  1. I just used the latest one made by blackwingcat. Works fine.
  2. Any chance of getting GTA V running on XP x64 edition with this? According to Dependency Walker, GTA5.exe needs kernel32 WerSetFlags and GetSystemDefaultLocaleName GTAVLauncher.exe and PlayGTAV.exe need kernel32 QueryFullProcessImageNameW , GetTickCount64 and GetUserDefaultLocaleName and shell32 SHGetKnownFolderPath Some DLL files such as IESHIMS.DLL and WER.DLL are also needed.
  3. No, nVidia still makes GeForce cards. ASUS is just a (very vocal) nVidia partner, which may be the reason you made such an assumption.

    x86 or x64

I haven't had any issues with Windows 7 x64 vs the x86 version, but i do know that the former has better support for newer and more powerful hardware, so that's what I use.
  5. You could put in a lower power CPU along with an SSD into that PC, which should result in lower power draw. I say its worth a try.
  6. Nope, the one you put up for download recently on RyanVM.
  7. Dibya, attempting to slipstream your addon in with Windows XP SP4 causes this BSoD This was done in VMware workstation 12. Any solution?
  8. Problem when slipstreamed with Dibya's Windows XP 4GB RAM limit breaker. In VMware, install seems to go fine, then come across a peculiar BSoD I really want to slipstream his addon as it cannot be installed after setup. Any way to fix this?
  9. Idles at around 40c. Does run a bit warmer than on newer versions of Windows, but not drastically.
  10. W2k on ASUS M5A99FX PRO R2.0 / AMD FX-8320 Runs great (needs extended kernel/core for USB3.0 and GPU drivers) Disabled devices: nVidia HD Audio (didn't install that because last time it interfered with my realtek HD) High precision event timer (no driver) (can be disabled in bios if you're only gonna use 2000) My xbox 360 controller (looking for driver)
  11. Well I tried doing the same with Windows 2000 and it failed too. So it seems the AC'97 implementation is non-existent. The machine works great under windows 2000 with all devices supported, but with 98 its a bit of a struggle. To get audio within 2000, i re-enabled HD audio and that works fine.
  12. Interesting question for you all. I have installed Windows 98 on a ZEB-945 motherboard. In order to get SATA working, I used Compatible mode and that's fine. Now, there's an option to switch to AC'97 mode. I turned that on, and tried drivers upon drivers, but non of them work. Any solution? Additionally, I want to know how to install the DOS Ndis2 drivers for the Realtek Ethernet on this board.
  13. Don't know anyone who uses nero anymore, I recommend ImgBurn instead. Aside from paint.net, you can use GIMP. I use it and its pretty good.
  14. Hmm... I tried the same and i can't get media info either. I assume its a limitation imposed by the server 2003 platform the OS is based on. I use winamp which shows the info, so it has never been a big deal for me. I'm not too sure how to fix this, but the OS simply has loads of advantages over these small disadvantages, which is why I'm pretty reluctant to go back to 32 bit. XP 64 bit is considerably better at games and gaming overall, which is what I do a lot of. It also runs Steam better, no choppiness.
  15. Let me go into detail. First off: No power saving feature would hope to work. I can live with that. Secondly: DirectX for some reason would stop working after a while. The clipboard stops working properly, and the comon tasks bar becomes black. And if it none of those happen, then i still have an issue when running 2 VMs simultaneously, VMware tends to hang and sometimes I need to force reboot. With XP x64, these bugs are simply nonexistent. If you can tell me the workaround to every x86 bug i've explained here and show me why i should leave x64, I'll be glad to do so. Dibya and I think noric use Intel based systems, which could be a reason why the performance drag isn't as much with them and why PAE seems to work better there.
  16. Thanks, I'll test it out. I've switched to XP x64 edition on my main PC because x86 was under-performing for my needs. But I do have another PC with XP x86, and of course VMs, so I'll be sure to run tests there. Its kind of disappointing honestly, I was hoping that it would work properly here, but various bugs creep up.
  17. Well i just switched to x64 XP, and see a massive performance improvement. IDK, PAE must just not work well on my system. There were some stutters when multitasking, these are nonexistent in x64 XP. I guess I will have to sacrifice a small bit of compatibility for better performance. So far I've not run into any absymal issues with x64 XP, however. Thanks for showing me those tricks, the thing is that none of them fix the problem. Windows XP x86, atleast for me, seems to hit a mysterious wall when RAM is being consumed. It could be the address space. Plus there are quite a few graphical bugs that don't exist in 64 bit XP. I'd like to have a config identical to yours, but right now I'm stick with this platform so I'm dealing with it.
  18. Well it's installed and running, so far nothing that has been hampering me. I'll update more soon.
  19. For some reason, despite XP accessing all 16gb, it still seems to act like its running out of memory when only 3GB is being used. I see all sorts of tell-tale signs of the OS running out of RAM, however they could also be GPU-issues (which would also correlate to PAE). I'm going to try Windows XP x64 edition and see how that goes, I know we all like the 32 bit version, but it seems that there are limits that cause issues when doing this.
  20. Despite my use of Windows XP x86 on the PC below, I happen to run into RAM usage issues even with PAE enabled. It seems in most scenarios, XP will act like its run out of memory and some functions stop working. 64 bit has also proven to provide better performance over 32 bit. So the following reasons are why I will once again, try Windows XP x64 edition. This is basically a log of how usable the OS will be with my software and whatnot. I have done some VM testing. Malwarebytes Premium works without the website scanner. Malwarebytes Anti Exploit works properly, which is good as it helps for security when using "unsupported" OSes. Microsoft's own Security Essentials works and gets the latest definitions. (surprising, isn't it?) I can hope it all goes well.

    XP and malware.

Security setup here: Windows XP SP3 with all XP updates till Apr. 2014 POSReady 2009 hack for updates till 2019 Bitdefender Free Antivirus Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Malwarebytes Anti-Exploit PeerBlock And yes it is running on the specs below, on the SSD too
  22. I think this discussion is a bit hotter than it should be lol. Here I am happily chilling with Windows XP. I don't have issues with 7 either, usually I just remove those updates that try to force win10 on.
  23. @Dibya, Good work. I wish to see this patch myself. I currently run Windows XP on my rig listed below. It's been working beautifully, and I hope to try some more XP breakthroughs on it. Can you make a second thread about the DX11 thing? That alone is interesting.
  24. Yes, that fixed it. I added all the 2003 drivers that Dibya has in his 7z package to both driver.cab and sp3.cab Now the server 2003 drivers load instead of the XP ones.
  25. UPDATE: Modifying driver.cab did it. All server 2003 drivers up and running on XP. System is stable.
