  1. My bad, VIP.386 4.10.2227 is actually installed by Maximus-Decim's Cumulative Update:http://www.msfn.org/board/?showtopic=50611 not by NUSB. I have no idea where he got that file, I couldn't find any reference to it at Microsoft web site, so I assumed he [or someone else] modded the older VIP.386 4.10.2226 from Q259728. [?]
  2. I have tried 98SE2ME 12-4-2005 [current] edition, options 1 + 2, on 2 different computers, both with a fresh install of 98SE OS + MS IE 6.0 SP1. Did not notice any errors during or after the installation. If you have installed any other updates/software/patches/fixes/etc before 98SE2ME, please contact their authors/forums/web sites/emails/etc to obtain support. PS: This is the proper forum to post any issues related to 98SE2ME: http://www.msfn.org/board/?showtopic=46349 If you post 98SE2ME related issues anywhere else, I may not see them, or if I do, I may see them later, way after you have posted them, which means you either won't get any answer, or if you will, it will be considerably delayed [as is the case with this post]. Hope this helps.
  3. Guys, Let's make this clear once and for all: OLEAUT32.DLL 2.40.4526 from Win2000 Q886765 hotfix [memory leak fix]: http://www.mdgx.com/add.htm#OLE is the ONLY file from OLE 2.40.4526 update above that does NOT work properly with ANY 95/98/ME/NT4 OSes. ALL other 3 files from Q885765 above DO work properly with ALL 95/98/ME/NT4 OSes: ASYCFILT.DLL 2.40.4526 OLEPRO32.DLL 5.0.4526 STDOLE2.TLB 2.40.4526 Therefore OLDER OLEAUT32.DLL 2.40.4522 from Win2000 SP4 MUST be used instead. OLEAUT32.DLL 2.40.4522 DOES work properly with ALL 95/98/ME/NT4 OSes. Therefore Unofficial OLE Update build 2.40.4526 [OLEUP.EXE] from: http://www.mdgx.com/add.htm#OLE can be installed on ANY 95/98/ME/NT4 OS without ANY problems so far. OLEUP.EXE above installs all these 4 files: ASYCFILT.DLL 2.40.4526 OLEAUT32.DLL 2.40.4522 OLEPRO32.DLL 5.0.4526 STDOLE2.TLB 2.40.4526 Hope this helps.
  4. Can I get a link? Ive always wanted to be able to save to jpg and png from mspaint.Here:http://www.mdgx.com/add.htm#PNT File name GRPHFLTS.EXE [1.65 MB]. Note that you should install fixed MSPAINT.EXE [9x/ME] first. Enjoy.
  5. Like Gape said, 98SE2ME installs newer versions of system files from WinME setup CD or even newer WinME hotfixes [patched files]. Please see READ1ST.TXT for details [the "FAQ" chapter, where it starts with: "* 98SE2ME does NOT interfere with Gape's Windows 98 SE Service Pack 2 (SP2):"]: http://www.mdgx.com/9s2m/READ1ST.TXT Full list of files replaced by 98SE2ME is here: http://www.mdgx.com/98-5.htm#FME If you installed HH.EXE, HHSETUP.DLL, HHCTRL.OCX, ITIRCL.DLL + ITSS.DLL from my older unofficial HHUPD.EXE update [which I have recently replaced with newer files update], and then if you try to install the official one from: http://www.mdgx.com/add.htm#HHU the newer files will not be overwritten, and you may have to replace them yourself by hand. They go to: - %windir% [usually C:\WINDOWS]: HH.EXE - %windir%\SYSTEM [usually C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM]: HHSETUP.DLL HHCTRL.OCX ITIRCL.DLL ITSS.DLL If this is the case, make sure you register them properly [after you copy them to proper directories = see above] by running this batch file: ECHO OFF %windir%\SYSTEM\REGSVR32 /S %windir%\SYSTEM\HHCTRL.OCX %windir%\SYSTEM\REGSVR32 /S %windir%\SYSTEM\ITSS.DLL %windir%\SYSTEM\REGSVR32 /S %windir%\SYSTEM\ITIRCL.DLL EXIT MOUHID.VXD is not replaced [nor installed] by 98SE2ME. Newer VIP.386 [build 4.10.2227] is installed by 98SE2ME options 1 + 2. VIP.386 4.10.2227 is also installed by Maximus-Decim's NUSB: http://www.msfn.org/board/?showtopic=43605 Hope this helps.
