Undelete Plus for Windows 98FE/98SE/ME
MDGx replied to erpdude8's topic in Windows 9x Member Projects
FreeDOS doesn't have its own NTFS driver per se, but they recommend NTFS4DOS: http://wiki.fdos.org/DOS/Ntfs4dos NTFS4DOS is included with FreeDOS 1.0 distro: http://www.ibiblio.org/pub/micro/pc-stuff/.../pkgs/ntfsx.zip Documentation [empty ?]: http://www.ibiblio.org/pub/micro/pc-stuff/.../pkgs/ntfsx.lsm Source: http://www.ibiblio.org/pub/micro/pc-stuff/.../pkgs/ntfss.zip HTH -
Have you tried U891711 within the past few days?I've updated it a few days ago [118 KB]: http://www.mdgx.com/files/U891711.EXE Now the files install in %windir%\SYSTEM\U891711 instead of %windir%\SYSTEM\KB891711 . And the uninstall function works properly now. BTW: The anonymous author specifies in the ReadMe file [see NOTE #4]: http://www.mdgx.com/files/U891711.TXT that: Trying to "kill" that process, *will* lockup Windows.I'll relate your thoughts about the need for this fix to the anonymous author. IMHO: If you surf the internet, you would be better off if you have it installed. Of course, this is only a matter of opinion. Same as LLXX, I don't use it either. I only test it to make sure it works every time it is updated. And if the anonymous author likes to be called by a nickname here at MSFN, I'm sure he'll let us know. HTH

RUNHELP:Thanks for testing, I'll add WinME to the supported OSes. Q925051: the_guy just sent me a few new patches, which include Q925051. I'll review + upload them soon. SP2: I think you are a very good person to take up this task. Please let us know if you decide to do it. We're here to help. Best wishes. -
Firefox 1.5.0.7 [and all older 1.5.0.x builds I've tried] has slow JavaScript loading problems on some servers [including MSFN sometimes], depending on traffic, server load etc. That's why the arrows/page up/page down keys do not work in such cases [but the mouse pointer does], until all scripts are completely loaded. The good news: It seems that Firefox 1.5.0.8 fixed this bug. I haven't noticed script slow downs yet with this build. Correction: Firefox 1.5.0.8 does not fix the slow down bug. Still present on some web sites, especiallty when loading a new browser instance. IMO: I don't like the interface changes in Firefox 2.0. ;( And besides, most of my extensions do not work with 2.0, they need to be updated for the 2.x builds. HTH

Hu$tle: Please install new 98SE2ME: http://www.mdgx.com/4 The open hand icon overlay for shared files/folders/drives is now fixed. This was the BUG: The desktop icons overlay registry fix [which has been fixed by deleting the SHELL32.DLL value]: But now it is restored to original [added back the SHELL32.DLL value]: Replace C:\\WINDOWS with your actual Windows 98 SE path if different.HTH -
No idea why you get an "Insufficient Memory" error.I am using the GDI*.* files installed by unofficial Q198547 [see below] since the day they were released, and never had any errors. When you said KB918547 did you mean unofficial Q918547 [which update the GDI*.* files]: http://www.mdgx.com/files/Q918547.EXE ReadMe: http://www.mdgx.com/files/918547.TXT or did you mean U918547: http://www.mdgx.com/files/U918547.EXE ReadMe: http://www.mdgx.com/files/U918547.TXT which is now *obsolete* and should be replaced with Q918547 [GDI*.*] above?

Done. Many thanks for your hard work. Your link added here: http://www.msfn.org/board/?showtopic=46349 Best wishes. _________________________________________ Thanks for your feedback.Sharing folders this way requires the "File and Print Sharing..." option enabled from Control Panel -> Network. I have never enabled this on any of my M$ OSes, because I don't need to, and most importantly, because it is a well-known security risk. But I'll try it in the near future, and I'll fix the hand icon issue if necessary. HTH -

erpdud8: Please let me know if RUNHELP works ok with factory default WinME, so I can add ME to the supported OSes once again. BTW: Do this for fun: 1. Install the most recent version of RUNHELP.EXE [62 KB]: http://www.mdgx.com/files/RUNHELP.EXE 2. Use Firefox or Mozilla or Netscape or Opera [any browser except MS IE or MS IS skins] to run HTMLHELP.HTM . See what it says. Then disable Javascript and/or ActiveX in MS IE from Internet Properties. Then run HTMLHELP.HTM again using MS IE this time. See what it says. 3. If you care to see the source code, open HTMLHELP.HTM in Notepad. Enjoy. -
I have created a Time Zone update [iexpress installer] for Windows 95/98/ME [all editions] based on Petr's REG + INF files:http://www.mdgx.com/add.htm#TZU * Unofficial Windows 95/98/ME 2007 U.S.A. UPDATED · 11-23-2006 Updates: - updated IE922760.EXE critical IE 6.0 SP1 fix = fixed INF code. - added 98/98 SP1/98 SE ZIPFLDR.DLL fix = Q329048. So these files should be drop in the KB917344 folder and be repackage right?I need to do some testing first, to make sure they work ok.These files were meant for NTx OSes which may have different functions/APIs. Just because they regsvr32 ok, that doesn't mean they work 100% with 9x OSes. HTH -

