  1. No disadvantages of either. However Nircmdc.exe can do some pretty neat things, such as creating custom shortcuts and such which will be usefull in unattended installations. Also the CDROM open command so you can take out your unattended CD when its finished
  2. Yes, I was doing that before but it will not copy untill the Import settings wizzard has been run. Tested by uninstalling, deleting the thunderbird appdata folder and then silently installing followed by extracting the profile. Which doesnt work unless I run TB for 1st time, cancel the import wizzard then extract profile again using a RAR SFX file.
  3. I would look at a 12ms model. Those using the 8ms screens cause serious downgrade on viewing angles although they are still apparently 160 degress. Viewsonic VP191 is considered as one of the best 19" LCD's on the market at the moment.
  4. Ok, so if anybody cant help with this... Is there any other way to silently install thunderbird AND get my profile to work automatically? Serach brings up a way but doesnt seem to be any profile backup success...
  5. Yeah it will still overclock mate hopefully. Its just luck of draw.
  6. Hi mate, I would go with the LE. Ive been a customer of OcUK for a long time, and I recomend signing up to there forums. Good info on there The 6800 series @ OcUK has just got cheaper lately as the 6800 series is virtually EOL and not being manufactured any more. The reason I would go for the LE is it will be faster than the other two due to having a 256bit mem bus and the X700 only having a 128 one which will hamper performance. The leadtek are apparently the best at unlocking (I think the Aopens were too) although unfortunatly I think the success rate isnt as good as it has been. Which is kind of weird, lately the overclocking and unlocking potential of the 6800 cards has gone down abit it seems (from a general feeling I have got).
  7. Whats the drivers for them like? I didnt get on with the Audigy drivers.... and thanks for the info by the way
  8. Mobile processors run on lower voltages and are multi-unlocked upwards aswell as downwards Most normal AthlonXP chips are very poor clockers which is why people use the mobiles. Only the mobiles and the recent FX64 processors are unlocked (as the FX is an enthusiast chip). Those OCZ Plat Rev2's are very nice you can squeeze 250mhz out of em without having to up the voltage too much or loosing mem timmings too much. However they are TCCD chips which started being used way after the days of AthlonXP systems which were usually being run with BH5 (which can do crazy FSB's with very tight timings yet require 3.2volts or more). Yet the NF7 series of motherboards and the DFI LP which are the best 2 Socket A motherboards overclocking wise are still supported by the overclocking community and there is no doubt bios' out there which have been tweaked for TCCD optimisation. big poppa pump, do you recomend the X-Mystique over the Audigy2 sound cards? My Audigy2 ZS is currently on loan to a mate with broken onboard sound but he is getting a new rig v soon and wondered if It would be worth me giving/selling the card to him for cheap and picking up a X-Mystique?
  9. put it in the $OEM$/$$/System32 folder of your Unattended CD and just call it as Achdine has, because any file in the Windows/System32 folder can be called on its own like that. Then, you can delete it using your cleanup command file if you have one.. DEL /F "%WINDIR%\System32\Nircmdc.exe" or without any extra program just use: PING 127.0.0.1 -n 30>NUL to wait 30 seconds
  10. Theres about 3 different ways for firefox installation already: 1) Silent of the Foxes - Doesnt work for me as it doesnt copy my whole profile over :s 2) Simonsays method - The best way Ive personally found 3) Your way which is the same as Simonsays technically but Simonsays wrote a nifty little cmd file for firefox and it can reinstate your old profile which will backup all your extensions/themes/plugins all at once. As for thunderbird, Ive tried all day to get it to use my old profile - it should be the same as firefox, but the problem is... the profile fr thunderbird will not copy to the application data folder untill the import wizzard that you get when you first launch thunderbird has been run.... im surrently trying to find a way around this but to no avail.