  6. Try: - current drivers for your Soundstorm card. - current drivers for your mobo chipset + sound chip. - as an alternative [or if u already tried all of the above], try installing 98SE2ME option 2: http://www.msfn.org/board/?showtopic=46349 but make sure you allow it to create a backup first. The backup will be created in C:\W98SEOLD , and u can always restore from there, either the full OS by running C:\9!M\98RESTOR.BAT , or file by file if u wish by copying 1 file at a time back to original location [certain files won't allow to be replaced unless u boot to native MS-DOS first]. 98SE2ME READ1ST.TXT: http://www.mdgx.com/9s2m/READ1ST.TXT has all necessary details on how to do all this. Or u can exit 98SE2ME without installing anything [press N at the main batch screen], and then modify C:\9!M\E0!X.BAT [cut + paste in Notepad] and then run it by itself to install only the *.SYS files in %windir%\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS , if u don't want to install the entire 98SE2ME [over 700 system files from WinME]. Note that some of the newer SYS files are located in C:\9!M . Full list of files in C:\Windows\System32\Drivers [scroll down to respective directory]: http://www.mdgx.com/98-5.htm#FME PS: 98SE2ME needs either a WinME setup CD or all WinME CAB files in the same directory, located on any of your local fixed/removable drives/partitions. Hope this helps.
  7. Done:http://www.mdgx.com/add.htm#OLE
  8. PsycoUnc: Correct, only the CABs in \WIN9X are needed [all others are probably OEM/vendor custom CABs with drivers + tools from the company where the PC was purchased from], and they can be anywhere on any of your drives, but they should all be in the same directory/folder. Otherwise the script + tool I'm using to detect them will either (1) fail, or (2) will take waaay to long to extract files from CABs. Personally I haven't tried to put them in more than 1 directory/drive, but 1 could do that just for the sake of experimenting. Hope this helps.
  9. eidenk: The answer from the author:
  10. ASPI layer drivers for both Adaptec/Roxio and Ahead/Nero: http://www.mdgx.com/drv.htm#CDR
  11. eidenk: Here's U891711 author's answer to your comments: Hope this helps.
  12. Noted, will add a warning. Please do send me Q278368, I don't have it. Many thanks in advance.
  13. The single "n" spelling is wrong [as you well know], therefore MS developers need sometimes to check their spelling. WinME hotfixes contain CAT files which are digital signatures [MDSum or MD5Sum probably ??] of newly installed files, and because of that System Restore always updates its database accordingly. The INF file usually contain a postsetup command to run [generic example]: %windir%\SYSTEM\SUCATREG /D:Qxxxxxx.CAT after respective CAT file was copied to %windir%\INF\CATALOG folder. I have never tried to find out how CAT files are created by MS. Hope this helps.
  14. I prefer Programmer's File Editor 32-bit (PFE32): http://www.mdgx.com/toy.htm#TXT but am also partial to CREdit + Programmer's Notepad (PN) [see URL above]. BTW: 98SE2ME installs PFE32 as Notepad replacement [option 5]: http://www.msfn.org/board/?showtopic=46349
  15. MajorGeeks just posted SP 2.1a today, 12-5-2005 [i guess the news got to them late ]: http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4131.html
  16. And I thought every1 already knew that, ever since I started this project almost 1 year ago [Jan 20 2005]... Please read the 1st post in this forum for requirements, which include a WinME setup CD or full set of *.CABs [English]: http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=46349 And I believe it is safe to assume you already know this is because both I and MSFN forums do NOT promote/support/allow piracy. Otherwise, I'd just post a full ISO on warez sites. BTW: WinME setup CDs are a dime a dozen on ebay, if u need 1. Or u can "borrow" a friend's/coworker's/family member's CD. Hope this helps.
