  2. Probably all of them [in theory], because as far as I know none of the files updated by the unofficial patches replace Tihiy's RP files. But I haven't experimented this yet. Tihiy may have more details about this subject. Hope this helps.
  3. You are probably refering to the older U891711 patch files, that were included with Gape's SP2 2.1a. Please try the new ones: http://www.msfn.org/board/?showtopic=58780 Gape knows about the new versions, and will probably include the new ones in the next SP2 release. Please post your comments/feedback about U891711 patch in this forum: http://www.msfn.org/board/?showtopic=58780 Hope this helps.
  4. Here is the answer from the author of the GDI/WMF patches: ________________________________________ Here is the answer from the author of the GDI/WMF patches: Hope this helps.
  5. ...and more importantly... I'm not shutting down a system that has had over 3 months of uptime so far just to replace a few files for protection against a supposedly "critical" vulnerability, but also cause resource leaks in the process. Here is the answer from the author of the GDI + WMF patch: From now on please post any comments/feedback regarding Windows 98 SE/ME patches in this forum: http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=46581 This way I can read all posts and answer accordingly. Thanks for your time. Hope this helps.
  6. Anything wrong with the 77.72 drivers that I'm unaware of ?Please see this post:http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?s=&sho...ndpost&p=345887 Hope this helps.
  7. FYI: You probably installed 98SE2ME [if using Win98 SE] and/or one of Petr's UPDATE.SYS fixes: - WinME fix: http://www.mdgx.com/web.htm#MEU - Win98 SE fix: http://www.mdgx.com/web.htm#9SU 98SE2ME [options 1 + 2] also installs newer sysdm.cpl from WinME hotfix: which I modded to display "Windows 98 Sesond Edition" instead of "Windows Millennium Edition" in System Properties control panel applet.System Properties CPL without any updates: http://www.mdgx.com/ver95.gif Hope this helps.
  8. Bethrezen: If you determine that your lockup is caused by U891711, please post your feedback in the U891711 forum: http://www.msfn.org/board/?showtopic=58780 More details about these patches: http://www.mdgx.com/files/U891711.TXT Hope this helps.
  9. I posted something related to this subject here:http://www.msfn.org/board/?s=&showtopic=65...ndpost&p=447938
  10. DISPEX.DLL 5.6.0.6626 is also included in [English]:- MSE 5.6 build 5.6.0.8825 for Windows 98/NT4/ME [665 KB]: http://download.microsoft.com/download/4/c...c1c/scr56en.exe - MSE 5.6 build 5.6.0.6626 for Windows 95/OSR1/OSR2 [716 KB]: http://download.microsoft.com/download/win...-US/scr56en.exe Hope this helps.
  11. That would be very easy, but requires NT4 SP5 or newer and MS IE 5/6 already installed.I'll make one in the next few days. Bummer, that's a big bug. Did you try to send MS feedback about it? Maybe they can correct the INF scripts. [?]
  12. I thought of using INF and/or VBS scripts [i have no programming knowledge, any help from you guys is always appreciated], but that would require a major rewrite, and unfortunately I don't have as much time as I need to do this. Maybe 1 day...BTW: Yelling never helps. But feedback does. I have checked option 2 files list against XP SP2 files list: http://www.mdgx.com/98-5.htm#XP and cabinet.dll is the only 1 that needed to be removed from option 2, because the 1 installed by XP SP2 is newer. EXTRAC32.EXE 5.2.3790.0 installed by 98SE2ME [all options] is newer than XP SP2, because it is from 2003 Server setup CD. As you well know, I've spent 1 year [since 1-20-2005 when I started this] creating + improving 98SE2ME, but like everybody else, I'm not perfect, therefore 98SE2ME cannot be [especially because of the nature of this particular project] perfect, there will always be some kind of flaw, error, bug etc... And that's why I opened up this forum, to get feedback from as many as possible testers [thank you guys!]. IMHO that's the only way this project can be improved. Therefore please keep sending your feedback, it is always welcome and valuable, because this way I can correct whatever errors/bugs/flaws/etc I fail to catch on my own. Hope this helps. ____________________________________ I'm afraid you need to post more details about what exactly you want 98SE2ME to do.In case this is what you want... please see the "FAQ" chapter from READ1ST.TXT: READ1ST.TXT Here's a fragment: Hope this helps.
  13. This is especially for Petr, Gape, the_guy and all other SP developers: * Microsoft Windows 98 SE/ME Embedded Web Fonts T2EMBED.DLL build 5.00.2195.7073 Security Vulnerability Fix: http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/...n/ms06-002.mspx - Windows ME English Fix = available only at WindowsUpdate.com [216 KB]: http://download.windowsupdate.com/msdownlo...7ce10c660a1.EXE - Windows 98 SE English Fix = available only at WindowsUpdate.com [211 KB]: http://download.windowsupdate.com/msdownlo...b8bd1b389f9.EXE - Slovenian Fix [T2EMBED.DLL identical with English Fix, but installs on Windows 98 SE/ME Slovenian Edition]: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...&displaylang=sl Slovenian Fix [213 KB]: http://download.microsoft.com/download/2/9...B908519-SLV.EXE - Slovakian Fix [T2EMBED.DLL identical with English Fix, but installs on Windows 98 SE/ME Slovakian Edition]: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...&displaylang=sk Slovakian Fix [213 KB]: http://download.microsoft.com/download/f/6...B908519-SKY.EXE - Thai Fix [T2EMBED.DLL identical with English Fix, but installs on Windows 98 SE/ME Thai Edition]: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...&displaylang=th Thai Fix [212 KB]: http://download.microsoft.com/download/7/5...B908519-THA.EXE MS says Slovenian, Slovakian + Thai Fixes are only for Windows 98 SE [?] at all 3 download pages above, but I believe they can also be installed on Windows ME. MS also says Slovenian, Slovakian + Thai Fixes are only for Windows ME [?] at MS06-002 Security Bulletin page: http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/...n/ms06-002.mspx under the FAQ section: click the [+] sign by the "Frequently asked questions (FAQ) related to this security update" link at page above. WARNING: The installers [*.INF files] of these Fixes contain a major BUG, caught by erpdude8: http://www.msfn.org/board/?s=&showtopic=46...ndpost&p=447921 All these Fixes require MS Internet Explorer 5.5 SP2 or newer already installed: http://www.mdgx.com/toy.htm#IEX T2EMBED.DLL 5.00.2195.7073 is identical with the one from Windows 2000 SP4 Fix [565 KB, English]: http://download.microsoft.com/download/4/2...519-x86-ENU.EXE Windows 98 SE + ME setup CD-ROMs both install T2EMBED.DLL build 0.2.0.69 MS Internet Explorer 6.0 + 6.0 SP1 both install T2EMBED.DLL build 0.2.0.81 Hope this helps.