Good idea.Unfortunately I don't have access to a GeForce 7xxx or 8xxx series [yet], so I can't test this. But if any1 is able + willing to do this, these are the lines that need to be added to NVAGP.INF under respective sections [listed below between square brackets]: This way 81.98 or even older builds [81.85, 77.72 or even 71.84] can be tested with these newer controllers under 98SE or ME.The Forceware driver installer executable: http://download.nvidia.com/Windows/81.98/8...n9x_english.exe http://download.nvidia.com/Windows/81.85/8...n9x_english.exe http://download.nvidia.com/Windows/77.72/7...n9x_english.exe http://download.nvidia.com/Windows/71.84/7...n9x_english.exe can be opened + files inside extracted with WinZip 9/10/11 or PowerArchiver [i have not tried CABVIEW.DLL thou]: http://www.mdgx.com/toy.htm#ZIP Then edit NVAGP.INF [or whatever the INF file name is] with Notepad and add lines above under respective sections. Save the file and then run SETUP.EXE from within the same directory. The new vid cards should be picked up [theoretically] during install. Good luck. Please let us know if this works [or not]. Thanks. HTH

I guess I could try to update the 98SE SP, but it could be a while till I post a new build, my spare time is limited. IMO, I think erpdude8 is a better candidate for the SP [if he has the time, of course]. He has updated/maintained quite a few service packs lately. And if he decides to take this up, I'll post the packs as soon as he sends me email + 1 link.

UMBPCI.SYS v3.70/FastVid v1.10 PCI/AGP
MDGx replied to PROBLEMCHYLD's topic in Windows 9x Member Projects
To make UMBPCI work in your config.sys, these are the lines you need [example, change directories/drives if necessary to match yours]: http://www.mdgx.com/umb.htm#HIR Place these lines in this exact order, at the top of your config.sys: DOS=HIGH,UMB,AUTO DEVICE=C:\UMBPCI\UMBPCI.SYS DEVICE=C:\UMBPCI\HIRAM.EXE DEVICE=C:\WINDOWS\HIMEM.SYS /NUMHANDLES=120 /TESTMEM:OFF /Q This way UMBPCI loads in upper memory, and does not occupy any memory after loading. Remark [; ] all other memory manager lines [including EMM386] in your config.sys. Reboot. If this doesn't work, add these 3 lines: HIRAM.EXE HIMEM.SYS UMBPCI.SYS to your IOS.INI file under the [safeList] section, located in %windir% [edit it with Notepad]. Then reboot. This should work, *if* your mobo chipset is compatible with UMBPCI: http://www.mdgx.com/umb.htm#REQ You can also load HIMEM.SYS in upper memory [uMA] by changing its line to read: DEVICEHIGH=C:\WINDOWS\HIMEM.SYS /NUMHANDLES=120 /TESTMEM:OFF /Q Please note that UMBPCI + HIRAM canNOT load in UMA with DEVICEHIGH . P.S.: Do not allow SMARTDRV [which probably loads from your autoexec.bat or config.sys] to cache floppy drives! Floppy drives are letters A and/or B . Example of smartdrv line in autoexec.bat: LOADHIGH=C:\WINDOWS\SMARTDRV.EXE A- B- C+ 12288 16 /N /Q Or [use 1 or the other, not both] example of smartdrv line in config.sys: INSTALLHIGH=C:\WINDOWS\SMARTDRV.EXE 12288 16 A- B- C+ /N /Q This is if you have only C as HD drive/partition. If you have more than 1 HD, add more letters, like D+ . If you want CD/DVD access in native MS-DOS, you must load a CD redirector [like QCDROM.SYS, VIDE-CDD.SYS, XCDROM.SYS or ATAPICDD.SYS] in config.sys: http://www.mdgx.com/newtip1.htm#CDROM4 *and* a CDEX extensions driver [like MSCDEX, NWCDEX or SHCDX33C] in config.sys or autoexec.bat: http://www.mdgx.com/drv.htm#CDR Then add your CD/DVD drive letter(s) to the smartdrv line, like D , E , etc. CD/DVD drives can only be cached as read-only, they are not writable, therefore do not place a plus sign after their drive letter(s). Make sure your smartdrv line appears in config.sys or autoexec.bat *after* the CDEX extensions driver line [see above]. Otherwise smartdrv won't cache your CD/DVD drive(s). HTH -

This is actually the old SavePart [save Partition] renamed to Partition Saving [very cool tool, BTW].Please note that the actual server is located at: http://damien.guibouret.free.fr/ - English [frames]: http://damien.guibouret.free.fr/en/index_frame.html - English [no frames]: http://damien.guibouret.free.fr/en/index.html - French [frames]: http://damien.guibouret.free.fr/fr/index_frame.html - French [no frames]: http://damien.guibouret.free.fr/fr/index.html partition-saving.com is only a fake redirector, not a real domain name, resolves to damien.guibouret.free.fr . What suitable installer to choose for the SPs?
MDGx replied to Petr's topic in Windows 9x Member Projects
I like Orca as MSI editor, and it's free from M$. This is how to get it and install it on 9x OSes: http://www.msfn.org/board/?s=&showtopi...st&p=568281 And Orca doesn't need .NET installed. To extract files from MSI/MSP installers, I like the msix.exe command line tool [free]: http://blogs.msdn.com/heaths/archive/2006/04/07/571138.aspx File: http://hstewart.members.winisp.net/downloads/msix.zip IMHO: To build an installer, we don't need the MSI system, it's too complicated and cumbersome, requires a lengthy learning curve [not worth the time], and the worst is that it clutters the HD with tons of useless files + folders, and also writes a huge amount of registry values/keys [unnecessary bloat]. Why? Don't ask me, ask InstallShield, who created it. Please note that M$ didn't create the MSI installer, they only licensed it from InstallShield. I'm actually surprised they didn't buy them out instead. HTH -
UMBPCI.SYS v3.70/FastVid v1.10 PCI/AGP
MDGx replied to PROBLEMCHYLD's topic in Windows 9x Member Projects
Delete or remark [comment out = precede it with a ; ] its line from your config.sys. Then reboot.