  17. Try newest Siemens SpeedStream 1001 driver [1001.SYS build 1.00.0903.2001]: http://kb.efficient.com/article.asp?article=45942&p=351 or try: http://subscriber.communications.siemens.c...etworking.shtml This is the INF file I'm using. I have modded 1001.INF a while back to allow install on all 9x + NTx OSes [i'm using it successfully on 98SE, ME + XP]: ; 1001.INF - Siemens SpeedStream USB 10/100 Ethernet Adapter ; Windows 95/NT4/98/2000/ME/XP/2003 [Version] Signature=$CHICAGO$ Compatible=1 Class=Net ClassGUID={4d36e972-e325-11ce-bfc1-08002be10318} Provider=Siemens DriverVer=10/18/2001,1.00.0903.2001 [Manufacturer] Siemens=Siemens [ControlFlags] ExcludeFromSelect=USB\VID_067C&PID_1001, \ USB\VID_083A&PID_5046 [Siemens] "Siemens SpeedStream USB 10/100 Ethernet Adapter"=1001.Ndi,USB\VID_067C&PID_1001 "Siemens SpeedStream USB 10/100 Ethernet Adapter"=1001E.Ndi,USB\VID_083A&PID_5046 ; 95/98/ME main sections: [1001.Ndi] AddReg=1001.Reg,1001.Params,1001.Con.Reg CopyFiles=1001.ndis.copyfiles [1001E.Ndi] AddReg=1001E.Reg,1001.Params,1001.Con.Reg CopyFiles=1001.ndis.copyfiles ; NT4/2000/XP/2003 main sections: [1001.Ndi.NT] AddReg=1001.NT.Reg,1001.Params,1001.Con.Reg Characteristics=0x84 BusType=1 CopyFiles=1001.ndis.copyfiles,1001.ndis.copyfiles.NT [1001.Ndi.NT.Services] AddService=1001,2,1001.Service,Common.EventLog [1001E.Ndi.NT] AddReg=1001.NT.Reg,1001.Params,1001.Con.Reg Characteristics=0x84 BusType=1 CopyFiles=1001.ndis.copyfiles,1001.ndis.copyfiles.NT [1001E.Ndi.NT.Services] AddService=1001,2,1001.Service,Common.EventLog ; 95/98/ME: [1001.Reg] HKR,Ndi,DeviceID,,USB\VID_067C&PID_1001 HKR,,AdapterName,,1001 HKR,Ndi,CardType,,"PNP" HKR,,AdapterName,,1001 HKR,,DevLoader,,*ndis,*ntkern,*ndis HKR,,DeviceVxDs,,1001.SYS HKR,NDIS,MajorNdisVersion,1,05 HKR,NDIS,MinorNdisVersion,1,00 HKR,NDIS,LogDriverName,,1001 HKR,Ndi\Interfaces,DefUpper,,"ndis3" HKR,Ndi\Interfaces,DefLower,,"ethernet" HKR,Ndi\Interfaces,UpperRange,,"ndis3" HKR,Ndi\Interfaces,LowerRange,,"ethernet" HKR,Ndi,HelpText,,"Siemens SpeedStream USB 10/100" [1001E.Reg] HKR,Ndi,DeviceID,,USB\VID_083A&PID_5046 HKR,,AdapterName,,1001 HKR,Ndi,CardType,,"PNP" HKR,,AdapterName,,1001 HKR,,DevLoader,,*ndis,*ntkern,*ndis HKR,,DeviceVxDs,,1001.SYS