  1. http://www.businessinsider.com/apple-ipad-units-sold-q2-2015-2015-4
  2. Apple's iPad sales numbers are sinking fast. (19,5 million in Q2 2014 - 12.6 million in Q2 2015) 23% less iPad sales than a year ago. It's ridiculously funny how fast the pundits are dropping tablets now: http://www.howtogeek.com/199483/tablets-arent-killing-laptops-but-smartphones-are-killing-tablets/ http://www.itproportal.com/2014/10/20/the-apple-ipad-air-2-is-proof-that-tablets-are-dying/ http://www.bloomberg.com/bw/articles/2014-05-01/tablet-sales-slowdown-comes-sooner-than-expected And that are articles from 2014, the 2015 sales slump even more. That was really smart by MS, crippling Windows for a market that was on the brink to flat-down. I am absolutely not surprised by the fast slow-down of tablets. Typing on them is pretty terrible, worse than on smart phones because you need two hands - so even facebooking, chatting and e-mail writing is a sub-par experience. And anything remotely productive, even light school work, is better done on a notebook/desktop by far. The only niche where they might work is presentation to customers and very light data input (salesmen) So they are pretty much only suitable for media consumption, but TVs (including consoles, DVR etc), smart phones and notebooks are strong contenders here as well. I am pretty sure tablets will be a niche product in the long run. I've been saying this all the time, others on this forum as well. Not because we are so smart, but because it was very easy to predict just by using a tablet.
  3. I am sure the win32 "bug" was fully intentional. No way anyone could have missed that. We're talking about not being able to launch Windows programs. It's on the same category as not booting on Intel processors. It's yet another "FU" to their established user base. I am pretty sure they will fix that though, because W10 would be completely broken without win32. Shipping the current broken build however is just one more dick-move in a very long list now.
  4. Had to shut up the metro on channel9 again (lengthy anti W10 rant)
  5. They won't completely retire local accounts for now because it would lead to tons of issues with Active Directory. They will hide them as much as possible however.
  6. Aha, NuMicrosoft being at it again: http://www.infoworld.com/article/2911704/microsoft-windows/ie-11-patch-kb-3038314-blocks-adding-search-providers-install-may-fail-with-error-80092004.html This company is plain predatory now. Way worse than the 90s "monopoly"-MS.
  7. Yes it is. It's now almost a research project I have with them. Just how much crazy will they accept from MS? I am astounded they started to defend the heavy forced 8.1 upgrade there.
  8. Wow, I have again quite the forum fight on Channel9: http://channel9.msdn.com/Forums/Coffeehouse/These-Windows-10-adwarepreloader-patches-are-packaged-with-important-security-updates-JUST-WTF I started with a weak premise and got into defense mode. Then I unleashed the artillery however (the forced 8.1 upgrade). Stuff gets shriek at this point.
  9. It all depends how much sanity is left at MS. If they force W10 on Windows 7 especially the backlash will be frigging huge. Do they still have some brain left to realize this though? That's the key question. Here's the config.xml file for the nag-screen in full length: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-security/suspicious-new-folder-windirsystem32gwx/e3661a2f-93f5-4d7c-a83f-2fcc25ed7ac2 Apparently ít's strictly aimed at home users ("DomainJoined":false, "EnterpriseSKU": false) and the ad-phase begins apparently when it hits RTM. Home users are the group which can protest the least..
  10. Did you guys know that the Windows 8.1 update was brute-forced on Windows 8 users? I guess the only reason it isn't widely known is because Windows 8 was such a success in general... This appeared automatically after important updates KB3008273 and KB2973544. And once this screen appeared, you had no choice except to postpone. And after the second time, even postponing didn't work anymore. http://superuser.com/questions/887706/how-to-disable-auto-upgrade-from-windows-8-0-to-8-1 http://www.askvg.com/how-to-stop-automatic-forced-upgrade-from-windows-8-to-windows-8-1/ http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_8-windows_install/forcing-me-to-upgrade-to-81-is-wrong/7c1261c6-2c5d-4cdb-a99d-8dd4706e8a36 http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_8-windows_update/force-fed-windows-81-and-need-to-get-rid-if-asap/826071ef-1001-484f-8359-4f113368a568
  11. Tiredness. The ones who cared already spent so much time with Windows 8 and all the other BS the company put up since 2012 (metro in office, VS, killing of technet, SBS, SL, XNA, WPF, the price increases of their server stack, of office by killing family and 2-PC licensing, the xbone drama).. That list is not complete. It's just so much overwhelming BS from this company. And just when one thought they are getting back on track you look at W10 and.. So, that's why there is less outrage today. Either you accept NuMicrosoft or you kinda move on.
