScript, because the crashing happens with JavaScript enabled. But when I do disable JavaScript, sites like Youtube, Vimeo, Blip display a black screen where the Flash content is? Any ideas for fixing this?
  22. Hello, I am having problems with the newest Adobe Flash Player with the newest UURollup. When I try to install Flash for other browsers, it complains of a missing DINPUT8.DLL file. This is for the newest release of Flash and the previous one, 11.9.900.170. When I was using the previous UURollup release, the latest Flash version was 11.9.900.170, and it installed correctly. Could someone check this out?
  23. I did redownload it, and now it works. But before, I just realized that there were many errors in extracting the 7z file with 7-Zip 4.65. So, I downloaded 7-Zip 9.22 and UURollup (again). It worked great.
  24. Hello, I have created a 2nd Win2K VM. I installed Service Pack 4, Update Rollup 1 and Update Rollup 2. I then tried to get the latest daily UURollup. Strangely, after I extracted the files, the update.exe file says it is not a valid Win32 application. This has never happened with older versions of UURollup. Anyone else having problems with this too?