HKR,NDIS,MajorNdisVersion,1,05 HKR,NDIS,MinorNdisVersion,1,00 HKR,NDIS,LogDriverName,,1001 HKR,Ndi\Interfaces,DefUpper,,"ndis3" HKR,Ndi\Interfaces,DefLower,,"ethernet" HKR,Ndi\Interfaces,UpperRange,,"ndis3" HKR,Ndi\Interfaces,LowerRange,,"ethernet" HKR,Ndi,HelpText,,"Siemens SpeedStream USB 10/100" [1001.Params] HKR,,TxPacketDesc,0,"40" HKR,,RxPacketDesc,0,"20" HKR,,MediaSel,0,"1" HKR,,FlowControl,0,"1" HKR,,FlowControl_Tx,0,"0" HKR,,AlivePara,0,"2" HKR,,FlowControl_Rx,0,"0" [1001.Con.Reg] HKR,Ndi\Params\MediaType,ParamDesc,,"Media Type" HKR,Ndi\Params\MediaType,default,,"0" HKR,Ndi\Params\MediaType,type,,"enum" HKR,Ndi\Params\MediaType\enum,0,,"AutoSense" HKR,Ndi\Params\MediaType\enum,1,,"10BaseT" HKR,Ndi\Params\MediaType\enum,2,,"10BaseT Full_Duplex" HKR,Ndi\Params\MediaType\enum,3,,"100BaseTX" HKR,Ndi\Params\MediaType\enum,4,,"100BaseTX Full_Duplex" HKR,Ndi\Params\MediaType,flag,1,"20","00","00","00" HKR,Ndi\Params\MagicPkt,ParamDesc,,"Magic Packet" HKR,Ndi\Params\MagicPkt,default,,"0" HKR,Ndi\Params\MagicPkt,type,,"enum" HKR,Ndi\Params\MagicPkt\enum,0,,"Enable" HKR,Ndi\Params\MagicPkt\enum,1,,"Disable" HKR,Ndi\Params\MagicPkt,flag,1,"20","00","00","00" HKR,Ndi\Params\LinkWakeup,ParamDesc,,"Link Status Wakeup" HKR,Ndi\Params\LinkWakeup,default,,"0" HKR,Ndi\Params\LinkWakeup,type,,"enum" HKR,Ndi\Params\LinkWakeup\enum,0,,"Enable" HKR,Ndi\Params\LinkWakeup\enum,1,,"Disable" HKR,Ndi\Params\LinkWakeup,flag,1,"20","00","00","00" ; NT4/2000/XP/2003: [1001.NT.Reg] HKR,Ndi\Interfaces,LowerRange,0,"ethernet" HKR,Ndi\Interfaces,UpperRange,0,"ndis5" HKR,Ndi,Service,0,"1001" HKR,,Platform,0,"1" [1001.Service] DisplayName="Siemens SpeedStream USB 10/100 Ethernet Adapter" ServiceType=1 StartType=3 ErrorControl=0 ServiceBinary=%12%\1001.SYS LoadOrderGroup=NDIS,NTKERN,NDIS AddReg=TextModeFlags.Reg [Common.EventLog] AddReg=Common.AddEventLog.Reg [Common.AddEventLog.Reg] HKR,,EventMessageFile,0x00020000,%%SystemRoot%%\SYSTEM32\NETEVENT.DLL HKR,,TypesSupported,0x00010001,7 [TextModeFlags.Reg] HKR,,TextModeFlags,0x00010001,0x0001 [1001.ndis.copyfiles] 1001.SYS [1001.ndis.copyfiles.NT] 1001.SYS [DestinationDirs] 1001.ndis.copyfiles=11 1001.ndis.copyfiles.NT=12 [SourceDisksNames] 1=,,0 Hope this helps.