  11. Yes, I know all that Ive had Unattended CDs for absolutly ages and Ive done it manually and also manually added Oemtxt drivers for my nforce 2 board ages ago... Yes, if you own a nforce4 board then you have no problem as nVidia (the selfish as****** that they are) still support that chipset, but the latest WHQL drivers for nforce3 are 5.10 which are ancient and the ethernet driver causes bf2 connection problem. There are others but these dont always have support for everything... Thats why I NEED (I wouldnt want to else) mix the driver package. The thing which is worrying me is that if you uninstall all the drivers (I know you dont have to) then you get far fewer enteries in Device manager than the amount of drivers which come with the actuall installer. Im concerned that Pnpdriverspath is just an automated device manager (as both look for .infs within the directories you specify) so that all the drivers wont get installed if I do it this way. Thanks for your reply, and very nice system you got there except you really need to get a 7800 GTX . Transparancy AA, SM3.0 and WFG 1.0 support. Nice case too, Lian-li and the old CM cases are the best. Is that the ASUS board with the northbridge heatpipe?
  12. Yeah I know that, the program installs fine ... just the profile copying isnt happening because of the settings import wizzard.
  13. Hi all, I havent been around on MSFN lately but Ive been a big fan of Simonsays Firefox silent install quide and I know that thunderbird uses the same installer. So I decided to edit the setup.cmd file that simonsays made for the firefox installer for the firefox setup and also use it to backup my profile. So, I extracted the installer, and edited the config.ini to silent and other options I did/did not want installing. Then created a subdirectory called setup and included the content of the "%appdata%\thunderbird" folder into the "\Setup\Profile" folder for the installer. I edited the command file so it installed for firefox: @echo off REM If CMDOW is located on System32, you can use the next line to hide the entire commandline window cmdow @ /HID REM Firefox Setup "%SYSTEMDRIVE%\Thunderbird\setup.exe" -ms SET KEY=HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Clients\Mail\Mozilla Thunderbird REG ADD HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Clients\mail /ve /t REG_SZ /D "Mozilla Thunderbird" REG ADD HKEY_USERS\.Default\Software\Clients\mail /ve /t REG_SZ /D "Mozilla Thunderbird" REG ADD "%KEY%" /ve /t REG_SZ /D "Mozilla Thunderbird" /f REG ADD "%KEY%" /v "DLLPath" /t REG_SZ /D "%PROGRAMFILES%\Mozilla Thunderbird\mozMapi32.dll" /f REG ADD "%KEY%\DefaultIcon" /ve /t REG_SZ /D "%PROGRAMFILES%\Mozilla Thunderbird\thunderbird.exe,0" /f REG ADD "%KEY%\shell\open\command" /ve /t REG_SZ /D "%PROGRAMFILES%\Mozilla Thunderbird\thunderbird.exe -mail" /f REG ADD "%KEY%\shell\properties" /ve /t REG_SZ /D "Thunderbird &Options" /f REG ADD "%KEY%\shell\properties\command" /ve /t REG_SZ /D "%PROGRAMFILES%\Mozilla Thunderbird\thunderbird.exe -options" /f REG ADD "%KEY%\protocols\mailto" /ve /t REG_SZ /D "URL:MailTo Protocol" /f REG ADD "%KEY%\protocols\mailto" /v "URL Protocol" /t REG_SZ /D "" /f REG ADD "%KEY%\protocols\mailto\DefaultIcon" /ve /t REG_SZ /D "%PROGRAMFILES%\Mozilla Thunderbird\thunderbird.exe,0" /f REG ADD "%KEY%\protocols\mailto\shell\open\command" /ve /t REG_SZ /D "%PROGRAMFILES%\Mozilla Thunderbird\thunderbird.exe -compose" /f REM Custom Profile IF EXIST "%APPDATA%\Thunderbird" RD "%APPDATA%\Thunderbird" MD "%APPDATA%\Thunderbird" XCOPY "%SYSTEMDRIVE%\Thunderbird\Setup\Profile" "%APPDATA%\Thunderbird" /Y /E /Q /H /R EXIT The registry settings I found whilst seaching on here and they seem to work fine, and so does the program install fine. The only problem is the profile doesnt get copied over, and I think I know why... When you first open Thunderbird, it asks to import data like firefox and then once you have chose to either import or not. Then the application data folder is created! Not before.... So then re-running the last part i.e: IF EXIST "%APPDATA%\Thunderbird" RD "%APPDATA%\Thunderbird" MD "%APPDATA%\Thunderbird" XCOPY "%SYSTEMDRIVE%\Thunderbird\Setup\Profile" "%APPDATA%\Thunderbird" /Y /E /Q /H /R then it will copy! So how do I get around this so I dont have to do anything manually? Many thanks.
