  2. Try this command line [single line]:RegEdit /e Vmmlist.txt Please notice that regedit export function from the command line doesn't allow to export fragments from the registry, only the entire registry. You can export registry fragments [as REG files which can be saved with any file extension] only from within regedit's Windows interface (UI). But you can open vmmlist.txt in a text editor/viewer better than Notepad [all free(ware), take your pick]: http://www.mdgx.com/toy.htm#TXT that can open ASCII text files larger than 64 KB. This way you can locate the reg key you wish. VMM32 guide + tools [download VMMTOOLS.ZIP] to restore working vmm32.vxd [if corrupted]: http://www.mdgx.com/98-3.htm#VXDBUG HTH
  3. Actually, Q320798 fixes a bug that involves Korean web pages + DOCs, but the DLL itself is for English editions of 98FE/98SE [uS + UK]. Check it out: * Microsoft Windows 98/98 SE Slow Office DOCs + Korean HTML Pages KERNEL32.DLL (4.10.2001 for Win98/98 SP1 + 4.10.2225 for Win98 SE) Fix: http://support.microsoft.com/?id=320798 Direct download [382 KB, English]: http://www.mdgx.com/files/Q320798.EXE Maybe we should consider that the discrepancy between file date + file size might be a M$ mistake [example: posted a new version of the patch, but forgot to update the web page]?! They are known to make such mistakes in other similar cases. HTH
  4. Q920670.EXE updated: * Unofficial Windows 98/98 SE/NT4 SP6a/ME Hyperlink Object HLINK.DLL 5.2.3790.2748 Security Vulnerability Fix: http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/...n/ms06-050.mspx Direct download [163 KB, English]: http://www.mdgx.com/files/Q920670.EXE Please try again see if it works ok. I'll wait about Q909363 until the_gui sends me the newer Q919587 update, and then I'll replace the buggy one with the new one. Thanks. ___________________________________________ winxpi: I got the source for IE918899 v2. I'll try to fix it, and if I do, I'll post it here. Thanks a bunch.
  5. I have remarked [::] all "IF NOT "%windir%"=="" GOTO N@" lines in all batch files. That is until I have time to convert all autoexec.bat code to wininit.ini. Please try 98SE2ME again, see if it works ok this time [3 MB]: http://www.mdgx.com/4 Yes, I do include code in O2.BAT [which installs options 1 + 2] to restore all files previously installed from WinME CABs, but later on found to be buggy one way or another.Just open O2.BAT with Notepad and scroll down till you find this line [and all lines below it except the RUNDLL32.EXE lines]: And yes, the DOS based tool LOCATE.COM scans *all* local fixed and removable drives for Win98SE setup CABs.If it finds them, all files listed there are extracted, copied over to C:\9S2M and then restored to original locations upon next reboot. In my experience most users have those CABs somewhere on their local drives. But you have a good idea, to also search for those files in older backups, just in case the 98SE CABs were not found on any of the local drives. I guess I could use the LOCATE.COM tool for this purpose, specifying 1 file at a time, and add GETVER.EXE version check. I'll think about it. Thanks. About your USB problems... Please try the older NUSB 2.2: http://rapidshare.de/files/1217842/nusb22e.exe.html and then the newer 2.3: http://www.mdgx.com/spx/NUSB23E.EXE and see if it makes any difference, and if it does, please let me know. Thanks. HTH
  6. Anonymous author of several 98/ME patches responds to some comments: Hope this helps.
  7. Thanks for noticing. When I ran FPSE2K from MS ftp site, the opening screen said: When I ran FPSE2K from MS WU site, I got this message: But after installation, both had the same version build for all files.I'll keep the WU link, because displays the correct version. Thanks for the links.
  8. We made it to Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_ME Scroll all the way to the bottom to "External links".
  9. In my experience quotes or no quotes don't matter if there are no spaces after the equal sign. But quotes do matter [crackers do matter = nod to Farscape] if there are any spaces. This is valid for all INF files. Hope this helps.
  10. That's why.......98SE is touchy with 9series crap, stick 7.1 and no 9I have been using WMP9 on Win98 SE with WMP9 XP + WMP10 enhancements for a pretty long time, and *never* had any problems. And I do mess with my system all the time. Please see my other post about WMP9: http://www.msfn.org/board/?s=&showtopi...st&p=550873 My only gripe with WMP9 is that it cannot play DVDs in 9x/ME. But that's what MPC is for [free GPL]: http://sourceforge.net/projects/guliverkli/ Hope this helps.
  11. Waywyrd: Please try the 8-22-2006 edition of 98SE2ME: http://www.mdgx.com/4 see if everything ok. And if you have any comments, please post them here: http://www.msfn.org/board/?showtopic=46349 Thanks.

  14. I have tested this tool a while back. But I'll try it again in the near future, I know they have newer versions out. Thanks.
  15. Great work. Keep it up. Added link here [scroll under "Windows 98/98 SE/ME Updates + Patches"]: http://www.mdgx.com/ Does it make sense to patch WinME kernel32.dll ? And I think it's a good idea to patch kernel32.dll 4.10.2225 . IMHO: When patching a system file that has already been patched previously, it's best to patch the newest build, which contains all previous patches. Patching the oldest file only takes care of the newest issue, but not any previous ones. Thanks for your time.
  16. winxpi: What I meant was... If possible, can you please modify the vercheck function and repackage the hotfix to include the older URLMON.DLL from the 1st hotfix [v1]? This way everybody will be able to install it, not only the people who never installed v1. Right now who installed v1, cannot install v2, therefore can't install newer urlmon.dll. If you have the time to do this, I'll post it at my site to replace older v1 hotfix. Thanks for your time.
