  1. Spotify keeps one's head filled, otherwise silence takes over and you start to hear your own thoughts.
  2. I am all for it now. Sometimes, the only way to stop something is to let it run its course. These companies will probably only face protest if their EULAs would contain clauses like "in case our CEO needs a new liver and you're the perfect candidate, you automatically agree to the donation by installing this software". And even then you would probably find more than enough dolts: "What are you afraid of? Given the many users, what are the chances YOU will be selected for the transplant? Do you know the daily risk you face just by crossing the street? Entitled much?" If you're in a bus or train and you accidentally peek at the smartphone or notebook of your neighbour, there's a high chance that you'll earn an angry look or even a comment. Later these same people have no qualms whatsoever to install literal keyloggers just to up some version number. I don't want to get too philosophical here, but something is just not right nowadays.
  3. The best thing about it is that people put up with all this spying and intrusion for something that's far worse than Windows from six years ago. Aside from DirectX 12, EVERYTHING about it is a regression. It looks just bland compared to W7, has more spyware in it than an unpatched XP computer in 2004, the handling is worse (multiple control panels), forced updates, adware natively baked in.. it's a darn joke. The only reason it isn't burned at the stake is because it has a slightly better UI than W8. If Windows 10 would look and feel absolutely awesome, if it would have some eye-popping 3D interface it would be at least understandable why some would be blinded by the shiny and forget all the intrusions in turn. But W10 has nothing of that sort. It doesn't even have shiny! That makes it all the more ridiculous. People are ready to give away all their privacy for.. something that's worse than what was available for years already, even in the looks-department! OH MAN. Apparently "new" is all it takes. A new bag of crap is better than old gold. It really makes me sick. It's so f***ing depressing on all kinds of levels. I am beginning to think Windows 8 was some sort of ploy for W10 - make the UI so bad at purpose, so that any Windows which corrects this will be hailed as the best thing ever, no matter the raw deals it brings to the table in return.
  4. Nothing is too low for the fanboys: https://channel9.msdn.com/Forums/Coffeehouse/Faulty-update-time-And-again-W10?page=4 I don't see anything wrong with validating new features to enterprise software through consumer channels first. Enterprises require more stability than consumers, and for good reason. They tend to work with a lot more sensitive data for many more people. They tend to be targeted more as the reward for a successful breach is much higher. They are seriously shilling that MS forcing customers to act as beta testers (with no official way to opt-out) is the right and good thing to do. Fanboys stop at nothing.
  5. I would call that behavior suicide by cloning. Removing key features which stood out and thus become indistinguishable from the competiton. This utterly fails pretty much every time though, because your current customers get dismayed and new ones won't come - they will stay with the established product you cloned! Note, "cloning" and "copying features" are two different things. It's OK to copy a feature, say virtual desktops, but if you clone the whole experience (like the whole spying aspect) without adding a key benefit, you made your own product (even your whole company) irrelevant. This can be often seen in games, take Command and Conquer 4, where they have tossed the traditional base building the fans were accustomed to and copied the instant-action model of more popular competiton at the same. The result was that the players from the other titles stayed where the are, the established fans became angry and the franchise died.
  6. Sounds reasonably reasonable. And yet one of the baits that the shills are throwing all over the web is: "Forget about privacy, you lost it long ago, Windows 7 is as intrusive as the abomination". To be honest that has me a bit worried ... I know. What they are doing is producing logical fallacies non-stop. I've wrote a lengthy piece about this on C9 already regarding the "browsers auto-update, so Windows should too" BS: https://channel9.msdn.com/Forums/Coffeehouse/Faulty-update-time-And-again-W10/68126ba9799544399b9ba4f200d92e68 The logic of all the **** metro, W10 (and NuMS in general) fanboys goes always like this: 1. Boats swim 2. Boats and cars are vehicles 3. Cars swim Regarding W10 they also love the "all similar actions are completely equal" game: 1. Credit card companies always charged fees 2. You ordered a new credit card knowing this 3. The company charging 1000$ is completely fine
  7. Hardcoding the Windows Update URLs was about preventing malware exploiting the hosts file to kill updates. That was OK given that you had full control over updates. By the way, sorry for the language in the post above.