  12. New Windows 10 trojan is making the rounds through Windows Update. That second Windows 10 related update Jorge talked about a few days ago appears now as an "important update" (and gets automatically installed). Until today it was "optional". KB2990214. See my earlier C9 post for a rundown on it. I just checked that on a PC that is really only used for basic Office stuff and never came into contact with anything Windows 10 related, not even a VM. Its description (in the Windows Update application) is still the standard "resolves issues" text, not a beep about W10 of course. Not even the word "update" is mentioned.
  13. Guess so. Man, imagine the fun one will have in Windows 10, where you can't deactivate any updates so far!
  14. Anyone here who still has auto-update on ON?
  15. Oh, NoelC. I only now noticed you are Noel Carboni on Channel9! Should have been obvious. I rember you from the technet forums as well. I was VeryBoringNickname there.
  16. You can't imagine that IE is in collusion with Windows Update to get your Windows 7 obliterated once and for all? This would be even for NuMicrosoft too crazy. I've deactivated all the download-checks and purge always all the cookies. For this to work IE phones home every ISO I download from the MS page and connects it with WU. Theoretically possible, but they must be REALLY f***ed up about Windows 10 to go THIS crazy far (wouldn't it be criminal when exposed?) I think they are still at the deep-end though: My suspicion is that they started to distribute this "update" to just everyone. See TELVM. That's crazy, too.
  17. Quote: The KB2990214 is an update that enables users with Windows 7 or Windows 8x to upgrade to the Windows 10 Technical Preview. It is only offered to users who have visited the Windows 10 Insider Preview website and selected the Get the Preview button. It was available starting on October 1, 2014 and was listed as an Important update. That's a bunch of bul*****. I get this update and I haven't installed anything Windows 10 related on this W7 machine. I have downloaded the technical preview though to run it in a VM. But WU cannot know about this, since you don't sign up with your Microsoft account into W7.
  18. Just checked. Yes, this update gets displayed for me as well (as an optional). It does indeed lead to the Windows 10 page.
  19. The channel9 thread gets more bizarre by the minute: http://channel9.msdn.com/Forums/Coffeehouse/There-is-no-escape-from-the-suck-train?page=6 I had to put down a.. Windows 8 apologist (!) with a huge W8 bash-post. Yes, W8, not W10. Wow. They still exist.
  20. It gets even better at the Cortana introduction: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6cOk5AeFyqo&t=24m40s The "excitement" the audience has is almost painful to watch. And here you almost feel sorry for the guy: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6cOk5AeFyqo&t=26m57s
  21. The resentment was mutual. Here's the video he talks about: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6cOk5AeFyqo This part is hilarious in a very sad way: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6cOk5AeFyqo&t=13m25s He announces that W10 will be free for previous Windows users. They obviously expect a huge cheering from the audience at this point, Steve Jobs-style.. well...
  22. Thanks, in case you haven't noticed already, I am wastingtimewithforums. Anyway, that thread gets really funny now: http://channel9.msdn.com/Forums/Coffeehouse/There-is-no-escape-from-the-suck-train?page=5 Discussion shifted to whether W10 should count as an upgrade to W7 at all, given its suckness.
  23. Another flare-up in the war, I see. BTW the first post on that page is a fabulous rundown of the many problems with Windows 10 -- among the very best I've seen! Thanks! Go ahead.
  24. New Channel9 fight: http://channel9.msdn.com/Forums/Coffeehouse/There-is-no-escape-from-the-suck-train?page=3
  25. Now that's what I call desperate. The users don't want to come to metro? Let metro come to them! I get it that they want to make money through the store, but shoving a GUI down the throats over and over that almost no ones likes and failed on pretty much every product its on isn't the ticket to nirvana. Beside the defused xbone (which is primarily a game launcher and you don't interact with the GUI much) is there at least one successful metro product? The fact that they all bombed might serve as a cluebat. Why make W10 look sane and usable when you can abuse your update mechanisms instead, right? So classy that the support page doesn't mention W10 at all and users had to handle this thing like a spyware download to find out what it's really about. *clap* *clap*. Just checked Windows Update myself.. that thing is now in the "important" category! It's now a recommended "important" update that installs automatically when auto-update is on!