  14. Hi all, Please excuse me for this long winded post - and at first it may seem to have nothing to do with unattended install but it does in the end. My current motherboard is a DFI LP 250GB UT which uses the nforce3 250GB chipset, and for ages I have been using the 5.10 drivers but unfortunatly these seem to give me random connection problems with BF2. So I hunted on guru3d for some more up to date drivers and chose the 6.37 and decided to use a mixture of the 5.10s with the ethernet and gart driver from the 6.37's. Unfortunatly the 6.37s are not compatable with the ethernet controller and only the nvidia net bus emerator (sp?). So I decided to carry on trying different mixtures by extracting the .exe's and using device manager but unfortunatly if I found a working ethernet driver then I would get serious performance issues which was confirmed by dropping a 1/3rd of my 3DMark 05 points. So my 1st question is: If you uninstall all your nforce drivers and then look in device manager - you only see 3 unknown devices: 1) Other PCI device (this is the ethernet controller/ bus emerator) 2) Audio 3) SM Bus Now in the nforce installer, there are more drivers which are not shown in the device manager. Such as Mem Controller, IDE and GART. So does the nforce installer somehow install these differently/forcefully as they are not located in device manager? This leads to my second question: So when using the PnP driver path in Winnt.sif will windows deffinatly install all the infs that it comes accross? As I presume that this is kind of an automated device manager kind of thing as you are locating the infs like you would with device manager? Just I dont wanna use that method if im going to mess up my driver installs. Ive currently found that using the nforce 5.10 installer and NOT selecting ethernet - and then using device manager to install the ethernet driver from the 6.xx drivers actually works. Any help much appreciated!
  15. Camtasia STudio from http://www.techsmith.com/ was amazing when I tried it. Done some good photoshop tutorial videos with it.
  16. yeah if you could please, I can edit the EXE cant I and add my own reg tweaks?
  17. When nvidia release a new GPU there is a reference design which some companies choose to follow. It basically means it is nearest to nvidias PCB design and includes nvidias reference heatsink (which is noisy on the 6800GT) However, appart from it being the reference heatsink, nothing else should be offputting about reference designs as afterall - they are all 6800GT's with 16 pipes 350core and 1000mhz on the memory. I base my purchase on: Games package? Does it have on? After market support? Are they good and do they do an extended warranty like BFG do with the 7800GTX's Heatsink design? Is it better? My Aopen 6800GT was reference design as it was a good card, did 430 on the core on stock cooling. You can always replace the heatsink with the Zalman VF-700cu - that is the best 3rd party GPU sink out there at the moment.
  18. Yeah worked brilliant thanks mate. Cheers for all your help. Any advances on making this unattended?
  19. nah I could have afforded it but dont really see the point 1280*1024 @ 8ms response time with 4* line AA makes gaming look perfect
  20. I want to remove all traces from the desktop context menu, I can rotate by right clciking the task tray icon. I hate having clutered context menus. shame there is no freeware alternative . Ive googled but found none.
  21. Latest like you, the 7.68 and yeah i rebooted :/
  22. I think because I own an ATi card, I dont actually get the options in the advanced display options
  23. Woot! Nice one mate thankgod I know how to use reshacker @Chili Thanks for the info but it doesnt seem to do anything and trying to rotate my screen using the ATi drivers produces some error which is weird as the X800XTPE is hardly old Thanks for help both!
  24. Thats weird, a hell of alot of people with 6800GT over @ OcUK forums have XFX and they clock very well. The only problems I can remember with one of the partners were the bios needed flashing as it shipped with the wrong one (it could have been XFX) but this was yonks ago when they were first released. What ever you do, dont touch Galaxy, they had to release a second revision with a copper backbone for the card, so many problems with them. Ild personally go for a leadtek though
  25. Hi all, As from today I had the great pleasure of recieving a viewsonic VP171s and it has some software which enables me to turn the screen 90 degress to a portrait view. Unfortunatly the software also does this to my context menu: A mohassive advert! , I dont mind the controls as much after various downloads of freeware context menu editing apps - I still cant find where this one is! Please help