  19. To add only USB + Firewire + WDM *.SYS driver support from ME to 98SE [in case NUSB doesn't work for you], please follow these steps: - d/l + install Gape's SP 2.1a: http://www.msfn.org/board/?showtopic=61749 - d/l + install 98SE2ME [2.2 MB, English only]: http://www.msfn.org/board/?showtopic=46349 - Close the batch [98SE2ME.PIF which runs 98SE2ME.BAT from C:\9!M folder] without installing anything. - Edit E0!X.BAT in Notepad. - Search for all files that go into %windir%\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS and for the 2 files that go into %windir%\SYSTEM\IOSUBSYS [NTMAPHLP.PDR + USBMPHLP.PDR] . - Add also the lines for [these files go into %windir%\SYSTEM]: VIP.386 USBUI.DLL HID.DLL HIDCI.DLL - Keep [cut + paste] all lines above into E0!X.BAT and delete all others [except @ECHO OFF (1st line) and EXIT (last line)]. Complete list of files installed by 98SE2ME: http://www.mdgx.com/98-5.htm#FME - Save your file. - Run E0!X.BAT by itself from within the C:\9!M folder. Make sure your WinME setup CD is inside your CD/DVD drive or have all WinME *.CAB files anywhere on your drives/partitions. - Make sure u install WinME USER32.DLL + USER.EXE 4.90.3001 from C:\9!M into %windir%\SYSTEM or if u prefer, d/l + install Win98SE USER32.DLL + USER.EXE 4.10.2231 update [also installed by Gape's SP]: http://ftp.isu.edu.tw/pub/CPatch/msupdate/.../291362usa8.exe - Reboot. - Done. - If something doesn't work, d/l + install NUSB: http://www.msfn.org/board/?showtopic=43605 Hope this helps.
  20. Examples of multi-boot autoexec.bat, autoexec.dos, config.sys + config.dos are part of W9511D.EXE + W95-11D.ZIP [offline reading]: http://www.mdgx.com/95.htm *.DOS files are used by MS-DOS 6.xx [renamed to *.BAT + *.SYS respectively]. To learn how to tweak autoexec.bat + config.sys files, please read MEMORY.TXT, also part of W95-11D.EXE + W95-11D.ZIP. MSDOS.SYS guide: http://www.mdgx.com/msdos.htm Hope this helps.
  21. Many thanks for your offer.Petr sent me those patches too. [thanks Petr] Now I have these new patches that I need to post [unsorted, some may be posted already]: - Windows ME: ME268452.EXE ME272620.EXE ME289635.EXE ME300889.EXE ME301540.EXE ME304708.EXE ME307908.EXE ME309081.EXE ME311430.EXE ME314417.EXE ME321635.EXE - Windows NT 4.0 Workstation: KB823803.EXE KB824105.EXE KB840987.EXE KB841356.EXE KB841533.EXE KB873339.EXE KB873350.EXE KB885249.EXE KB885835.EXE KB885836.EXE KB891711.EXE KB896358.EXE ____________________________________ eidenk: About OLEAUT32.DLL 2.40.4522: I've been using it for at least a year, and I've tried tons of programs, tools, games etc in 98 SE. Works ok so far. BTW: I just installed eMule 0.46c [newest version available at http://www.emule-project.net/]. Works ok. I'm using: ASYCFILT.DLL 2.40.4526 OLEAUT32.DLL 2.40.4522 OLEPRO32.DLL 5.0.4526 STDOLE2.TLB 2.40.4526 which are installed by running [newest versions from Win2000 Q886765 hotfix]: http://www.mdgx.com/files/OLEUP.EXE found here: http://www.mdgx.com/add.htm#OLE together with other older OLE Updates. Note: OLEAUT32.DLL 2.40.4526 is the only file that doesn't work properly with any 9x/ME or NT4 OSes. Hope this helps.
  22. U891711 update: Author's note:
  23. I am also aware of the different builds/file dates/inconsistencies, but erpdude8 wanted the XP version to test on his computer(s), so I posted it together with the other HTML update packages.I have not noticed any difference of functionality between the official 98SE and unofficial HHUPD from XP. Do you think I should remove the unofficial HHUPD? I can also bundle the MUI files with the official 98SE/ME HTML files, and repost. This way users have the choice of installing the MUI files, without (re)installing MS IE 5 or 6.
  24. I'm sincerely sorry about your troubles, and I hope you get better fast. Please accept my best wishes. btw: Merry holidays + all the best for 2006.
  25. I have also been experiencing random crashes with image/icon editing programs, with both official + unofficial 891711 patches. So I figured out those errors were not related to any of those patches, but to the way they both affect the LoadImage function. So now that U891711 [to my knowledge] turned out to be a better and less buggy patch, I have uninstalled them all for good. Hope this helps.