  8. **** them. By the way, Windows 10 kills hundreds of games because it comes without the securedisc driver (in opposite to W7 and 8). The only way to play these is to use a no-CD crack. And exactly this could be flagged as playing "counterfeit games". Basically MS can punish you for something they caused in the first place. And that's just one example how dangerous this EULA is. Just NO, NO, NO. Windows 10 is a no go. The line needs to be drawn! Somewhere it just needs to be drawn! What's next? How about "We will monitor your activities on this computer and automatically contact the police in case we find your behavior suspicious". Why not? Just a few years ago, the W10 EULA and practice would be unthinkable. I am also just sick and tired of the "what can you do about it?" attitude. Microsoft (and Google, Apple for that matter) is just a business. That's all. They are not our gods. They are not an invitable force of nature like weather and the seasons. They are just an ordinary bunch of f***s who happened to shill their asses to the top by exploiting perverted systems like stack ranking. Just staying on a Windows before W10 would be enough force them to reconsider their Orwell-trip. Come on consumers. Come f.. on! It's not like MS wasn't forced to backtrack a lot in the last three years.
  9. Of course W10 isn't doing this - Microsoft hates these customers. This is not an exaggeration. Most of you guys know I spent A LOT of time on Channel9 and other shill-havens and put up quite a fight there, and one thing I've learned dealing with MS reps during the W8 years: They took the public love affair for the iPhone and Google's services really personal. This guy in the link (MS employee) isn't far from the only employee/shill uttering the same thoughts on the various MS forums. Basically the customers are cattle who were blinded by the shiny of Apple and Google, despite their faults (price, privacy, short release cycles) that's why Microsoft should behave even worse than all the other companies combined, because these sheep deserve it anyway and will gobble it up regardless. W8 and W10 were designed with this spite mind. It almost sounds like conspiracy theory, but the shills/employees are quite frank about (another employee) it if you press them a bit.
  10. They count on it that after W7 goes the dodo, even the enterprise will fly back to the mothership, no matter what, because there is no true competition.
  11. I guess the only way to totally disable Cortana and telemetry is to find those IPs and implement a router-based firewall blocking those IPs. Unless MS is truly evil and hosts Windows Update and Microsoft.com on the same IP range, but that can be seen as both a curse and a blessing. That's disturbing. Off to learn more about what my router can do, and how to do it... -Noel If this stuff is true, then the sanest choice would be stop "being current" with Windows. Even if you create the perfect blocking rules in your router, with a single update MS can introduce more spying with bazillions of more IP-adresses to block. Their EULA, Azure, and the updater mechanisms in W10 makes this all perfectly possible. Sure you can cripple Windows Update completely, but in this case, staying on a pre-W10 version is the far better choice than nuking the updater AND trying to tame W10 left and right and on the router.
  12. Well, at least Microsoft's EULA is totally frank about it. They outright say that they collect your financial data. Unlike untrustworthy as***** companies like Google. How the heck is Microsoft supposed to do all this if you would block their IP adresses?! Ungrateful entitled whiners! Why aren't you complaining about your iPhones? Microsoft has finally woken up and the terror-reign of Apple is OVER!
  13. Seems like it really is wasting time if a solution to the problem is already known. The spying is a much worse issue. Don't fall into the trap of endlessly debating something that's no longer an issue. It takes attention away from the bigger problems. -Noel The spying is worse. But I wouldn't count on it that the update-blocker tool keeps working.
  14. At least on Windows 10 his thesis has no basis: You don't need to "check for updates" for any of this stuff - the OS monitors you regardless!
  15. Newsflash: Microsoft crippled Windows Update on W10 because "Grandma clicked on red X" https://channel9.msdn.com/Forums/Coffeehouse/Faulty-update-time-And-again-W10?page=3 Yeah, I know I am massively wasting time there, but that reply was too funny. The shills aren't even trying anymore and seem to operate on auto-pilot.
