  1. Nothing here since 11th May Sample: 2009 (KB3153731)11. mai 2016Windows Update Windows XP EmbeddedSecurity Update for WES09 and POSReady 2009 (KB3153171) Windows XPWindows Malicious Software Removal Tool - May 2016 (KB890830)
  2. All right, I have another machine with Sp4 and its update status is good up to and including today (May 30). The registry looks similar on both machines. But this one doesn't want to upgrade even when asked to. Its update history is: April 27, 2 updates. April 29, 1 update. May 11, 7 updates.
  3. I don't have those keys but PosReady is there.
  4. Seems I am unable to navigate the XP SP4 thread so I try posting here instead. Checking my XP-Sp4 update status, I don't see any updates since april 27. I believe that was a bunch of updates made immediately after I installed the XP-SP4. I power off my computer every night, should I keep it online 24/7 to make sure updates may be installed, or are there just no new updates available yet?
  5. I only run Office 2000, I have the 2003 as well but never uver use it. Have yet to see any reason to change that.
  6. I am happy I still can walk a little. Serisouly, What is .net.framework good for? I only have v2.0, v2.0 Sp2, and v3.0 Sp2 "KB3142029 does ot apply, or is blocked by another condtition on your computer." "The .NET Framework is Microsoft's comprehensive and consistent programming model for building applications that have visually stunning user experiences, ."
  7. Glad to learn that, think maybe all my worries are gone now...
  8. IE v8 it is. Works acceptably. SP4 16 updates immediately, nothing more for 24 hrs since then. Normal?
  9. Seems I have an IE problem. Trying to view updates, I am told to use higher than IE5 . Trying to install IE7 I am told I already have 7 or higher. Reinstalled IE8. Stlll no good. Did something change thngs further down the road? Don't know how to open IE so I am unable to find the Tools dropdown box. Are there any settings I have to make? I go from Start meny to Internet -> Internet properties -> IE Settings. What am I doing wrong. I am flabbergasted, immediatly after SP4 was installed, updates and viewing updates worked just fine but now I can't see anything of that. Maybe I should reinstall everything from scratch once more? Could any of the malvare/virus protection installed be the cause of the problem?
  10. But I don't like this: Right after the installation was up and conncted to Internet, it received some updates and I could find and read the names. But since then, I am no longer able to review updates. I go to Control Panel - Security Center - Check for latest updates, but although the mouse pointer indicate the Check link open, nothing happens. Can any Anti-this-or-that software be the cause, or what?
  11. Just want to spread the good news. Started a new session his morning, Wiped SSD disk, new start with XPSp3, AMD/ASUS chipset etc., SP4, Firefox, NoScript, Ad-Aware, ZoneAlarm (paid) SuperAntiSpyware (free), SwiftSearch and that's about all for now. Future looking bright. May be some time before you hear from me again! (If ever.) Guess I should backup to a hard drive, disconnect hard drives and I'd be safe. Even a massive attack wouldn't hurt much, it wouldnt take me long to get it all back up again.
  12. Indeed, I always try to comply but I may have slipped up. Anyway, everything is fine now.
  13. Removed and reinstalled same driver, problem gone!
  14. Yes, I reinstalled the entire ASUS motherboard support CD sans Norton...
  15. I have an SP4 installlation that I am using now, latest automatic update was April 19th. Guess that is ok, I'll just keep using it and trust that I won't have to do anything about it. Only thing I mislike is the MOM message but I'll have to learn to live with that. Tried reinstalling all motherboard files but that didn't change anything.
  16. I am not always able to understand all that is being said by you guys here. I realize that you are accustomed to your shoptalk and I often feel like lost in the woods. I think SP4 may be good for me, I just have to clean out the mess that my computer(s) have become, with truckloads of junk collected over the years. When I've saved what little that still may be of some value I'll make a new installation. I hope that will make life a little better for me. I have too many hard disks, too many partitions and too much storage space. With duplicates, triplicates and quadruplicates of files just to be safe, a thorough purge is required. 73 and CUL
  17. Is Large Fonts something I find in the regular Windows XP setup facilities? I am using 1280x800 to get a comfortable text size, could I obtain that with 1920x1080?
  18. That makes sense. I am uncertain about what the advantages of SP4 actually are besides of course the PosReady updates. Aside of that, I am not aware of what I get from SP4 that I don't already have with SP3. Anwyay, I will try the PosReady thing and see how it works out for me. After installing Malwarebytes, ZoneAlarm and SwiftSearch, things are looking somewhat brighter.
  19. Zone Alarm msg: File name: A0005101.dll Virus name: not-a-virus Type Virus Risk Medium Treatment Path G:\System Volume Information\_restore{xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx}\RP16\A0005101.dll x's represent a hex number. Similar messages are coming up all the time - with a new number so I think there must be a generator hidden somewhere. The system is XPSp3 + SP4. I see SP4 in the list of programs available for removal, but it doesn't identify as the 2014 version. Teh Remove button doesn't show so SP4 can't be removed, I'll have to reinstall XP from scratch. Maybe the problem is that the installation failed in some way.
  20. Should in not be possible to uninstall XP4? It is not possible here, and I'd like to se if a removal might rid me of the message "Could not load file or assembly ’MOM.Implementation, Version=2.0.3693.39770, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=90ba9c70f846762e or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified." each time the system is booted. It may be harmless, but I don't like it! I don't know if SP4 is the culprit but I've never seen that msg before.
  21. Same again. System Properties shows 2002 SP3. But this time SP4 appears under Installed programs. Plus msg "failed to install catalog files". I had hoped that this test installation might be promoted to my new #1 but seems I'll have to make another attempt.
  22. System Properties says Version 2002 Service Pack 3 Update log is too large for attaching. Guess I'll have to try installing again.
  23. I tried creating a new topic but somehow it failed. So I make it a reply instead. I wanted to ask why I can't find anything indicating that SP 4 is installed. But this last installation I did yesterday has a Windows folder of 3.85GB, and is doing updates that I wouldn't expect from a plain SP3 installation. Do I have an AMD problem, what should I do?
  24. My question may seem superfluous, but the only clue I find that SP4 may be installed is the size of the Windows folder, 3.86GB. And updates have been made as late as today (I installed yesterday). But looking for installed programs from control panel or system details, I find nothing. I am puzzled.
  25. I did quite a lot of purging of excessive amounts from all my hard drives yesterday and now I get the msg Could not find file or one its dependencies assembly MOM.Implementation... when the system (XPSp4) is booted. Searching, I find that C:\Windows\assembly\GAC_MSIL\MOM.Implementation is listed with Size 360, Size on disk 0 but C:\Windows\assembly\temp\NU17ELRY4B\MOM.Implementation is listed with Size 106.496, Size on Disk 106.496 I also find the same installation on several other disks but with the correct size of the file. Attempts at copying a new file to the C-drive have been unsuccessful, but maybe i should try some more - or is the missing file not a problem?
