Maximus Decim Cumulative Update ver.2.11
MDGx replied to maximus-decim's topic in Windows 9x Member Projects
My guess is you probably need to have MS IE 5.5 SP2 or newer already installed:http://www.mdgx.com/toy.htm#IEX Then install MDAC 2.8 SP1: http://www.mdgx.com/add.htm#DAC If the ADODB.Stream patch still doesn't want to install on your computer, then install the "manual REG fix" detailed here: http://www.mdgx.com/ietoy.htm#AD Hope this helps. -

Q891711 + U891711 = Unofficial MS07-017 + MS05-002 .ANI fix
MDGx replied to MDGx's topic in Windows 9x Member Projects
The order you have chosen is ok.If you want more details, please see 98SE2ME READ1ST.TXT [the FAQ section]: http://www.mdgx.com/9s2m/READ1ST.TXT Please note that if you install MS official Q891711 patch after U891711, it will not install, because will not overwrite the newer file version builds installed by U891711. 98KRNLUP = can be installed at any time. May fix Kernel issues related (or not) to MS Q891711, U891711 + Tihiy KB891711 fix. 98UPDSYS = the WinME edition of this patch [ http://www.mdgx.com/web.htm#MEU ] installs as part of 98SE2ME options 1 and 2. No need to install the Win98 SE edition if you plan to install 98SE2ME and/or Maximus-Decim Native USB Drivers: http://www.msfn.org/board/?showtopic=43605 which should be included in your updates listed above. Hope this helps. Many thanks for your feedback.Sounds good. -
Thanks a lot for the patches. I'll post them here [DX8 patch]: http://www.mdgx.com/dx.htm#QX and here [ie55sp2 patch]: http://www.mdgx.com/ietoy.htm#IEC Bug I've noticed: 2 files inside the IE55sp2 patch have lost LFNs and now extract only as short file names [sFNs]: Q89668~1.CAT Q89668~1.INF which brings up errors, probably upon uninstall. Original file names are: Q896688_d.inf Q896688_me.cat You may wish to re-pack the ie55sp2 patch to preserve original LFNs, or delete them [if not needed] and any references to them inside all other files/scripts. Hope this helps. P.S.: No need to post the updated patch at Rapidshare, you can e-mail it to me, I'm going to post it at my site anyway. I'm using gmail, which doesn't accept zip or exe attachments. You need to rename the file to EEE or ZZZ, for example. Thanks.

Q891711 + U891711 = Unofficial MS07-017 + MS05-002 .ANI fix
MDGx replied to MDGx's topic in Windows 9x Member Projects
Yes, the 98(FE)/98SE Kernel patch is also recommended to install after this beta patch, and after all other related patches [MS official + Tihiy unofficial described in U891711.TXT]. Unfortunately I don't.I'll post the link here if I find one. CORRECTION: The two MS IE 6.0 SP1 windows lockup BUG is NOT related to this patch, and I have subsequently removed it from U891711.TXT. -

98 FE + 98 SE + ME updates + patches + (hot)fixes
MDGx replied to MDGx's topic in Pinned Topics regarding 9x/ME
IMHO:New HTML Help update files should be left alone the way MS distributed them, because each type of OS [9x or NTx] has its own specific functions/features, addressed within those DLLs/OCXs. I'm aware that the XP files are newer builds than 98/ME files, but as far as I can tell those builds are different on purpose, and each target a specific OS. This update fixes the same security bugs for all OSes, so there [probably] won't be any difference in functionality, no matter which build is used. my 2 ¢ -

98SE2ME = Killer Replacements: ME -> 98 SE
MDGx replied to MDGx's topic in Pinned Topics regarding 9x/ME
I installed option 3 [10-13-2005 98SE2ME edition] on my 98SE setup [heavily tweaked, running 98SE2ME option 2] and also on a new, from scratch install of 98SE.In both cases I could access Control Panel and all its applets ok 3 ways: - from Start button Settings menu - from Control Panel folder tweak: http://www.mdgx.com/last3.htm#SYSFOL - by running CONTROL.EXE. Sorry, can't reproduce the bug you experienced. Maybe there is some other software/update/pack/hotfix/driver/tool/tweak/game/etc on your computer that generates that error? Maybe your OS has some system restrictions in place to prevent running certain system applets/tools/features/etc? More info on system restrictions: http://www.mdgx.com/newtip9.htm#RESTRICT Hope this helps. -
98SE2ME = Killer Replacements: ME -> 98 SE
MDGx replied to MDGx's topic in Pinned Topics regarding 9x/ME
Don't know nothing about the French version, but in the German version you'll find it in win_9.cab in the directory win9x of the original installation CD. I guess it must be on the french CD, too. I believe WebMatze meant the updated sysdm.cpl build 4.90.3001 from MS hotfix Q272620:http://support.microsoft.com/?id=272620 found here [English only ]: http://www.mdgx.com/web.htm#WME Hope this helps. -
my 2 ¢ ... No need to upgrade to WinME if running 98SE, just install 98SE2ME option 2, and you get all newer USB, cameras, scanners, PnP, VPN, Themes enhancements. To get the Web folders and enhanced shell, folders + GUI, just install 98SE2ME option 3 [recommended to install options 1 or 2 first]. The only catch with 98SE2ME is that u need to already have a WinME setup CD [English, any release: Full, Update, OEM etc]. To get the latest USB 2.0 INFs, install NUSB [after u installed 98SE2ME options 1 or 2]: http://www.msfn.org/board/?showtopic=43605 The only WinME components 98SE2ME does not install are: movie maker media player internet explorer directx pchealth system restore WMI/WBEM UPnP compressed folders [installed by Plus! pack for Win98 = or u can install it manually from: http://www.mdgx.com/web.htm#WME = look for ZIPFLDR.DLL fix, extract the file, place it in %windir%\system and regsvr32 it] 98SE2ME: http://www.msfn.org/board/?showtopic=46349 Hope this helps.

How to boot up Windows 98 in Normal Mode from the MSDOS Boot Screen

Win98 FE + 98 SE specific tips: http://www.mdgx.com/newtip98.htm Search my entire site for a specific topic: http://www.mdgx.com/search.htm My site main page: http://www.mdgx.com/ Hope this helps. -
I am not familiar with that game. I've tried 98SE2ME option 3 [the one that installs shell32.dll from ME setup CD] with lots of apps + games, but never seen that or similar error. ;( Please keep in mind that one needs to install the entire option 3 the way it is, not just shell32.dll. Installing only shell32.dll form ME will lock up the 98SE OS. Have you tried to contact the game developers/vendors for support/patches/etc?

I took a closer look at DOSBox, and it does not apply/use any of the "normal" [microsoft/intel x86 specific] memory mapping schemes I've talked about in my previous posts. On the PC I tested it on, even with huge GeForce video + HPT RAID BIOSes UMA blocks already occupied, it still provides 637 KB or conventional RAM. Impressive. I guess it uses a linux/unix specific memory mapping technique, and I'm not familiar enough with *nix OSes [yet] to know those routines. My only gripe with DOSBox is that it has only a limited number of embedded commands 1 can use [taken also from linux].