  16. Fresh rant on C9: https://channel9.msdn.com/Forums/Coffeehouse/Faulty-update-time-And-again-W10/68126ba9799544399b9ba4f200d92e68
  17. If you need an office program, you might try Libre Office 3.6, it works on Win2k, XP and 7 from my experience. B) NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. This might be unpopular to say, but LibreOffice is more of a problem than a soluton. Try Softmaker Office or Kingsoft Office. They look and feel far more like MS Office 2010. They also have better compatability with .docx LibreOffice is like Microsoft's best argument. Softmaker and Kingsoft are far better alternatives, yet they get almost no attention because of that thing. Libre/Open Office only helps MS entrenching their monopoly - and that's not so funny anymore, given how MS uglifies all their products. LibreOffice doesn't hold a candle against the other alternative offices, yet they are constantly neglected because LO and OO are in the publicity spotlight for no good reason and when people try to use them as the result of this publicity they flee back to MS. LibreOffice fanboys are basically the biggest Microsoft enablers. I know my outburst does sound slightly crazy, but I've really come to hate software that makes metrotarded MS looks good. It only helps NuMicrosoft.
  18. Office 2016 still can't hold a candle to 2010 in the beauty-department but at least it isn't bleached out anymore. It's just metrotarded.
  19. Windows 10 is a POS because it just cannot be trusted. That goes far beyond Windows 8's issues of shitty GUIs. Forced updates are bad enough, but Windows 10 promises forced upgrades. If they cook-up something that's even worse than the default GUI in W8 and with even more spyware than W10 for some BS reason the W10 EULAs would make it totally OK to force that crap on you and cut you off from any security updates immediately if you try to block it with tools. That's just not rational basis for a PC OS, no matter what the current hype is: On a machine you spent so much time of the day working, this threat is just not acceptable. Also, I am just sick of it to have to treat my own equipment as the enemy, but MS forces me to. The amount of tweaks to tame the spying and ugliness in W10 is just insane, especially given that at any moment they can force on you something with even more of it. I will stay on W7 for the forseeable future and wait and see. I also think there is the possibility that MS will be forced to backtrack on some of the insanity, just like they had with the Xbone, the start screen and bleached out Office. The story of "NuMicrosoft" is full of failures and retreats. The forced updates seem to really cause havoc already.
  20. Windows 10 kills thousands of older games. Strangely this hasn't made much news in the US-Media, so here are some German articles on this (Google Translator): W10 kills games Microsoft: Deal with it Deal.with.it And I love their excuses "It's because SECURITY!". Yeah, where's the f***ing security from all the Spyware and ads in Windows 10 itself? That s*** is more annoying than most third-party malware. But supplying a driver that was even there in Windows 8.1 to keep hundreds of games working would totally kill the OS, huh.
  21. The same overpaid hipsters who gave this design award also gave it to Windows Phone: http://www.winrumors.com/windows-phone-wins-idea-2011-peoples-choice-design-award/ This award is a sure sign for a flop.
  22. Now in hindsight: Was Windows 8 an eloberate plan to push OrwellOS, aka W10? The start screen on W8 was so bad, that anything resembling the old start menu is praised as best thing ever compared to it - that's how W10 gets accepted, despite the spyware in it. Imagine if W10 had the spyware AND the start screen. There would have been a revolt. It's hard to believe that Microsoft truly thought an abonimation like W8's GUI would work. The only argument against this theory is the high amount of executives getting the can post-W8 (Sinofsky, Ballmer, Reller, Larson-Green)
  23. It is malware. You are getting tricked, under the guise of an OS upgrade, into installing a package full of keyloggers, spyware and password sniffers. It even behaves in the open like malware, as seen in your screenshot. An unpatched Windows XP bogged down with IE toolbars had less malware in it than W10.
  24. It actually makes me depressed. The stuff Windows 10 does would have been the domain of conspiracy cracks a few years ago and now MS is publically boasting about its keylogging in the open like its the most natural thing ever that the OS sends your passwords, passphrases, e-mail contents and your whole browser track to the mothership. This makes me sick to the core. In all these big brother dystopias like 1984 etc. the people put up with it because they usually live under a brutal dictatorship and are under constant threat of being executed, but in reality, you don't need all that force: Directx 12 and Candy Crush is apparently all it takes.
  25. Ha, I just see that you can't even turn off Security Essentials/Windows Defender in this POS ("you can deactivate it, but we will turn it on after a while"). Installing Windows 10 is like getting married.