  14. NirCmd also kills processes/TSRs from the command line [examples]: NIRCMD killprocess STATEMGR NIRCMD killprocess STMGR NirCmd [freeware]: http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/nircmd.html Hope this helps.
  15. The unofficial IE Q896688 patch was created by a concerned user, it is not official from Microsoft, therefore I cannot update it whenever MS updates their official IE cumulative patch. But recently I have received the newer unofficial IE905915 patch from the author, and I'll post it as soon as I can at my site. Hope this helps. I have reproduced the error you mention when trying to install MSASN1.DLL from Q828028.After reboot, all I have in %windir%\system is MSASN1.QFE [the newer build 5.00.2195.6905 from Gape's SP2] and no DLL. I had to rename it back to MSASN1.DLL to make it work. Therefore I have added a warning: * Microsoft Windows 98/98 SE MSASN1.DLL build 5.00.2195.6824 Security Vulnerability Fix: http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/...n/ms04-007.mspx Direct download [166 KB, English]: http://www.mdgx.com/files/Q828028.EXE More info: http://erpman1.tripod.com/current/asn1fix.html Do NOT install this Fix IF already installed Unofficial Windows 98 SE SP2: http://exuberant.ms11.net/98sesp.html which installs newer MSASN1.DLL build 5.00.2195.6905! Hope this helps.
  16. Actually, I just tried 81.98 on another Windows 98 SE computer, and it does lock up whenever FastReboot is enabled. Also locks up when trying to restart Windows after exiting to native MS-DOS by typing WIN and pressing Enter. So I had to revert back to older 71.84 , which so far is bug free.
  17. I have updated the WinME GDI patch installation instructions:http://www.mdgx.com/web.htm#MEU The patch author date-stamped the GDI files for Win98 SE. I do not know the reason why. Hope this helps.
  18. I will ask.BTW: This fix is also available here: http://ftp.isu.edu.tw/pub/CPatch/msupdate/.../289635usa8.exe Done. MSASN1.DLL Q828028 fix is not by me, it was obtained by Petr from Microsoft.I am aware that it is older than MSASN1.DLL from Gape's SP2 2.1a, but Q828028 is the only one available for separate install. Please notice that all patches at my site which start with Microsoft are official patches from MS. Similarly, all patches at my site which start with Unofficial are unofficial patches by me or by others. Hope this helps.
  19. Thanks for noticing.I have removed WinME CABINET.DLL from 98SE2ME. Please download the updated file: http://www.mdgx.com/4 Details: http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=46349 Hope this helps.

  22. Unofficial WMF GDI patches have been created for Windows 98 SE + Windows ME: WinME GDI32.DLL + GDI.EXE 4.90.3002 fix: http://www.mdgx.com/web.htm#MEU Win98 SE GDI32.DLL + GDI.EXE 4.10.2226 fix: http://www.mdgx.com/web.htm#9SU More info about these patches: http://www.msfn.org/board/?showtopic=46581&st=193 Official MS info: http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/...n/ms06-001.mspx Hope this helps.
  23. Petr That's a personal note from the author of the patch. But the author told me to post this patch without asking for beta testing, because... Hope this helps.
  24. Please see top of this topic to download and install updated patch:http://www.msfn.org/board/?showtopic=58780 It is bad that there are two different KB891711.EXE 4.10.2224 files with the same size and date. Petr I thought of that too, but I tested the updated patch with the newer file and installed it over the older one, and installed ok under Win98 SE + ME.Hope this helps.
  25. Posted unofficial patches [by anonymous developer] for: - Windows 98 FE (First Edition) - Windows 98 SE - Windows ME to fix the Security Vulnerability described in MS06-001 Security Bulletin: http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/...n/ms06-001.mspx This exposes Win98 (FE)/98 SE/ME computers to *critical* security risk when a malware WMF [Windows Metafile Format] file is accessed from the internet [embedded into web page], due to a flaw in Windows graphical rendering engine [GRE]. These patches replace GDI32.DLL + GDI.EXE from %windir%\SYSTEM [usually C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM] with newer versions [click links below to download patches]: - GDI32.DLL + GDI.EXE 4.10.2003 for Win98 FE: http://www.mdgx.com/web.htm#9SU - GDI32.DLL + GDI.EXE 4.10.2226 for Win98 SE: http://www.mdgx.com/web.htm#9SU - GDI32.DLL + GDI.EXE 4.90.3002 for WinME: http://www.mdgx.com/web.htm#MEU Patch author's explanation: BTW: The author told me to post these patches without asking for beta testing, because... Hope this helps.