  17. Then just do that instead with SHELL.DLL [found as SHELL.NEW on WinME setup CD inside WIN_19.CAB].A little more polite formula [hint ] would have been... "The actual file that causes this is SHELL.DLL [sHELL.NEW] from WinME setup CD. HTH" HTH
  18. Whenever you want to setup Win98/98SE/ME, just run: SETUP MSBATCH.INF /ID /IE /IM /IQ /IS /IW /NM You can add line above into a dedicated batch file, for convenience. Notice that SETUP.EXE file name depends on the Win9x OS edition [Full, Upgrade, Updates, OEM, MSDN etc]. It can also be OEMSETUP.EXE, DOSSETUP.EXE etc. DOSSETUP allows [depending on the 9x OS edition it is run from] to setup from native MS-DOS. Explanation of all SETUP switches [official + unofficial]: http://www.mdgx.com/last2.htm#SETUPSW Hope this helps.
  19. ahh, good point, RJARRRPCGP. the debate goes on whether or not RAM gets slower with age.Exactly my point.RAM does *not* slow down. The only degradation that can happen within RAM chips occurs when electrons migrate, and in such cases, the user will experience errors booting, loading the OS/apps etc. Thanks for the clarification.

I got the official W2K SP4 fix. Thanks again. BTW: The delivery failure is probably caused by Gmail [my email account] which doesn't allow to send EXE or ZIP file attachments. Such file extensions must be renamed to some unknown extension, like EXX, ZZZ etc.
  21. Can he take a look at the code of U912919 of v4.10.2003 of the gdi.exe and gdi32.dll files?nah, I dont like the idea of using 4.10.2227 under Win98 FE as it may break Win98 FE or cause BSOD errors. erpdude8:This is your answer: Hope this helps.
  22. 1. If you installed 98SE2ME option 3, then all common dialog boxes will change to WinME style [because of newer COMDLG32.DLL from WinME setup CD].To restore older Win98 SE file from setup CD, run this command [example]: EXTRACT/Y C:\TEMP D:\WIN98\WIN98_27.CAB /L COMDLG32.DLL Where D: is the CD/DVD drive letter, change if necessary to match yours. Then reboot to native MS-DOS [or from a boot floppy/CD/DVD] and copy it to %windir%\SYSTEM [example]: COPY/Y C:\TEMP\COMDLG32.DLL %winbootdir%\SYSTEM Reboot normal. Done. 2. If you installed 98SE2ME options 1 or 2: newer COMMDLG.DLL + COMMCTRL.DLL from WinME setup CD will be installed. These 2 files should not change common dialog boxes. But if you wish, you can restore older Win98 SE setup CD files into %windir%\system : COMMDLG.DLL + COMMCTRL.DLL found as: COMMDLG.NEW inside WIN98_51.CAB and KOMMCTRL.DLL inside PRECOPY1.CAB Extract them using a command line like this [example]: EXTRACT/Y D:\WIN98\WIN98_51.CAB /L C:\TEMP COMMDLG.NEW EXTRACT/Y D:\WIN98\PRECOPY1.CAB /L C:\TEMP KOMMCTRL.DLL Where D: is the CD/DVD drive letter, change if necessary to match yours. Then rename them: C: CD\TEMP REN COMMDLG.NEW COMMDLG.DLL REN KOMMCTRL.DLL COMMCTRL.DLL Then reboot to native MS-DOS [or from a boot floppy/CD/DVD] and copy them to %windir%\SYSTEM [example]: COPY/Y C:\TEMP\COMMDLG.DLL %winbootdir%\SYSTEM COPY/Y C:\TEMP\COMMCTRL.DLL %winbootdir%\SYSTEM Reboot normal. Done.
  23. PsycoUnc: Sorry about all your troubles. 1. I have changed the batch code from %windir%\NUL and %winbootdir%\NUL to %windir%\*.??? and %winbootdir%\*.??? . I'll also try to change all autoexec.bat pasting commands code in all my batch files to wininit.ini code. This way autoexec.bat won't be used anymore by 98SE2ME. 2. About your USB thumb drive: maybe it's the new [reduced] USBSTOR.INF installed in %windir%\INF which is also installed by Max-Decim's NUSB 2.3: http://www.mdgx.com/web.htm#9SU that causes your errors? Can you confirm that? If that's the case, I'll remove USBSTOR.INF from 98SE2ME. 3. About backups: 98SE2ME options 1 + 2 now make backups of individual system files only [take very little disk space] into: %windir%\WIN98SE.9ME = original folder name is %windir% %windir%\SYSTEM.9ME = original folder name is %windir%\SYSTEM %windir%\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS.9ME = original folder name is %windir%\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS If you restore individual files 1 by 1 from there [reboot after restoring each file], you may be able to find the culprit. Thanks a lot for your feedback. P.S.: I'll post a new 98SE2ME build 8-22-2006 sometime tomorrow.
  24. Please note that GDI*.* files installed by 98SE2ME are not 4.10.2227 [which are 98SE files] but 4.90.3003 [which are WinME files].So you probably mean that GDI*.* 4.90.3003 are the culprit for your power management problems? If that's the case, I will post a new build of 98SE2ME on 8-21-2006 which installs older GDI*.* 4.90.3002 files. Hope that will fix your problem. As the comparison TXT file shows [thank you the_gui], the only files that could make a difference for power management are the GDI*.* files. All others have nothing to do with power management, as far as I can tell. USER*.* files also have something to do with power mangement, but those WinME files are the same since I posted the 1st 98SE2ME build, and nobody reported any issues so far. Thanks for your feedback.
